People buy new cars every 6 years (on average)
But cars don’t get scrapped after six years.
and folks are complaining about an electronic device that needs to be replaced, perhaps, every 2 years.
Let’s say for the sake of argument a car engine lasts 100’000 miles. How would people feel if a replacement engine would cost 70% of the original price for the whole car?

The cost for a ‘battery replacement’ is one thing, the fact that the whole rest of the device has to be essentially molten down (or burned or simply thrown onto a landfill) after two years is the other bone of contention (though the first aspect is actually caused by the second).

No, $4 is certainly not expensive, but knowing Apple, this will probably be a product where the packaging costs more to manufacture than the actual product.
The previous "cheapest Apple-product", the MagSafe2 adapter is at least metal, with wiring and a magnet requiring an assembly process, it has to be more expensive to manufacture than the pretty-printed cardboard box it's sold in.
These incredibly cheap to make-injected moulded plastic pieces could very well cost less to manufacture than the cardboard box they most certainly will be delivered in.

So, making the packaging cheaper could lower the price of the product significantly while at the same time raising profit!

I won't waste money on Apple anymore. iPhones are trash after 18 months of use. iPadOS 13 made my iPad unusable...the only Apple product I have that works flawlessly...my 2018 mac mini running Windows 10. Not touching Catalina with a ten foot pole.

My hesitation with the pro is eventually with my experience with the first and second AirPods, the battery starts to degrade in 1 1/2 years into its use. I can stomach $140 but $249 every 2 years is hard to swollow. I know my AirPods will degrade in a year.

I'm not known for being an Apple lover, following Steve Jobs, but if you opt for the new AirPods Apple Care @ 29-bucks, you'll be covered. I begrudgingly ordered a set but I do agree; I went through two within 18-months. Tim Cook is one greedy *&%.

If time is money then you are here "wasting" money on Apple.

I have an iPhone 5s that works well. Yes, it's slower than my Xr but it's 6 years old and still works well. It still receives OS updates (security at this point), something no other phone manufacturer provides.

Is it $4 for one pair (either S, M or L) or for all three sizes?

it seems people these days lack critical thinking. :sigh:

Would you damage the tips 3 sizes all at once? Just think about it...

Great! So we won’t see you here anymore I guess. Bye Bye.

To be fair that's a reasonable price

$19 to replace your $129 Pencil 2 tip is NOT reasonable

They could easily have charged $25 each and made tons of money! Pff. Ain't buying this cheap, not-overpriced product that may actually be well built! What am I supposed to waste my money on now?

I really wish someone (Apple please?) could work on the latency problem with Bluetooth Headphones.
if you make music on an iPhone / iPad it’s unusable! You can’t play anything in realtime without a delay and it’s just crap. So the whole ”spontaneous“ make music wherever I am on my phone doesn’t even make sense when most phones don’t have a headphone socket and we’re all encouraged to buy blue tooth headphones.

is it impossible to solve?
I’ve never had delay issues on the gen 1 or gen 2 airpods nor on my solo beats 3

I didnt think I’d live long enough to see something for sale at the Apple store that costs $4.

True. But the point that most are making is not one of environmentalism (which I assume is your point), but one of cost.

Not exactly a fair analogy. After 100,000 miles, there is lots of depreciation and a new engine could easily equal the current value of the car.

However, sticking to the car analogy, there are lots of expensive car parts that do need regular replacement: tires, batteries, filters, hoses. We recognize that these, sometimes expensive, parts wear out and choose to replace rather than repair. (I'm old enough to have heard about the habit of "retreading" tires.) The batteries could be replaced on an AirPod; but the labor expense, not the part, makes it not worth it. There are lots of things that could be repaired that we decide to just purchase new rather than incurring the labor cost. Unfortunately, due to robotics and SoC, this truth most often applies to nearly electronic device.
