Apple really messed up the pricing here. These headphones are the greatest of all time and should not be available anywhere, just like Nvidia's latest graphics cards. Apple should raise the price a couple hundred dollars. Real Apple fans will definitely shell out $999 for these beauties.

Why buy two Apple headphones when you can get one for the same price?

I still can’t get over that these don’t fold up a little more and don’t come with a proper case.

I really wanted these for the ease of switching between my MBP, iPad and phone, but I’m sticking with my Sony’s. So frustrating that Apple dropped the ball so badly on the portability side.

How on earth did they miss the mark for anyone who will take their cans outside the home?

Gotta wait for the airpods *pro* max for that 😆 (seriously though, that's one the things holding me back from buying these)

Very select few stores.
I have 5 Apple Stores within 30 miles.
The only Apple Store close enough with stock would be a 500 mile round trip.

I ordered a pair, and I own XM3's, Surface Headphones, and AKG 7XX's. There are things I like about each of them, ideally the AirPods Max will replace the two wireless pairs. I'm hoping the mesh ear cups on the AirPods will allow them to be more comfortable for longer periods, when working for a few hours my ears get pretty toasty with the Surface/MX3. Also the mic's on the XM3's are terrible even in a pindrop silent home office. The AKG's I use when I just want to listen to something.

So my hope is the mic is way better and the ear cushions are more comfortable for long periods. Those two things and then they will be worth it to me because of the convince of the H1 vs the pain of switching devices with these other headphones (Surface ones are actually pretty good if you only want two devices, but try to switch between three devices that are "always on" like iPhone/iPad and you will understand why the H1 is valuable.)

I checked the stock at my apple store, there were space grey ones for about 5 minutes after 8AM, now there is only red. I think this has been the worst stocked product launch ever at Apple (I think there is a demand for them, but normally they will have stock in stores on launch day...)
I think that people like us who buy more than one of what many consider to be the 'same thing' for various reasons are the real market for these.

I am right there with you on the XM3 mic.. I love mine for EVERYTHING they do except the mic. Such a PITA that when I'm in the airport, I use my AirPods Pro, not the XM3 until I'm on the plane - just in case someone calls.

Anyway, super excited for tomorrow when my AirPods Max arrive and can't wait to compare them to my other sets.

I'm still waiting for some professional reviews/comparisons to come out. Got my XM4's over the weekend from Sony and so far, they've *definitely* lived up to the hype
On pure audio, Apple can never match Sony. But with consumer level products, they can do something.
