Double tap Airpod and say "Next Song".

Feature has that's been around before Siri... but before you held down the Play/Pause Button.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. Not always able to "talk" to my music delivery device (working outside with machinery, exercising and out of breath, etc.)

I appreciate losing a wire, but not losing the ability to just touch something real quick to change a song or go back a song, play/pause.

I was going to get these, as my wired ones are not working right.

But not being able to control volume is a huge part of me passing on it.

I hope future versions have volume control.

You can mute them with a touch. Maybe you can use Siri to adjust volume - not sure?

I think the mute function is the most important.

Can someone explain why are people so excited about these headphones?

I'm being serious not sarcastic. We've had wireless headphones for years and now people line up as if it was the first iPad.

No one has made great truly wireless headphones yet. Most of them have been mediocre or bad. I have 2 pairs and they aren't great. The best previously announced were the Bragi Dash, upcoming Bragi Headphone and Jabra sportphones. 2 of them cost $250 and have health tracking things that nobody really wants to use. The Bragi Headphone isn't out yet but will cost $150.

Airpods are the first non IEM style earbuds to be truly wireless.

W1 chip and Class One BT makes the connection stronger and the battery last longer than typical wireless buds.

Actually I was in line for the first iPad at Best Buy... I think there were less than 10 people there that day in LA.

#1. Workday? So what are you doing during this "workday"? Oh, yeah... posting on Macrumors. Hard work, EH?
#2. Orders quickly slipped past today. yes, ordering is generally the easiest way -- but not everyone WANTS to do it that way. Why should people have to purchase things the same way YOU would?
#3. Uh, did you miss the article a few stories down with a picture of people lined up IN THE U.K.? I find it funny you specifically called out "North Americans" but missed that they were doing the same in the U.K. too...

I'm starting to think there's some "Canadian Stupidity" happening here... blind to irony, blind to typical Apple online ordering shortages, blind to the U.K. article posted just a bit ago with the same thing going on.

Get back to work.... while you still have a job.

... and I'm starting to think there's some "Blind Bigotry" happening here.

Why can't they be compared to bluetooth earbuds that cost 1/3 as much that have equal or better sound quality?

I wouldn't really care - I just want them, and I wouldn't be surprised if someone says they sound good and someone else says they do not sound good. No big deal.

I can see standing in line for a new iPhone/iPad/Mac but seriously? For earphones?!?!?! I'm as tech as the next guy decked to the gills but I'd rather stay at home and crank up the music on my Beats headphones than stand in freezing weather to grab ear buds.

I'm an Apple lover/fanboy but I feel very weird knowing people are standing in line in the cold for low quality earbuds.

I would if I could - no Apple Store here - great Christmas present surprise for my son.

I think you assume a lot when you say low quality earbuds - you know this without even trying them and take the time to post about that?

I feel very weird knowing you are posting about it - lol.

So much jealousy and butthurt trolling in this thread, it's painful. What an infested ****hole this forum has become. Seems to be much worse now than it's ever been... I remember trolling and apple-bashing to be about 1/10 of postings but now it's pretty much 50/50.

Also, still nothing at the Apple Store in Montreal. :( Will check again after work.

I wonder what new thing Apple could release that people will not stand in line for?

I'm sure there's been a recent example?

Got mine this morning at Oakridge store in CA. They only had around 10 or so and a few people left disappointed. So far so good. I still get little hiccups in audio though here and there I was hoping would be gone. Pairing process was simple. One thing that was interesting was that although it paired to my Mac and watch, iPad, etc. over iCloud, I had to manually pair it with the case to the new Apple TV. Sound quality though I am not an audiophile is great. I imagine those looking for high quality though have their own really nice headphones, great DACs, and go off of vinyl to get really great sound. All told I'm happy with them. No way are they coming out of my ears and are quite comfy for me. your mileage may vary, so that argument for me is moot. My headphones were constantly tangled, which is one frustration I am glad not to have anymore along with my cats constantly chewing up the cords. I also own the Bose Wireless Around ears from about three years ago. I made an unboxing video for those interested...

AirPods Unboxing

Update: Ran into an issue where the audio was lagging behind the videos. Chatted with Apple and they had me put the pods back in their case and then take them back out again. Issue was resolved.

Same reason a macbook pro can't be compared to a $299 that runs microsoft word equal or better

You didn't just mock someone because of their music taste - did you? Regardless of what you think about Prince, mocking someones music taste is classless. Besides, that is your comeback for them having an opinion for a line for Apple products? Comment about the line or the product... not their musical taste. sad...

It was a reply to his judgement of those people he disagreed with. I like prince, I was just making a comparison that those in glass houses can't really judge others

Over the last several years my policy on new technology, wait and see. Pays off in less aggravation. Now that does not mean wait until version 2.0, just let the dust settle. I do appreciate those who are early adapters and report accurately about their experiences. Thank you!

good lord don't people have to work?

love the logic.

airpods value < day off from work
Not everyone holds the same work schedule. I was lined up at my local Apple Store which opened up at 8am. Was lucky enough to snag a set and was on my way into work 15 minutes later. Arrived to my office on time too. A win win!

But what if you're socially nervous and would rather change the volume discreetly? I usually turn volume way down before walking into a building or public transport, I get super self conscious about other people hearing my music because I absolutely hate it when I can hear someone else's. It's such an obnoxious thing.

can't you use the iPhone itself or your apple watch to control the volume?

Oh, lines full of scalpers, NICE! Already popping up on eBay for $400.

That's what is so infuriating and just another reason I refuse to do the "line thing" anymore.

The line is largely full of scalpers. Apple is doing nothing to limit how many you can buy.
It's just ridiculous.

Tie it to Apple ID's and make it 2x per ID maximum and at least introduce SOME level of friction for scalpers.
