It boggles the mind that some people think Apple will sell more of something if it's not available for purchase.

But it is available for purchase just not for immediate delivery (and no one knows if that delivery shortfall is real or contrived) - BUT with the Cult of Apple that's OK, just as long as they get that Jet Black iPhone 7s ... sometime.

I re-read the article. It does not say that there will be no 7+, it only says LIMITED supply. The PREORDERS are sold out though. Which is what we already knew.

They recommend trying the carrier stores. Since I still have an active pre-order, I have nothing to lose but time.

Incorrect. The article says PREORDERS are sold out and the 7+'s are in LIMITED supply (with the exception of JB). So basically, nothing has changed.
You should read it again.

During the online pre-order period, initial quantities of iPhone 7 Plus in all finishes and iPhone 7 in jet black sold out and will not be available for walk-in customers

As an Apple guy since 1978, I'm now sick to death of Apple's annual BS narrative:
new phone/24-hour sell out/"short supply" excuse/wait until November.
Wash, rinse, repeat ....
Aren't you sick of it too?

Lol I used to work at an Apple reseller. I clean it Everyday and our cloth isn't exactly clean. And you have no idea how many people touches it Everyday. And yet it's scratch free

There is a big difference between something that sits on a desk and gets dust and fingerprints on it and then is gently cleaned with a cloth VS something that is *always* handled, often abused.

I have owned every iPhone and have found that the only cases that keep it from having dirt ground into it are either an Otterbox type or the Apple Leather case with the soft lining and only if you pull the case off and clean the dirt out of it once and awhile.

I ordered my 7+256 right when the starting gates flew open...I could have got the jet black but went straight for the matte black without hesitation. I think that phone with the Apple leather case on it will be just like my 6 128 4.7" is now, pretty much brand new looking.

But who knows, maybe the jet black will actually hold up really well overall. My 5 looked great when I parted with it.

I'd like to try to understand your reasoning on this, the article clearly says that no Plus Models will be available for Walk-Ins on Friday:

"limited quantities of iPhone 7 in silver, gold, rose gold, and black will be available for walk-in customers at Apple retail stores. During the online pre-order period, initial quantities of iPhone 7 Plus in all finishes and iPhone 7 in jet black sold out and will not be available for walk-in customers."

Under-production of the devices for the headlines once again.

I bet they do this every year but it seems like this year they under produced on their under production if that makes any sense. they underestimated demand it looks like. which is not completely their fault since you can't account for a major competitor putting exploding batteries in their flagship phone

Cue in the first world whiners, complaining and moaning that they cannot give Apple their money.

If the first world, the giver of modern day life to the world, stinks so much,
what's keeping you from leaving, Mr. SJW Of the Year?

I'd be more than happy to facilitate that by buying you a one-way first-class ticket
to the 3rd world toilet of your choice. Heck, I"ll even throw in extra wifi usage.

Just keep everything transparent and clear and then there's no need for speculation, interpretation, all the facts just stand.

I completely disagree. If they are transparent and clear, there will be TONS of speculation and interpretation. Even if they sold out of their iPhone 7/7+ stock, but their supply was 25% lower than last year, they sold fewer phones. This will start the speculation of "Apple is doomed" or "Apple sales slow from last year", etc. etc. regardless of demand. I could come up with tons of examples of how that number could be spun by the media or whoever.

And was this officially put out by who? I have seen NO official press release from Apple.

There's nothing to dispute if Apple are transparent and clear.
Accuracy and truth is required here, not what you're suggesting.

https://9to5mac.com/2016/09/15/iphone-7-plus-and-jet-black-iphone-7-sold-out/

Apple issued the official statement to 9to5mac this morning:

"Apple has issued a statement advising that it has completely sold out of the Jet Black iPhone 7 and allversions of the iPhone 7 Plus, thanks to pre-orders. It adds that ‘limited quantities’ of other finishes of the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 will be available to walk-in customers tomorrow.

We couldn’t be happier with the initial response to iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, and we are looking forward to beginning sales through our retail stores and partners around the world.

Beginning Friday, limited quantities of iPhone 7 in silver, gold, rose gold, and black will be available for walk-in customers at Apple retail stores. During the online pre-order period, initial quantities of iPhone 7 Plus in all finishes and iPhone 7 in jet black sold out and will not be available for walk-in customers. Availability at partner locations for all finishes may vary and we recommend checking directly with them.

Customers can continue to order all models in all colors on apple.com. We sincerely appreciate our customers’ patience as we work hard to get the new iPhone into the hands of everyone who wants one as quickly as possible.

In Australia, staff have been breaking the news to those waiting in line at Apple Stores, informing them that not even those at the head of the line would be able to buy a 7 Plus. It handed out AUS$100 ($75) gift cards to those in line at a Sydney store by way of apology."

Well considering this is the 11th iPhone Apple has made and that the company is run by a supply chain guru this lack of stock of all plus models and jet black models seems to me like poor planing.

yeah because being a supply chain guru gives you a crystal ball to see that one of your major competitors is going to have an exploding battery scandal in their flagship phone......

Interesting how some supply chain analysts give Apple praise for recovering so quickly from the issue that delayed the product for the Apple Watch launch.

http://www.sdcexec.com/article/12080764/apple-a-supply-chain-model-of-excellence
She went out and said that it was a whole new experience for receiving a product from Apple - Order online, don't bother coming to the store, and wait forever at home. It would have been better to say - hey we are having problems with the haptic engine and we are going to delay launch by a month. That would be understandable and forgivable. Lying and diversion - NO. Same here. If they are producing more than last year, but demand is truly that large, then fine. But I am suspicious, that they had issues that meant they are short on supply which is why they will not publish first weekend sales numbers.

Seeing that you're so adamant about it, what evidence do you have that they intentionally control supply to drum up demand and hype?
You really think, that Apple has no clue whatsoever about how many iPhones are projected to sell in the first week, or first month, first quarter, whol fiscal year? What do you think Tim Cook is running over there, a lemonade stand? they "run out" of fresh iphones every single year, the lines are always bigger than the available iphones and TV cameras are always filming this big lines and peple waitinh for their iphones. So yeah, when you consider all the facts the answer is yes - they intentionally control supply to drum up demand and hype.

I was kind of hoping that there would be an extra 128GB Jet or matte Black lying around that I could pick up for my grandpa since everything got screwed up when I tried to order his on launch night, but the chances of that very popular model being available were slim to begin with. There's always a chance that people preordered two and decided they didn't want one, so it still doesn't hurt to ask. I'm also kind of starting to regret my Jet Black decision after reading the reviews. It looks slick as hell in all the hero shots but in reality it sounds like a hassle. Maybe someone there will trade me?

Called my local Apple Store. Asked specifically if there would be no 7 Plus available Friday. He said "we know nothing of that...as far as we know we will have some, but we suggest you get here early"

The best marketing there is. Make sure the supply is just too tight.

Why do people keep repeating this dumb statement? The fact is, it's hard to make 20 million iPhones in three weeks. And Apple isn't making 20 million iPhones in 3 weeks.

This video just went live as well,

Once again claiming no iphone 7 Plus will be sold to Walk-ins on friday morning at all

256gb jet black iPhone 7 Plus is the one I would get if I wasn't going to LG V20. I like the idea of having an extra gig of RAM, dual cam, and better battery life. If it was the regular 7, it would be matte black but 256gb as well. I think the jet black on the 7+ hides the Wall-E camera better. Jet black 7 Plus most sought after models...

I am surprised how popular the Plus models have become. I didn't think it would outnumber the 4.7 in sales this soon. I remember it being a smaller percentage back in 2014. The Plus models do have their perks. I hope it sells like hot cakes. Another record breaking year for Apple. Then another record breaking next year.

Easier for me to pick up gadgets that nobody wants but I know deep down have tremendous quality. Let the iPhone 7 hoopla continue...

Thanks Captain Negative. People like you amaze me. Even when Apple is kicking ass, you have something to say. I cannot imagine what it must be like to be you, trolling Apple forums just to post your insightful diatribe. No wonder most of the Android forums are a non event, you're all hear spewing out your hate. It's quite funny really.
People like that...
Some people are so narrowminded they see the world in black and white and attack others for the smallest reasons. That's not even funny really. I bet most of those criticizing Apple love and care about it more than those praising any stupidity "kicking ass" Apple happens to do these days. BTW, never owned an Android and many people here (except those who were were busy checking Android forums) know Apple had production issues with iPhone 7 and that explains the serious shortages.

So cut the juvenile crap, there’s no call for it and you just come off as immature and pathetic. I didn’t claim to be better than anyone, just sharing my opinion on the company and you’re just an ass.
