I don't mind the cable on my earpods.

Me neither. But I welcome going wireless for working out and other tasks. Five hours of battery life is actually competitive in terms of how fast they can charge as well. 15 minutes of charging equals to three hours of usage.

1. No inline controls.

2. No noise isolation.

3. No sweat/water resistance.

4. Allegedly sound just a touch better than the terrible free headphones Apple gives away with iPhone's.

5. Hard plastic in your ear.

"The future" ;)

Note: anyone not getting the joke should go back and re-read this as one of the heavily-lobbed reasons for jettisoning 3.5mm. Granted, wireless may indeed be the future, but this is the present and what a pain the transition between now and that "the future" is going to be.

If you just come to this thread to blast those that want to purchase AirPods then just stay away. There isn't a product that has ever been created that is perfect for everyone. If you want to purchase them, great. If not, great.

Exactly.

These forums used to be helpful when people would give positive or negative opinions without just outright trashing things. Now, it's overrun by a bunch of people who hate Apple who write negative things and are only doing it to try to bash Apple. It doesn't matter whether Apple is better or worse, they just want their team (Android, Windows, whatever) to 'win' regardless of the truth.

They'll give mistruths like 'the AirPods no inline controls'. That's like political speak. You're trying to get people to THINK that there is no way to control these AirPods except through a phone or external device. That's not the truth. They're controllable by speaking to them, and that IS an 'inline control' - it is a control that is an integral part of the device.
[doublepost=1478889926][/doublepost]
They delayed them because they didn't get enough excitement from people and are afraid of low sales.

They're making 10-15 MILLION of these. Are those LOW sales that they're 'scared' of? lol

To be fair, realistically, asking Siri to increase or lower volume is a joke, so it's fair to say there are no inline controls as you normally imagine them to be.

Siri increase volume
Siri increase volume
Siri increase volume

Siri decrease volume
Siri decrease volume
Siri decrease volume

Seems more caveman than simple direct controls.

Personally I still will buy these and just assume they have no volume controls and use my iPhone or whatever to adjust volume. Like any other headphone that has no inline controls. It's a downside but not too huge.

I give Apple a year or two before they will either discontinue the AirPods altogether and leave it at that or they will discontinue the AirPods and simultaneously give their blessing to another manufacturer who's already in this market and start promoting their products just like they've now done with LG's external displays.

They will never do this. They won't license OS X and won't do this with their precious W1 chip.

You'd probably say -

Siri increase volume to medium

---- or ----

Siri increase volume
up

ok

not as hard as you say. Of course Apple has thought of this, and they'll be easier ways than what you're thinking.

If it WAS the way you describe, then, I agree, it is stupid. But I don't for a second think Apple would do that.

I don't think I will buy those anyway, but why taking so long? they already announced then delayed....
Did they rush the design out and then discovered that they have problems??

I agree, but I'd warn y'all to not create an echo chamber. There are plenty of quality BT headsets that may not have the quick pairing or really long range, but sound quality and ergonomics are much better.

Keep in mind that Apple probably capacities for something less than peak demand in order to avoid overcapacitization. They build somewhat ahead to build a launch buffer then run full out for a time before initial demand levels, they cut overtime and they meet ongoing demand with installed capacity.

Translation: supply chain problems

They weren't ready for prime time. This whole launch reminds me of Apple Maps.

Instead of waiting for something to be right, they rushed it. Honestly they look terrible. Imho you can get better looking and sounding wireless buds from several different companies.

I keep coming back to their whole announcement about the future is going to be wireless and then throwing a pair of lightning wired headphones in with the phone. Apple said one thing and did another.

lol. Ridiculous comment. Airpods will sell many many many more units and make more money than the displays. They won't discontinue these. They are the bleeding edge of the future Apple sees.

Yeah, only 12% of all US consumers said they wanted them. Lol.

How can you even say this when they're delaying it to get it right... this is so stupid. They ARE delaying it to get it perfect, instead of releasing it half-baked like Apple maps! The review units were received very positively. We don't even know why there is a delay.

Stop listerning to these various people claiming to know when Apple will ship a product. ASK Apple, they know...
Yes, by all means, ask Apple because they have always been so forth coming with product release time lines in the past.
[doublepost=1478891969][/doublepost]
And if they had shipped them on time but not great you would have also written a eulogy.
My guess, yes.

i think the lack of physical commands ruins the whole purpose of being untethered to the phone. you need to return to the phone for basic tasks.
keep in mind that you won't be able to play/pause/skip/return without the following: grab the phone, raise to wake (if you have a 6s or newer) tap on play/pause/fwd/backwd, switch off the screen, put back the phone.

I think they are bleeding edge in regards to pairing and range, but sound quality? No.
I wish Apple would refocus Beats to concentrate on sound quality.

Yes, plus delaying to months later. For apple they are low numbers for a brand new device which they spent a ton on brand new R&D plus new hardware.

No, they aren't.

This is an ACCESSORY, not something new like an iPhone or iPad.

Show me sales of keyboards, mice, track pads, even beats headphones, to prove me wrong.
