That is exactly why. Tim Cook said so on the quarterly earnings phone call. He said they were making them as fast as they can.

Nonsense. Over many years you’ll have some sales numbers curve to look at of course. But what you are saying is mainly negativity for what? Just to spin some negativity?
iPad sales peaked for FY 2014. FY 2015 to 2018, iPad sales declined. FY 2019 is the first fiscal year in 4 years where the iPad lineup saw YoY growth and even then they’re still not near 2014 levels. That’s not negativity. That’s a fact

Another parody post?

iPad was just up almost 20% y/y.

Consumer Reports rank the Samsung earbuds significantly higher on quality and they are significantly more affordable. Choose wisely.

Choose wisely? [Whatever that means...] Don’t you think it makes complete sense that an iPhone user would choose the AirPods, whereas a Samsung user would choose the earbuds? (Rhetorical) Why would you even mention the Samsung earbuds in the first place based on a consumer report? I’m pretty sure the AirPods are successful enough where consumers aren't flocking to consumer reports, not when the AirPods traditionally have been popular since 2016.

Hated the original pods. These are much better.

I have a Note 10 and used the Samsung buds for two weeks. Honestly, they were awful. The AKG tuning is tinny and shallow. Bad stuff. I now use Amazon buds with my Note 10 . Much better. I use AirPods with my iPad and Mac. Even better.

very nice products, indeed.
And the Pro with noise filtering/canceling feature are THE worthy upgrade.

The bad is the unreplaceable battery, who makes it better to buy a new one and that will push the sales even higher..

That’s not the point though. You brought in the AirPods and attempted to spin some negative parallels.

iPad revenue was up 16% y/y for 2019. I never said iPad sold better than ever.

I know the numbers. I just said Apple put up nearly 20% y/y growth, which was correct.

Follow my posts. I know the data. iPad just put up the best numbers since 2015....it’s doing fine. The damn things last forever.

on a side note, I’d bet dollars to donuts that Apple AirPods are being used a lot by non-iPhone users. Just because they are that good - just because they are great “Bluetooth earbuds”. So you’ll find windows laptop users and Samsung phone people rocking Apple AirPods.

Can you name any Bluetooth wireless earbud that has a replaceable battery? Why would they be need to be ‘user replaceable’? I can guarantee you not one consumer that’s considering purchasing the AirPods thinks ‘Hmmm, I may not buy the Airpods since it doesn’t have a user replaceable battery.’

I love the AirPods. Point I was trying to get at was that I hope Apple does a better job of sustaining the success of the AirPods over the long-term vs the iPad lineup.

the main problem with CR is they ignore the actual qualitative differences between the platforms.

In any case, choosing wisely means choosing what works for you...not listening to other people.

‘Long term’? Then you haven’t been following the AirPods, because ‘sustaining’ the AirPods isn’t a problem, especially when they can’t even keep up with the demand in terms of manufacturing, even the first GEN AirPods when they launched in December 2016, you couldn’t get a pair until March 2017. And I’m not sure why you would even bring the iPad into this, that’s a core product, the AirPods are an accessory to the iPhone.

I used the iPad as an example because sales of that line grew really fast from 2010 to 2014. And then from 2014 to 2018 sales declined significantly. And the AirPods are not just an accessory. They have the potential to be Apple’s next big wearables platform

Well, I didn’t catch that point. To me it seemed like a tough comparison other than a possible future sales volume graph comparison between a computer and an accessory.

To speak to the iPad side of things - they are selling great, and someone just pointed out that they had double digit growth recently, but that doesn’t mean we should extrapolate to the moon about anything either. Sales have been fine.

As for AirPods - yeah sales are brisk :) But we don’t have to be worried that 3 years down the road we don’t (or won’t) have continued explosive growth do we?

People in general have a tough time fully comprehending growth, and doubling time related to % growth. So yeah, we all know this and that about iPad sales numbers, but what conclusions can someone show me here that cause me to think. I really like to think about stuff. I want something that causes me to change my views. Really. It isn’t this particular comparison - not at all. To be frank I found it to be a bit of the usual spin and that’s why I commented on it - in hopes that it could cause some other soul to ponder and think about what the important meaning is vs the fact based “noise”

And the AirPods are not just an accessory.

You compared the iPad and somehow shoehorned that to the AirPods, it was a poor comparison and shouldn’t be even related in that regard. The AirPods are an accessory (As is the Apple Watch), the iPad is a main core computing product for Apple. Two things are not mutually exclusive.

They have the potential to be Apple’s next big wearables platform

I’d say that’s pretty obvious, along side the Apple Watch and then Apples AR glasses. They Will all coincide with each other somehow in the future.

Nice but want a corded version of AirPods Pro...EarPods Pro?
They introduced “In Ear Headphones with Remote and Mic” back in September 2008. They didn’t ship until December. I was excited about those. They have both a woofer and a tweeter in each ear piece and sound really nice compared to the earbuds at the time. They sound much nicer that the EarPods and the AirPods. I couldn’t say how they compare sound wise to the new AirPods “Pro” but I’m sure they are comparable.
I think Apple discontinued these in the last year or so. For $80 they were nice. I had a couple sets, hopefully the cord doesn’t short out anytime soon on my current ones.

AirPod Pros extraordinary. They are
simply one for the best products Apple has ever produced. There is genuine magic in nearly every interaction. Bravo. I fell in love with Apple again because of the product.

In the end, the guys at Consumer Reports have opinions just like everyone else.

You can go to CNET where they give the Galaxy Buds 3.5 out of 5 stars and AirPods Pro 4.5 out of 5 stars. That doesn't make it right, it's just a different opinion.

Not sure why that forum member is comparing a tablet/computer with an accessory. In any case the iPad decline was mainly due to limitations of iOS and no clear path set by Apple. It was better than its competitors but did not mature outside from being a e-reader on steroids. APP is an accessory and I don’t see the connection comparing the two. These things last for two years if you are lucky and will have to replace it by then in which time a new model will be released.

AirPods don’t look like the easiest product to manufacture and assemble. Could be that Apple is already churning them out as quickly as they can and still can’t make enough to meet demand in the short term.
AirPods are objectively a poor/bad product (relative to what they cost), they're extremely easy to make (it's a tiny low quality driver encased in plastic, with a chip), and Apple is likely exaggerating demand for PR purposes.
[automerge]1574401313[/automerge]
How can Apple have underestimated demand for these? They are exactly the type of thing everyone with an iPhone is going to want for Christmas.
Not people who value their money.

This is one product where I believe replacing the battery is near impossible without breaking something if you can get it back together again.

Not sure why anyone would want to replace a battery on something so tiny.
