For the reasons you've already espoused, it is better for them to not offer this. Amazingly, the repeated whining of a handful of people doesn't actually translate to anything in the real world. Imagine that?

Seeing as the article states there are 3 different sized tips I'd say the odds are 0% of them not being removable.
A year or two? For over a decade it’s been “Apple speak” for “high-end model with the most features”.
The high end model with the most features will definitely not be the least expensive, but is that surprising?
Unfortunately no mention of colors. All that was needed for me to purchase them was additional colors. I am not paying more to be a brand ambassador for Apple. People with white stuff in their ears still look like idiots.
Not surprised that there is no colour options. White buds have been a marketing stroke of luck since the iPod.

Why do you need to wear headphones for 12 hours?
It is so easy to pop AirPods back in their case which charges them, that the battery life is almost completely meaningless. Unless you've owned them and experienced this, you can't appreciate it.
