i hope apple goes bankrupt

why?

you hope thousands lose their jobs? You hope that competition in the smartphone / tech / computer industry dries up? what Good would come from Apple going bankrupt?

I'm far from an Apple Fanboy. Some here probably call me a hater, But wishing bankruptcy is a long stretch that has big ramification for the entire industry.

What I hope, is that Apple has a good kick in the groin and wakes up to realize that what they've done in 2016 in particular has not been a user friendly move and they do a quick about face and fix their issues. That way they can continue to employ thousands of people world wide, provide compelling and competitive products that keep everyone (including themselves) on their toes, and we get more advancements in technology and power.

What a pair of lemons these are shaping up to be, with their 5h battery life and sound quality as good as the earphones that come for free with your iPhone. smh
The case adds 24hr of battery life when you're not using them. It's an issue if you're listening to 5 consecutive hours of music or watching a 5 hour movie though, which I'm sure everyone does

I think this shows that production capacity was the real issue delaying the release of the AirPods. And my guess is that Apple didn't want to disappoint with a January 2017 release, so they opened the tap knowing that they'd go into backorder, but at least they made the pre-Christmas release date (for those who ordered the very limited quantity that was available to ship). It will be interesting to read the reviews when they start to come out. I'm likely going to buy 2 sets (one for me and one for my wife), but I'll wait to see some real world reviews before pulling the pin.

Apple has updated its website to indicate AirPods are now estimated to ship in 6 weeks in the United States and many other countries around the world.

[...]

The delay means customers who have yet to place an order will likely not receive their AirPods until 2017.

*looks at calendar* 2.5 weeks left in 2016.
*looks at article* Mentions 6-week wait; says I "will likely not" receive them until 2017 if I order now.
*posts to MacRumors forum* So you're saying there's still a chance I get them in 2016 if I order now?

Ship in 6 weeks?

How come, their first ship was actually the Titanic.

Just look at her deck.

Haha that is funny

Bought a pair of BT earbuds on clearance for $16 this weekend. The sound is a bit off an muffled but acceptable enough for what I am using them for. The earbuds include controls for start/stop and volume up/down and includes a mic. Nobody has complained when I used the mic for phone conferences. These also come with a wrap for around my neck so I can quickly remove the bids without putting them away somewhere.

Granted there is likely a HUGE difference in sound quality between what I bought and earbuds in the cost range of Apple AirPods, but I don't see the justification for me to spend $200+ on top of what I spent for the buds I have; especially on the AirPods that take away features the cheap ones provide that I enjoy.

I am only upset about the removal of the 3.55mm jack because they were replaced with Lightning earbuds. If regular 3.55mm headphones came with the iPhone 7 and required the adapter, I would have been more okay with the issue.

I am upset with the AirPods because they don't seem good enough to cost $150 especially compared to non-Apple competitors in the same range.

Apple is going to have to change a lot for version 2 for me to spend any money on AirPods. Or they will need to include them with every iPhone next year forward. I'm not spending my money on version 1.

Good luck to those that are investing in the AirPods. This has been a pretty bad announcement/launch for an Apple product.

Amen. iPhone 7 should have ditched Lightning in favor of USB-C. That would have been the best move for the consumer...but not Apple's dongle sales.

Apple may yet switch to USB-C for the iPhone, but Lightning is smaller and more robust than USB C so we will see, but in the meantime, there are a few minor problems with your conspiracy theory that this was all a plot by Apple to sell dongles.

  • Most people simply use the earbuds that come with the phone and Apple gave lightning equipped Earbuds with every phone
  • For those who have a different set of headphones that use the legacy jack, Apple gave them a free adapter
  • For those very few who need more than one adapter, Apple is selling them at close to their cost at $9.

Now, what was it you were saying about there being a secret military base on the moon?

I've said this at the outset when these were introduced. The lack of physical controls for volume and skip features is a glaring omission.

I'm not sure what the design brief was and perhaps it was meant to work only with an iPhone.

Even so, imagine wanting change the volume when you're in packed subway car, with your iPhone buried deep in your briefcase or purse.
I've been using Bluetooth headphones/earbuds and speakers for a couple of years now.

The watch is where I mostly go now to adjust volume or skip/change songs on the go. It's easier and more accurate than fiddly little buttons on the earpiece. (Is it press the top button twice or thrice to skip back?? Or is it the bottom button, Or is two short presses and a long press?? See what I mean.)

Clearly there is a demand for new Apple products that is angering a very small vocal amount of people.

I am not in that group of angry people you are referring to, but I would argue saying that there is a demand for this device. There is not enough evidence to support that. Just because Apples supplies are low, doesn't meant anything. If Apple only had 100 sets of these to sell, and sold them all out, then shipping times will slip.

I might buy these myself, but am waiting for the reviews and real life experience on them.

Use the iPhone or watch to change tracks. Solved. Next...

Apple leaves out the headphone port and makes using the same headphones on an iPhone and Mac a hassle cuz of the connector. What happens? People buy the surrogate for 170 bucks.

Superblend between laughter and pain.

Clearly you've heard that, "fortune favours the bold", but I'm sorry to say it doesn't mean what you think... o_O

Yeh I really agree with this. I like the Type C standard, the sooner everything uses it the better.

I'm so sick of this. Every time something is released from Apple you have to wait weeks for it to receive it. It just discourages me from buying it at all. I understand if this happens once or twice with suppliers, but its with every single product. Don't release it at all until you have enough stock.
