I would hope so, but don't hold your breath. If they are pushing wireless charging tech, which it seems like they are, then it seems like the logical choice, but we all know how Apple is with their accessories.

It really is the only choice. But that merits the question, of why do they not say that it is the default case whenever it is available. Just avoid the unnecessary wagging of tongues.

£69 just to get a wireless charging feature is ridiculous. That'll mean your total outlay on the AirPods would be £159 + £69 = £228. Insane! But then again, we already knew the price of the wireless charging case would be ridiculous anyways.
Of course you forgot the AirPower Wireless Charging Pad itself (price still unknown), which won't come with the necessary 2m Lightning Cable (£29) and 12W Power Adapter (£19) included. That's if you can afford an iPhone in the first place.

Just wait for next year's iPads with glass backs and wireless charging. The AirPower accessory that will charge those iPads will probably cost 249 USD.

Excuse me for my ignorance, but why won’t these specific bands allow the watch to charge wirelessly?

I didn't say it wouldn't allow it, I said it won't be as easy because they don't lay flat like the sport band, leather straps, etc because they don't come apart—they loosen. You have to pop the strap off when you want to charge it on a flat mat.

Just detach one end of the band from the watch? Maybe this doesn't meet your definition of easily, but it wouldn't be that hard to do.

Do you own the Link Bracelet? First of all, you can't just take one side off. You have to take both sides off. Why? Because it's rigid. You have to slide them off together. They're already a little more tricky to take off because the band is in the way while you're trying to depress these tiny buttons. Although I suppose you could pop the button on one of the links to separate it in the middle, but I'd be worried about that wearing out the mechanism over time as it's probably not designed to be removed at that point 1-2 times per day. The Milanese Loop would be easier because you can take off one side because it has more give in the metal mesh of the strap.

Is this an assumption on your part, or did you read this somewhere?

See above. The straps get in the way. As I told others previously, the Link Bracelet hovers above by an inch or so when you set it down. The Milanese Loop lays flatter, but there is metal and a magnetic clasp in the way which might interfere. There may be a way to charge if they're on their side, but the way I understand these power mats work is that the receiver needs to be parallel with the charging surface. I'm not sure if they could make a receiver strip small enough to charge the Apple Watch on it's side. Furthermore, they'd need to make extra room for it, and they're already cramped. It's an assumption based on the logic of the situation and what I know about how these chargers work and the bands I own. I'd love to be proven wrong. It's not impossible, it's just more of an annoyance to remove your band each time you want to charge it flat. It's why the Apple Watch charger was designed to slide under like it does. It's small for a reason.

The miracles of wireless charging!

You need:
#1 - An AC adapter that plugs into the wall.
#2 - A Lightning power cable.
#3 - A wireless charging mat.
#4 - A charging case.

So much easier than just plugging your devices into the wall.
Or, you know, any other pair of headphones that just gets power by virtue of being plugging into something else that has power.

or you know if you travel a lot and become tired of bringing 2x-3x iphone chargers, two lightning cables, one apple watch cable and then you arrive at the hotel in japan only to see one outlet available.

Why do you people keep supporting apple by buying this overpriced crap!? Vote with your wallets people! That case should be no more then $15. Just like charging cables and dongles should be no more then $5.
NOONE needs wireless. It's bringing laziness to the next level. Because plugging in a cable is so hard. /s

I don’t agree about them being $15. However they should probably sell a single AirPod for $53 and the case for the same. I more return or replacement program you just buy the piece you need.

If you had to buy all three that’s $159. Nobody could quibble about that.

They should make the pencil work wireless charge too.
And a small "adapter" puc (like apple watch charging magnet) for use with older watches also.
And an apple wireless charge casing for older phones

People love to complain about this stuff, but for the beautiful designs and ease of use of these products, I personally don't mind paying a premium. This is all paving the way for even more advanced wireless charging technologies. Considering Apple is "working closely with Qi", in ten years I have no doubt we'll be able to charge our phones wirelessly with the "hub" across the room. We all low-key hate cables ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's more like paving Apple's way to the bank.

Glad to see this improvement, but I do have one design gripe with the case... Why not allow extra space on top, so that a person can leave silicon grip covers over the ear portion of the airpods? For $5-10 those make all the difference in the world for keeping earbuds securely in one's ears. They also help port the sound closer, improving the balance of sound.

Surely all new AirPods will come with the wireless charging case... surely?

This is the question! I haven't got AirPods, but I want some. I'm not sure whether to buy now, or to wait. If the charging case is included by default, I'd wait. If it is not included by default, there wouldn't be any point in waiting; I wouldn't pay extra for it. The ambiguity's problematic.

of course not. This is Apple we're talking about. Airpods will still come with the standard charger and if you want the wireless charger you're gonna have to fork over the dough.

A wireless case to charge up wireless headphones.. Whodda thunk it!?

I can live with this. I was worried it was going to be a lot more. £50 is OK, can maybe sell the charging case on eBay for £10. Would be really nice if Apple allowed us to trade in the case for a new one at a discount.

But then again, I'm not buying the iPhone X anymore so maybe there's not much point.
