Newsflash: that's an accurate description. ;)
There is one problem though.
Who ordered "earbuds'?
This thread is about Airpods, not Earbuds (whatever you mean by earbuds):
News flash: Customers may receive ugly, bad sounding, buggy earbuds sooner than expected . . .
So your post is inaccurate and out of place for this topic.

I'm in the same boat as you. My status has changed from 4 to 2 weeks, but still says 1/12. I hope that changes.

Same. Except mine now says expedited shipping, instead of standard shipping.

Not that it makes a difference when the delivery date is the same!

Only the first page and the top rated messages are full of Apple hate. I'm surprised that "it may not be selling well" is missing.
Seriously though, if you are not being paid for tolling this site, why do you care so much about a company you don't like and products you will never buy?

wrong thread

Unfortuantly, this is what the internet has become in general. There are several forums I used to frequent and participate in daily that I hardly visit anymore because they have all been overrun by trolls and folks who seem to just hate life. It's sucks because i used to learn a lot from these forums and always enjoyed the constructive discussion. And my issue is not with those who are critical of Apple, I have many issues with them lately also, it's the fact that so many don't even try to bring meaningful dialog to the table anymore.

Some have stated the Siri controls are cumbersome and you have to double tap pretty hard. Others have said to Siri controls are fairly easy to tap. So I'm not sure what to believe you until I receive these. That said, technically the iPhone serves as an in-line control. But with my Apple Watch, I'd be interested to see how I can function with these combined.
You can adjust volume (at least for music) as you have done with the AW in the past. At least that is what I found in my ten minute trial. I didn't see the battery indicators that some mentioned, but I didn't play with it for very long (and admittedly wasn't looking for it).

They need to a better job with these estimates! I ordered mine (stated January delivery) and now they're shipping. However, I'm leaving town today and won't be back till January. It's like Apple believes we buy their **** and just sit by the door and wait for it to arrive.

That's exactly what I do!

From what I saw in the reviews, you can set the double tap to Pause/Play, or disable it altogether. Left/right tap sounds like a nice idea though.

Yep, you can. I was just stating how the sales guy was bragging about how I can enable Siri and my first response was, "yeah, I'd rather do ANYTHING else then ask Siri". So I changed it to play/pause, and that came in pretty handy. Also, removing an AirPod from either ear pauses it, so that's another intuitive feature. Stuff like this is what I missed from Apple.

My cat chewed up my Jaybird X2. I'll probably still get these again. I like physical volume controls, especially if my phone isn't quickly accessible. Plus the longer battery life.

So a question I have, if I do a store pickup order while it is showing a Feb delivery date, and the store gets new stock in, will I get one of those? The reason I ask is I have a pending order that shows a Feb 6 pickup date, but I am assuming my Apple store will be getting regular shipments well before then. The issue is my order confirm uses the words ship to store, which makes me think I am in the same line with everybody else that ordered for home delivery. Can anybody clarify this?

This should reduce some of the big prices on eBay. In the UK they were going for £320 now down to £220 today based on a couple of auctions that have ended.

And yet yesterday and today they were available to order for next day delivery to Carphone Warehouse stores! I knew I should have been a totally unscrupulous scalping git and ordered a few pairs!

Anybody here who can compare them to the in-ear EarPods? I own one pair as my travel earbuds when I don't have the space to take my big studio size headphones on the road. They block sound when I sit in the bus next to some noisy people pretty good, as well as blocking my music for the people next to me. How do the AirPods compare to the in-ear EarPods?

Also do they fit as comfortably and safely as the in ear EarPods?

It's as you stated. The ones being delivered to the store are for store resale (i.e., walk-ins).

I tested them for about ten minutes. If you are happy with the earpods you will be happy with these. They are basically earpods with the cords cut off. Now someone out there will probably say they are slightly different, and maybe they are, but to the naked eye they are basically the same. And they felt the same in the ear (I was surprised how light they were actually).

Earpods don't stay put when I sweat and since I almost exclusively use earbuds in the gym or while out running they were a no go. Especially at a $130 premium. I will be looking closely at third party products that help keep them in the ear, and if I find one I like I will test with earpods first.

Sound quality is basically the same. IMO 100% of the premium you pay for these has to do with the convenience of going wireless.

I thought that was extremely clever to indicate the battery life of the Airpods on the Apple Watch display. It Gives you a nice visual. You Can also ask Siri what your battery life for the AirPods is as well.

I'll give them a shot just to see if they work well with the Apple Watch. I've yet to find a pair of BT headphones that don't cut out while listening to music on the watch.

Don't say that to @Cuban Missles, or bring up the OG Apple Watch delivery times. He will literally murder you.

On topic: Under promise, over deliver is always a good thing. A former company I worked for always added 3 business days to their shipping estimates. Customers loved getting product early.
You, you just had to bring up that debacle of the Apple watch non-launch, didn't you. LOL.

I did get my AirPods on Monday the 19th, so that is good. Even if that is WAAAAAAAAAAY after the October release announced at the September event.

Apple used to have a little indicator at the top right of the screen. I think they did away with that at some point or another. It was handy for other bluetooth stuff as well. It would be nice to see power at a glance too. Siri has always been hit or miss for me (I did not try it at all on the airpods, to be fair), so that feature doesn't have me terribly enthusiastic. I have to imagine there is also some for of low power indication, but again, the time I had with the product was pretty limited. Basically enough to know that since I don't like earpods I won't like these.

My original delivery date was Jan.12. A couple days ago it changed to Jan.13. It is back to Jan.12 now. Lucky me.

My card was charged back on Tuesday and my status changed to Preparing for Shipment. However, Apple decided to put my AirPods on a ox drawn wagon and they are not scheduled to arrive until well after Christmas - Dec. 27th, rather than the original scheduled Dec. 29th. Glad I was able to order from Best Buy on Tuesday and have them scheduled for arrival today.

A set of hearing aid-style "headphones" that have to be charged up to use

Yeah they really should have utilized that infinite battery technology that other wireless earphone manufacturers are using.

Seriously? We're talking about WIRELESS HEADPHONES, and one of the negative things you bring up is "you have to charge them"? Hilarious.
