Apple may yet switch to USB-C for the iPhone, but Lightning is smaller and more robust than USB C so we will see, but in the meantime, there are a few minor problems with your conspiracy theory that this was all a plot by Apple to sell dongles.

  • Most people simply use the earbuds that come with the phone and Apple gave lightning equipped Earbuds with every phone
  • For those who have a different set of headphones that use the legacy jack, Apple gave them a free adapter
  • For those very few who need more than one adapter, Apple is selling them at close to their cost at $9.

Now, what was it you were saying about there being a secret military base on the moon?
Ha ha he got served !

Blah blah only Apple sheep are buying them. Blah blah Apple has lost their innovation. Can't wait for the negative posts to start flooding in. Clearly there is a demand for new Apple products that is angering a very small vocal amount of people.

But but but... you forgot the classic froth-worthy crowd pleaser that Apple is now intentionally withholding inventory for 6 weeks to stimulate demand! Wah...

I actually don't think there's any serious problem except manufacturing such small, complicated EarPods. None of the tech journalists who got a pair for testing saw any problem with them. It's a problem with volume manufacture.

Mine are coming on the 19th. I'm willing to sell them to any MacRumors member with guaranteed delivery before Christmas for the low low price of $2,499. I know, what a bargain.

(Just a joke, but mine are coming on the 19th and I'm super excited!)

Dude with respect if you're investing in $16 dollar bt headphones then you really aren't apples target market...

But who is?

Plus, shouldn't I be?

I've invested a lot in Apple products for the past 7+ years. I have used iPhone for all of these years. My phone plan includes 4 iPhones because my entire family uses them.

If I'm not included in the target audience, then Apple really has messed up the product.

I'm not saying AirPods are/will be a failure. They aren't for me and I fail to understand any large audience who these are for who would actually invest in them; outside of unwise customers who were "bullied" into "needing" AirPods, the press, and Apple's dedicated enthusiasts.

EDIT: Clarification: I am willing to spend money on headphones I find worth the cost. $150 can be reasonable with the right features and sound quality. AirPods don't meet my personal requirements.

Problem is now for the frequent flyer. You still need to bring wired headphones for the entertainment package on the seat back.

someone might want to tell the dude in that video that you can get a pair of bluetooth headphones for next to nothing on amazon.

Evidently, there are lots of people who aren't concerned about the short battery life or the possibility of losing them. Apple seems to have another successful product launch on its hands, once again defying early criticisms.

There's an interesting review here, where the user tries to dislodge the AirPods:

Maybe they stick but they sure don't look cool

i hope apple goes bankrupt

Why? I don't particularly like Buick automobiles. But I wouldn't get so worked up about the company that I'd want them to go bankrupt with thousands losing jobs as a result.

I'd simply choose to not consider Buick next time I'm looking for a car. Last thing I'd do is give a company, whether an automobile manufacture or tech company, the kind of power over my life to cause that kind of anger.

Basically my Dec. 20th scheduled AirPods are becoming as worth as gold

girlfriend will have to wait a little longer ;)

Most frequent flyers I've seen watch their own content on their own devices.

Delta uses a slightly different approach. They let everyone stream from the plane's library of entertainment over in-flight wifi for free. I haven't used it much, but it's been an option for a while.

The seatback screen is becoming less important, IMHO. All I use it for now is the moving-map, flight stats and turning the reading light on/off.

Don't let logic sneak in.

Hi I appreciate your point but your answer again illustrates mine that you are not apples target audience.

You pay a premium for Apple quality. Yes they have made some missteps but in the whole scheme of things they more often than other brands make quality durable products.

These headphones are no exception. They are a convenience. Small, light, good sound quality and wire free with more battery time than most competitors. You pay a premium for this (even though airpods are priced very competitively anyway in relation to other current brands. ).

If you don't think they are useful then don't buy them. But don't expect Apple to drop the price on these earphones just because you expect ultimate quality for $16

Why not have iPhone 8 to order online while we're at it, "to be delivered in 50-56 weeks"

This is exactly how I feel about multiple Apple products lately that I initially had an interest in but then lost interest when I found out I couldn't actually purchase them.

Apple has literally saved me thousands of $'s this year.

I don't like Windows and I don't like Android so I wouldn't go to a forum that is discussing either of them as I've got no interest, so why is there so many Apple haters come onto macrumors just to slate anything Apple. Crazy.

It energizes and gives those without power an audience and a (false) sense of strength and authority, and, along with that, a rush of internal fulfillment.

I bought a pair yesterday with a December 21st delivery date. I intended to keep them, but seeing how in-demand they are, I sold them on eBay last night for $299. I figure I can wait until 2017 to get a pair and see what fellow forum members have to say about them.
