How do you know w1 chip really is advanced? There may be third party products, but none will be "better". The W1 chip is truly an advance. These are just things that most OEMs would simply ignore; but Apple will not release until they are fixed.

Take a look at the W1 specs. It is BT5 (the Draft Spec, which is pretty much complete). That's one of the things that Apple is not saying. And since it is re-flashable in-circuit, when the BT5 spec is (finally) finalized, the W1 will be ready to go for BT5 long before the competition can roll-out their silicon. Now with BT5 official seems AirPods might be outdated before they ship given their cost. Maybe Apple can get it right next year and update with the W2 chip.
Don't like it, don't buy it. Simple as that.I still dont get why the **** these thing are ONLY controlled via siri..... ZERO physical function. Want to lower your music? thats a 5 second process, at best. Change song? another 5 seconds..
how the **** is this ok?
The "why" was that they apparently had a design mandate that said that there wouldn't be a "master" and "slave" situation between the 'buds. In retrospect, that may have been a mistake...you'd be surprised how terrible a delay of just 20 milliseconds can sound...and as the article states, other bluetooth headsets just send the signal to one earpiece but the Airpods send to both earpieces (not sure why.) It's like trying to pair up two different Bose speakers and have audio play through both at the same time
And add to the fact that it was his operational experience that Steve Jobs praised-and painted him as one of the reasons Apple was able to announce something on any given day and Steve could proudly say "they will be in stores tomorrow!"I am not paid what he's paid. His chair doesn't make him infallible and free from comment by customers and vendors.
It's business, not a religion.
I attached the picture again just for you. It's the Phantom Console, also known as the xbox killer, It's release date was pushed back several times but it was never released. What's that?
Pretty easy to sit there an criticize, isn't it?
Oh, and you had to go back to 1997 to find a (ridiculous) second "example"? Personally, I'd call that a pretty stellar track-record!
One of the things they said during the Keynote was that the W1 can be flashed with new firmware.I wonder if these things get software updates. The watch gets updates via the phone, which talks to the Internet and the watch. I hope the pods can do the same!
AirPods were originally slated to launch in October, but the wireless earphones were later delayed. Apple said it needed "a little more time" before they are ready for customers, and it has yet to provide an official update since.

While the exact reason for the delay remains unclear, a person familiar with the development of AirPods told The Wall Street Journal that Apple's troubles appear to be related to its "efforts to chart a new path for wireless headphones," in addition to resolving what happens when users lose one of the earpieces or the battery dies.Last month, Barclays analysts said AirPods should enter production in December. Their research note said quantities would be limited to between 10 and 15 million AirPods to start. Meanwhile, an alleged email response from Apple CEO Tim Cook said AirPods should begin shipping over the "next few weeks."
With just two weeks remaining in the holiday shopping season, some believe Apple should now wait until the new year to launch AirPods, in line with an early rumor about a January 2017 launch. The wireless earphones remain listed as both "coming soon" and "currently unavailable" on different sections of Apple's website.

I really wanted to get these but I got tired of waiting so I bought Beats Solo3 headphones.
Anyone looking to get the Solo3 should check out Costco. They're selling them for $219.99.
How long have you been a customer? I've been buying their stuff for 34 years. I promise you, the majority of those years did not see anything innovative released. I agree the Mac is being neglected and that worries me the most of anything as it's the backbone of the company. Every company has problematic releases. That doesn't worry me. Mac neglect does.
So is it time to just buy the Beats version and stop waiting for this?
we don't know that he rushed it. we don't know what happened. Apple hasn't said anything official, this is all speculation. I think its just ridiculous the people here complaining about not getting a product for Christmas. Real nice 1st world problem to have. It's a shame you all have food but not wireless ear buds.I totally agree with this one. Engineers are not at fault but Phil rushing annoucement almost 6 months or more.

your point?Seriously? A MR user since 2007 and you write this in 2016? Really?
your point?
Easy to fix. Simply use a wire to connect the pods. Oh wait...
again - your point? i'm discussing...My point is your SJW tone - and the sarcastic "first world problem".

I'm sorry you felt Beats was your best solution. Boom boom boom!!I really wanted to get these but I got tired of waiting so I bought Beats Solo3 headphones.

None of the reviews ever mentioned this problem. Wonder why they think it is now?
