My hesitation with the pro is eventually with my experience with the first and second AirPods, the battery starts to degrade in 1 1/2 years into its use. I can stomach $140 but $249 every 2 years is hard to swollow. I know my AirPods will degrade in a year.
Get AppleCare then before it expires in 2 years, go to Apple and let them know that it needs a battery service. Boom! Functional AirPods for an additional 2 years.

I really wish someone (Apple please?) could work on the latency problem with Bluetooth Headphones.
if you make music on an iPhone / iPad it’s unusable! You can’t play anything in realtime without a delay and it’s just crap. So the whole ”spontaneous“ make music wherever I am on my phone doesn’t even make sense when most phones don’t have a headphone socket and we’re all encouraged to buy blue tooth headphones.

is it impossible to solve?
If you’re using Bluetooth headphones for music then you have something else coming for you. Obviously you need wired headphones so I’m not sure why you’re complaining when you opted to use wireless headphones. It’s not like you’re forced to use them....

Good to see replacements are available, I struggled to get replacements for my old in-ear headphones -apple actually did send me some, but they were for the really old in ear model. Might be tempted to pick up a set of these as work colleagues aren't silent enough for the original Air pods.

Good for you, but guess what.. they're terrible.

The sound quality is pretty similar to the wired earpods that comes with the iPhone.

Btw, that's Singapore dollars including delivery. So around USD 3.6.

Agree that AppleCare+ is worth it for AirPods, you have 60 days to buy it from the original purchase date. If the batteries drop below 80% the first year, replacement is free with the original warranty. (Other countries have longer initial warranty terms.)

I thought that AppleCare was purchasable up to the end of the original one year warranty? AND it gave you... one more year. Or, does it vary by product line now?

Given that AirPods Pro use more battery for ANC and for Transparency Mode, the 80% drop should occur faster depend on usage. So yes, AppleCare+ and the warranty should make them last for at least 3 years max.

Modified my tips with a hacked pair of comply tips. Fits much better now. Still can’t pass the automated seal test, though - my damned earholes are apparently too big or something.

Yes, it varies by product, and it’s changed over the years. Currently iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Watch, HomePod and AirPods all have only a 60-day window after purchase to add AppleCare+. Typically it covers a total of two years from date of purchase, supplementing the regular manufacturer’s warranty during the first year with coverage for accidental damage, which isn’t covered unless AppleCare+ is purchased.

However for Mac products, AC+ adds two additional years of coverage (months 13-36) and accidental damage coverage is added to the initial warranty period.

Apple Watch Edition and Hermes are different, since they come with a two year warranty instead of the usual one year warranty. So AC+ adds year three, and supplements the first two years with accidental damage coverage.

Different from all other products, for AppleTV hardware AppleCare can be purchased up to one year after date of purchase.

Note that if you want to add AC+ after the initial purchase, the product must pass a remote diagnostic to be eligible. Also, covered incidents of damage are subject to a deductible, and are usually limited to two incidents total during the coverage term.

One of the new features is the ability to pay for AC+ coverage by the month, and the ability to extend AC+ on a month-to-month basis for an additional term once the initial AC+ coverage expires. Here’s Apple’s description:

In the United States, when you purchase AppleCare+ coverage for your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch, you can choose to pay monthly or pay upfront for 24 months of coverage. (For Apple Watch Edition and Hermes, you can pay upfront for 36 months.) If you paid upfront, you can renew coverage on a monthly basis after the 24 or 36 months is over.

Without an adequate seal, bass performance and/or noise cancellation may be affected I might conjecture. Perhaps when Comply releases the official version there will be a set that fits well 🤞

I can't find them on either the US or UK Apple website. I'm wanting to have a spare set of tips, just in case I need them.
They're seemingly NOT being sold!
Unbelievably you have to book a physical Genius apmt and show they're damaged, to get just a single replacement. And yes, that $4 price is likely for ONE PIECE, not a pack of 2 or 6!

I got this from an online chat with Apple support a couple of days ago – they were their usual utterly clueless selves! See the online chat below:

These are the Support pages...
The first one says quite clearly "Replace an AirPod or ear tip" in the top left of the page:

Which then links to contacting Support options (which I used Chat, and got nowhere!):

I think they’ll probably be added to the store at some point. We really don’t know much about the pricing except that it’s rumored to be rather inexpensive for a $250 product.

Unbelievable that. Surely at some point they will be available for sale either online or in store or both.
I would like to purchase some to have as spares, incase the supplied ones get either too dirty or manky to clean.

The $4 is for a pair, and they’re available through the support website now.

  • To contact support, head to support.apple.com.
  • Once you've logged in with your Apple ID, select Replace an AirPod or ear tip.
  • Select your AirPods Pro in the list of devices associated with your Apple ID. You may have to enter your serial number.
  • Follow the steps on screen to order in replacement tips and have them shipped to your house.
Of course, if you don't want do do that, you can also call 1-800-MY-APPLE.

Just ordered a medium pair. It is a shame you can’t order all of them at once. And once you place an order for one size, you cannot immediately order another size, as your order is noted as a repair / replacement.

The instructions above don't seem to work for me here in the UK.
Also in the support section, the AirPods Pro don't appear in the list of devices associated with my Apple ID.

It does mention on the bottom of the support webpage that "Your AirPods will appear in the Find My iPhone app, but they won't appear in your Apple ID device list".

So here in the UK, it's a case of wait till they appear as a spare part on the Apple website, and or when physical Apple Stores have them.

It is. Any compression introduces latency and Bluetooth doesn't have the bandwidth necessary for uncompressed audio, nor do people want to make it because it would eat batteries.

Microsoft had this problem on the XBox, where they needed low-latency game audio to the controller, so they used WiFi instead.

That’s a pain, especially if you use a different size in each ear and lose them both o_O

Couldnt they have a special low compression mode? I'd rather have a lower bit rate and low latency.

When I signed in using my Apple ID (same used to buy them) they were listed there.
But yes I concur, the UK doesn't get a 'ship to home' option, we get a screen telling us to traipse to a store or AASP to either pick some up or order them:

Screen Shot 2019-11-11 at 15.14.36.png

Highly annoying. Like we're expected to just magically have all the time in the world to travel all the way to our nearest store/AASP to get a tiny piece of rubber. Really, Apple?!

And before I get the availability thing. Sure they’re likely tight now, but why not just be upfront about it, and get Support staff to just say they'll be available for order on the website in the next couple of weeks, but in the meantime it's only Apple Stores/AASP's that have stocks available, and the price will be £x per one/pair/6-set. The End.

Instead we have this hoo-har obfuscation ordeal when dealing with Apple Support staff, that we have to waste our time with trying to wangle actual facts out of them. Bad management technique, yet again from Apple.

I'm from the UK.

I got in contact with an Apple Store that I will be near next week. I asked the lady who took my call if they have them in stock in that particular shop.

She said they had, but to get them, I would need to make a Genius Bar appointment to get them .
So I made one, and I'll update next week if I manage to get a pair.

I enquired as to how much they were. She told me £3.75 for one pair. She said its for one pair only, and not the three size pack that comes in the box with the AirPods Pro.

Following my couple of posts above, I booked a Genius apmt yesterday for today (a couple of hours ago) at Westfield (White City, London).
I said my dog had eaten the small ones, and asked if I could get an additional spare set while there. The Genius bought two little boxes out, each with a small "S" sticker on the box, inside of which were a plain version of the same folding card holder with just the TWO of the size wanted.

Even though I arrived 5mins early for my apmt, I had to wait nearly an HOUR to be seen (really really slow processing on doing even the simplest of things, making me truly loath Apple Store apmts these days!).

Initially as I didn't have the "broken" small pair (why on earth would I!) he was going to charge me £3.75 for each pair (thus £7.50 for two pairs), but given the delay he gave me them both for nothing. So be aware, if you don't have the originals of the size you want replaced, you'll be charged for them – but I was fully prepared to pay for them anyway, as I wanted them as spares not replacements.

Here's a pic of them, the card comes inside the box that has stock# "923-0386B" and a barcode for size "S", printed on it:

Yeah I'm taking my AirPods with me, just in case the appointment staff need to look at them for some strange reason. But after all, I shouldn't have to as I'm just wanting to have a spare set of tips in case the ones supplied with the AirPods Pro become too manky to clean or become damaged.
