Can someone explain why are people so excited about these headphones?

I'm being serious not sarcastic. We've had wireless headphones for years and now people line up as if it was the first iPad.
In all seriousness:
It is an Apple product. There is a big following of Apple fans. That is a reasonable explanation.

However, I agree with the heart of what you are saying. I cannot believe these things get that much attention and publicity.

... and I'm starting to think there's some "Blind Bigotry" happening here.

Bigotry?

Toward who?

And I DARE you to say "Canadians" being that you don't know me or where I'm from, who I'm related to and where they're from... I'm just pointing out the facts. I literally know and LOVE [specific] Canadians.

Wow, triggered. I own lots of Apple stuff and simply dislike their AirPods. Sorry I ruined your day. It is possible to not swoon over every single item they manufacture.

I happen to like the apparent worst product ever produced according to MR...the 2016 tMBP. Stunned silence!!1
Not triggered lol. Clearly he isn't. He's just confused how someone could be so arrogant to think their opinion must be better than or the same as everyone else's.

That's what is so infuriating and just another reason I refuse to do the "line thing" anymore.

The line is largely full of scalpers. Apple is doing nothing to limit how many you can buy.
It's just ridiculous.

Tie it to Apple ID's and make it 2x per ID maximum and at least introduce SOME level of friction for scalpers.
It is a limit of two per customer. Just funny to see a couple old ladies in these lines.....yeah because granny was just chomping at the bit for some damn wireless airpods to use on her flip phone. They pay these people $50 to stand in line and buy them. It's been going on for year.

Some may be insulted by the profiling but it's not profiling when it's totally true that over 50 percent of people in these lines for ANY apple product is typically a European scalper

I could understand if they were selling NES Classic Editions but lining up for headphones is silly

LOL the NES classic is such a rip off for what it is. If you happen to know about something called Retropie then it would more than replace the NES classic for about the same price assuming you already have some USB controllers or Playstation controllers, or Xbox one controllers and long microUSB to USB cables

Scored one from the grand central store at 2:05 PM. Last one guy in front brought two.

You don't need to say "Hey Siri" You just double tape them.

So is wearing headphones while driving... you can wear 1 of them but then you shouldn't be listening to music.
I was referring to a voice call, not music.

Another MacRumors member deeply concerned on what people do with their time and money.

It's fun. It's like a hobby. Shopping has replaced religion and a lot of other things where I live. No big deal, it's everywhere you look.

Glad to know that mine are nice and waiting for me at the fedex holding spot near my place.

I made an easy 2k profit after selling the ones i ordered online. My 10yr old and I stopped at apple store and got four more pairs this morning as she wanted a pair. Not a bad deal but not as good as what I got on the jb iphone plus phones. People really went nuts for those for some reason.

I went to my local Apple store in the Salt Lake metro area and got their 15 minutes before the website said they'd opened. Apparently, they opened an hour earlier and were all sold out already. They also told me they were holding some for pickup, which surprised me because reports say Apple wasn't doing pickup with these.

It really hasn't. My dad stood in line this time 20 years ago to get me an N64 for Christmas. I stood in line myself yesterday morning to get my son a hatchimal and an NES classic. The difference is now we have forums like this to openly discuss en mass whereas back then there were only the other people in line to complain to.

Got mine delivered today in the U.K. I'm very impressed. They stay in even with me *unnaturally* shaking my head up down left right - so day to day *normal* movements they seem very unlikely to fall out. I'm very happy.

Super easy setup and can use 1 at a time which is perfect to leave on one all the time and have the other ear free. When you take one out it auto pauses and re-starts when you put it in. The battery charger case is also cool. This is innovative.

I've been using Bose sports Bluetooth before these and they are a good fit with the unique rubber fitting Bose have but you still have the wire from one bud to the other that invariably gets snagged on a collar when you turn your head side to side - and so slowly loosens the fitting constantly. Very annoying.

So far - first impressions - the AirPods seems brilliant.

Update - double tap the ear piece to activate Siri and say increase / decrease volume :)

They aren't, except for business customers who phoned or emailed in the request.

It's just ridiculous.

They do limit the # of units one can buy at a time. The store I was in this morning would only allow a max quantity of 2 per customer. You'll never be able to control what one does with what they buy once they've made the purchase. I don't like it any more than you do. But, it is what it is. If people weren't willing to pay a premium for instant gratification, then the problem would go away. But, it'll never...

Fashion place was holding all their stock at opening 9:00... in sure for Apple employee hookups.

Tie the purchases to an Apple ID & Credit Card
There are definitely ways to introduce some amount of friction to the scalping process.
