Apple has issued a statement to a number of press outlets including TechCrunch, indicating that all models of the iPhone 7 Plus as well as the Jet Black iPhone 7 have completely sold out ahead of Friday's launch and will not be available at Apple's retail stores. The announcement will help those who had hoped to purchase one of those models on a walk-in basis on Friday plan appropriately. As Apple notes, it is possible that other retailers may have some stock of these models, but given that Apple prioritizes its own sales channels over other retailers, customers should not count on being able to find them elsewhere.

Apple announced last Thursday that it will not release first-weekend sales numbers for the iPhone 7, and given quickly slipping shipping estimates in Apple's online stores and extreme shortages of in-store stock for launch day, it appears early sales will be heavily constrained by supply rather than any weakness in demand.

What a world some of you must live in. When did purchasing an iPhone on launch day become an inalienable right? You act as if Apple "owes" you a device, or even an explanation. Apple is a corporation, not your friend. It owes you nothing, other than the product/service you purchase from them with your money. Apple's sole purpose is to make money, and in turn raise the price of their stock to benefit shareholders. If you think they exist to do something other than that, then maybe you should buy an S7...

So who do we believe? the 9to5mac Article that claims they received a press message from Apple or the Apple representative from apple.com ?(could it be the representative from apple.com was not informed yet?)

You could call/chat back in and get a totally different answer. I don't think the people you get on chat/phone are all on teh same page, about the iPhone 7 releases and in general. More often than not, if I have an issue, I call/chat in multiple times until I get someone who actually knows what they are talking about.

Last year, the Rose Gold Plus was sold out everywhere we looked on launch day. Within 10 days, we were able to reserve one in the Apple Store and take it home. They will catch up on in-store stock.

Yeah i mean its like who do we believe? the apple chat support or the macrumors article claiming apple made an official press statemnt saying no Plus models will be sold to walkins

I emailed Tim Cook this morning and heard back from Alexandra Dias. She works in the Online Store Executive Relations department. I was trying to get my 7+ color switched and she told me it wouldn't be possible because the only 7+ stock they'll have will be for reservations only. There will be no extras for changes or walk-ins.

She went out and said that it was a whole new experience for receiving a product from Apple - Order online, don't bother coming to the store, and wait forever at home. It would have been better to say - hey we are having problems with the haptic engine and we are going to delay launch by a month. That would be understandable and forgivable. Lying and diversion - NO.
I don't disagree with your suggestion on how they could have handled the launch better, I just think it's slightly ridiculous (based on previously bungled launches that predate her) to expect that Apple would have handled the delay launch any other way, or that the newest member to Apple's Executive team created the retail aspects of the AW launch in a silo and therefore should be the whipping child for that launch (and every future launch that doesn't go per usual).

You really think Cook, Shiller, etc were in the dark until launch day and then were like "HOLY HELL, WHAT HAS ANGELA DONE?!?!?" Based on every article I've read on how Apple works at the executive level, that's not how it goes.

If anything, I'd be inclined to believe that she, as the newbie, would have been for delaying the launch, and it would have been the business-as-usual executives (Cook, etc) that pushed for the "try/buy at the store, we'll ship it to you" launch instead of flat-out saying "crap, problems with manufacturing, we have no product for the launch date we told you about". There would be zero understanding or forgiving in terms of media coverage for that. So roll with Plan B and pretend that's what you meant to do all along...

you're right i completely forgot about the iPhone 5c, as did most consumers considering the lackluster sales.:D
From what I understand, 5c sales were only lackluster compared to other iPhones...that they actually did quite well in the marketplace. My favorite iPhone!

I've pre-ordered virtually every phone I could, and the few times I didn't pre-order I camped out and always got the phone I wanted. It's a bit frustrating to know that I'm going to have to wait 10 days after the phone launches to actually receive my phone. It's very much a first world problem and I'll get over the butt hurt, but I do wish there was a way to ensure a launch day delivery for whatever phone you wanted, even if it came at a cost. After being sued for the fiasco with the Upgrade Program this year, I've curious to see what changes apple will make to the pre-order process going forward.

I wonder if Apple's stocks plummet after this announcement
Why on earth would that happen?

There's nothing to dispute if Apple are transparent and clear.
Accuracy and truth is required here, not what you're suggesting.

You're saying none of what I suggested would happen if Apple released sales figure that were lower than the 6s? I think a lot of people, myself included would disagree.

The only time Apple is obligated to be clear and transparent is during their quarterly calls when they release sales figures. Other than that, they can pick and choose, regardless of what you or I want them to do.

This is hilarious. People whipping out their Jump to Conclusions mats to conclude that if something is sold it, then it must have sold in unprecedented numbers!

How do you know Apple didn't sell out Jet Black iPhones because they blew through an inventory of 10,000?

Everybody who played with the idea of perhaps, maybe, getting the iPhone 7 was assured by every online outlet (incl. this one) that it would be a total stinker, and they therefore thought that this might be the first time ever they'd get a new iPhone on launch day. And now this. Who's to blame? Apple of course...

Nobody knows what kind of inventory there is. Apple might be dealing with a fraction of the phones they had on previous launch days. All speculation.
