The TV is nowhere near where I have my routerThey're not halting development. They're instead working on unified Siri/iCloud/Apple TV/router devices competing with Google Home and Amazon Echo.
I don't like that strategy, but we as customers have our vision for the company and I guess it is easy for us to complain and to judge. I do complain a lot of time, but I'm not managing the company and profits are terrific, that's what the board of directors and investors care about. I'm not sure they care about the long run.
Their main source of money today is iOS devices, and iOS relies mainly on iCloud.
Latest macOS version synchronise stuff to iCloud (I believe it is the Document folder, I don't use the feature), and that's the first step into moving everything there.
More profits, more people bound to their ecosystem. I agree with you, that's sad for me and could take me away from the company so sad for them as well, but we "loyal" Mac users are now a minority of their customer base.
I'm sorry, but if you think having the most powerful and efficient mobile SoC on the market today is not innovation, then I'm glad you are not working for Apple. They can't and they haven't been for some time. The Mac Pro is languishing, the rest of the Mac line-up receives mediocre updates with outdated specs, customers are leaving in droves. Meanwhile Apple is focusing on diversity & harmony, being a fashion company, parading exec's around to do damage control for their hardware mistakes (see Phil Schiller recently) and designing "Minimalist" Christmas, scuse me, Holiday decorations and self-indulgent photobooks.
This is the first time I've ever felt legitimate outrage over an Apple announcement.
At the discontinuation of Displays, they announced LG as an alternative. With this, no alternatives or suggestions at all.
I see lots of scary complaints about all off brand routers and none of them include a Time Machine drive as far as I can tell.
Our Time Capsule is getting old and I am not sure what to do.
Interesting. I have found my Netgear Nighthawk performs much better than my Time Capsule. The problem with this survey is that it encompasses the $49 special that you can buy at Wal-Mart, which drags the scores down for others I am sure. The Nighthawk was as expensive as an Airport Extreme, but the range is much better and has not needed a reboot in almost a year now.
Exactly. It's like Apple Pay, so many people still don't know what it is despite this being advertised by Apple. Every time I pay with my phone people in line or the cashier thinks it's some sort of app you download through your bank. You may know this, but many Mac users don't. Apple don't communicate this, so it is an issue.
the one more thing is a train wreck. Only steve jobs can do that and it's jumped the shark.Apple Press Release

Starting at the first Apple event this year, we will have a "One More Thing..." at the end. Not only that, we will have one at every Apple event this year! That's right, the iPad event, WWDC, the iPhone event and the Mac event will have "One More Things..." as well! Only this year, we will be announcing a beloved product we will no longer be manufacturing. Just wait until you see who we are partnering with to make our stuff! 2017 will be magical!
For $500 I would hope eero is better. This is a bit misleading. Apple router ranks highest among the old technology routers. They should include eero and other mesh networking routers. WAY BETTER experience. I know, I switch from Apple routers to mesh and am super happy. I still have the time capsule for backup, but disabled the wifi router component.

Well, what kind of update would you need from a router? This "old" version still supports 802.11ac and gigabit ethernet. Until a faster wireless standard is finalized, there's really nothing else to add frankly.I've been waiting FOREVER for an update to this model since the current one is 3 years old.
When I heard this news a couple days ago I went out and bought one.
SO SAD!
That's hard to believe.
You can't even configure it from a Windows PC which makes up 90% of PCs.
Which would be 100% stupid.
If Apple gets to that point again like they did back in the day, I wonder what they would do next. You can't turn back to Steve Jobs this time. The board NEEDS to remove Tim Cook before it's too late.
Apple under Jobs was something else. Tim has been "succeeding" off his legacy, however as Job's magic is drying up, so is Apple.
The man is a liability with no vision. No charisma. No passion. Nothing.

True, but as consumers we can at least judge the products and their trends. They are not good. iPhone 7 is just an iPhone6++ without a jack. MBP with touchbar is a laughingstock especially for that price point. Remaining Macs lineup is struggling. Apple Watch is allright, but not the next "big thing". iCloud is so and so. Apple TV 4... i like it but it's far from 'good'. iPads... I love my 12" but I don't see the need for separating between iPad and iPad Pro. Siri is way behind.
It's NOT good.
It wouldn't be so stupid if Apple offered more iCloud storage for free. Like, buy a 1TB Mac, get 1TB iCloud included, or buy 128GB iPhone, get 128GB free.
They certainly won't be forcing me. I don't ever really intend to rely on anything but my local network and storage. This makes me sad. I'm guessing they will force us to use iCloud Storage to back up our files in the future.
