I can get 2 Sony XM4 in Canada for the same price....

no thanks

You know you made a great post when it upsets half of the forum.

This offering at this price point is pretty indefensible. It’s almost (but not quite as bad) as the Mac Pro wheels and $999 stand.

Apple is starting to believe too much of its own hubris, and clearly no matter how nonsensical their offering, the faithful with pony up for it.

People saying these are too expensive have the wrong mentality. Aside from the mental images conjured up of you in your rusty, dented ,1991 Honda Accoird, with the driver’s side window that won’t crack up anymore. You are looking at it wrong. It isn’t that these are too expensive, the problem is you simply do not earn enough.

Now if you look at it that way you can do something about it. You can not lower the price of the headphones howevere you could take some of the time it takes to post here everyday and improve your marketable skill set.

You could probably earn enough in one or two shifts being a mall Santa to obtain these.

People should stop saying that the Sony XM4 are almost identical in features to these. They are not! Sony does not offer spatial audio with their headphones. Their “360” function is not the same thing. Please educate yourself first before commenting: there are a lot of videos on YouTube now comparing both headphones and discussing the differences.

I have the QC35, the XM3 and XM4. The XM4 have way more white noise than XM3 or QC35. Disappointingly so.

I’m interested to see how the Max behave, and hopefully we’ll see some actually useful travel cases (you know, for when we can actually travel).

Spatial audio isn’t something I use though. Can’t say I watch movies on phone. Or wear headphones while watching them either.

I’m surprised that no one has addressed build quality in all of these discussions. Sure, Bose and Sony make some great products, but they are plastic. Kind of like comparing a Dell Latitude laptop to a Macbook. It’s about more than sound.

And you call yourself an Apple fan?! Do you want these headphones or don't you?
Not really a fan.
I was debating picking some up from the store but driving through Austin traffic on purpose is not something I am up for on a Tuesday or ever.

Just curious if any stores nearby had them.

I was able purchase one for pick up in the bay area (space gray). I love my airpods pro, I own the sony XM3 headphones and while I agree with most people here that the price is ridiculous, and it wish it was 399 - i didn't want to wait 12 weeks to try these out so I budged.

I hold HD650s and Focal Elex so i can use those as comparisons, but while the pandemic has stop me from traveling - this might be something i can consider for travel and work. It also helps that i have multiple Apple devices and the seamless connection works.

Audio is a bit different than standard pricing - it is not linear. If i want to upgrade my Focals to a better set of headphones, i'm paying for 400+ just to get 10% better sound. Usually price to performance on audio equipment has a saturated curve.

That being said, my Focals and HD650s are designed to last me 10+ years while these airpods with alot of the power coming from a chip might be costly to change every 3 years or so.

That's absurd. Would you say the same if Apple priced them at, say, $5K? Just earn more, right? The high price is justified only if the product delivers accordingly. Let's wait for the real reviews (so far we only had reviews from the reviewers pre-selected by Apple).

On the other hand, if you are talking about Apple cult then sure, the price is an abstract notion. I am curious how many people who are buying these $500 headphones never had high-end headphones before? We have had those for decades so one did not need to wait for Apple to release them.

I like the design and colors of the headphones. The "case" on the other hand, that looks like a feminine testicle purse. It's like the people in charge of the design made a bet to see if they can make Apple customers walk around dangling their headphones in a nut sack. I wonder if it will get looser and hang lower as the years go by. :)

Apart from the hideous case, the fact that these headphones do not fold as compact as some other models is an issue. These headphones will are not good for traveling (because of the size) regardless of the case.

yes, got my Space Gray at Queens Apple store. The fastest to have it so far. Edited to add: Checked the availability online and this color is no longer available 30 miles from me.

Apple's site was showing availability at a bunch of stores near me in New England a few minutes ago. Now it's showing no availability at all of them. Is anyone else seeing that?

For the sake of debate...the build quality has to be balanced with weight on a headphone. And aluminum, while being a superior material over plastic, is very easily dented and scratched.

So while I do appreciate the build quality, a superior alloy or other material that is lighter might have been better.

Everyone gettings these is going to have huge bulging neck muscles though!
