Please elaborate as to why it wouldn't be possible to have wireless charging standard at $149. Component costs are slightly higher, yes, but there should still be a comfortable margin. I am not someone who cares about wireless charging, but those who do will have more incentive to upgrade to AirPods 2 from AirPods 1.

Qi is standard for the included case, here it’s direct quote from Apple’s website:

“Case can be charged either wirelessly using a Qi-certified charger or with the Lightning connector”

ok, now i'd like to see them in person, cause they look ugly in the video...

and of course there isn't a 3rd gen of regular amateur airpods along side of this... crap

The value approach would be to make wireless charging standard at $149, instead of the stacking approach where it is simply added to the bottom of the stack.

The XR being sold as a cheaper alternative to the 11 is also a form of price stacking, designed to entice consumers with a lower point of entry, after which they see the missing features and end up looking further down the stack to the 11. There is clearly a lot to justify that $100 difference, so for the price stacking strategy to work it was decided to not lower the price of the older generation iPhones any further than $100, otherwise the top of the stack has too much value and fewer consumers will be looking further down.
Meh, "value" is subjective anyway so it's not really worth discussing, but I at least think it's good Apple is giving options. Could it be better? Yeah, I guess. I've always found most Apple products to be a good value from a price/feature/support/longevity point of view. I don't see the value in these though I'll admit.

If you think they cost too much, you should wait for the JBL version.
That's JBL as in JoBLess.

By the way, the market leading noise cancellation earbuds made by Bose sell for between £250 and £300 in the UK.
So, the question of whether these cost too much or not, is entirely dependent on how good they are compared to Bose.

Man, this design is "strange" to put it mildly. Samsung buds, Jabra Elite, Beoplay E8, Google buds 2 all look better (my opinion).
Based on my experience with Airpods, the "strange" design prioritizes function over form and it will be a massive hit. I am really looking forward to these!

Waiting for first reviews. The "original" airpods were garbage in terms of fit (a faster walk and boom, looking for them on the ground, especialy the right one). If these "stay in" i might be tempted...
If they fit the reviewers ears, but not yours, they’d still fall out. Good thing that Apple has a relaxed 14 day policy on new purchases. You could walk right out the store, do a few cartwheels and walk right back into the store for a full refund if they fall out.

These hit on everything except battery life. 4+ hours is plenty long at first, but the degradation worries me. My original AirPods are hardly usable anymore, lasting only about 30 minutes. Hopefully this is a different battery tech (looks like a button cell rather than cylindrical) that can survive more cycles, but this issue alone has me hesitating to buy.

I will probably pay the $30 for Apple care+, hoping that if the battery gets shot on these too (I only get 30 min on my originals now too), that it’ll be an easy replace.

I'm really curious to know how these will feel in my ears. I really HATE in-ear headsets, mainly because of the pressure they apply, so hopefully the vent eliminates that issue. I do like that the stem is, or appears to be, shorter than the standard AirPods. I also wonder how their active noise cancelation will work compared to over the ear cans. I like my Plantronics BackBeat Pro2's - used them last week on 4 flights and will have them with me tomorrow when I fly out again, but would really love the tiny form factor over the relatively huge headset I now have to add to my bag.

already ordered... very excited to try these again... the regular ones don't stay in my ear at all. i now use the powerbeats pro and those are fantastic but they aren't the nicest looking when not working out and are pocketable. since i have more money then sense here we go again... if these fit for me they will be my headphones for everything BUT working out.

Why wouldn't you use these for working out too?

Can someone please explain what is "PRO" about these?

For a very, very long time, companies have used "Pro" to mean more features and a higher price. It's sort of like saying, "That's sick, bro!" when you really mean "That's really swell, friend!"
