Release sales figures Apple for all models! SOLD OUT can mean a whole bunch of things. Be transparent.

Unsurprising black has been popular considering fans have been without a black model since iPhone 5.

I don't really think they need any hype to sell these phones. People are going to order them regardless.

Sales figures would settle this debate. And guess what, Apple have come out and said they will not release the sales figures. So hype sounds about right, given the facts on hand.

When you go on the pre-order page of Apple's website, it says the following;

Pre-order now. Or buy at an Apple Store beginning September 16.

Doesn't that mean they will have a reserve for walk-ins for those who didn't pre-order???

Exactly.

I personally expected the Jet Black to sell out because it was the color they featured pretty much nonstop during the keynote, but with them doing that you would think Apple would have done a better job prepping for the number of sales that would come for that color. Even with a supposed shorter supply than normal this year, you would think they would have made more of the color they knew was going to be in high demand. Did they learn nothing from the white iPhone 4 fiasco?

It really never changes with you guys and your fictional theory. Same thing was said even when Apple sold 13 million phones on the first weekend. Limited supply, hype, blah blah blah.

The alternative is that there won't be enough supply to meet the sales records of past years, which would obviously look bad for Apple. It's not like people will delve into why the sales weren't as high (lack of supply) they will only see the numbers themselves and then speculate wildly, of course.

The fact that these are not available in stores I think is a direct result of the iPhone upgrade program issues. Apple likely had to use their in-store stock to make up the difference.

That said, I have a Rose gold iPhone 7Plus and a jet black iPhone 7 both coming on launch day.

(If anyone wants to make an offer, I may be willing to sell and ship express to you).
that's exactly what happened...all off us in the upgrade program were able to reserve today...and now everything is sold out...I'm just glad I got my iphone

I don't think Apple lies about numbers or any thing of that such, but I do believe they are smart enough to know there will be supply issues like this and purposely continue production without specifically addressing it. What their exact reasons are I don't know, but when you see poll numbers and talk to people about what they ordered and see the overwhelming number of people saying iPhone 7 Plus, the same way it has been the past two launches with the plus, it just doesn't make sense for them to not produce much higher quantities of them. I am referring to pre-orders with this and not overall sales, just as an FYI. I understand over time the smaller model outsells the plus largely due to price.

Apple seems to have listened to the Internet rumors about the demand for this gen not being there because everyone is waiting for the 10th anniversary phone and scaled down production.

Looks like they should have just kept on keeping on and done what they always do. It's funny in a way and proof that the headphone jack issue is purely a very vocal minority making a big stink.

I doubt that bitching and moaning on the internet had any effect on their supply line.

Unless it was intentional.

I'd say that the short supply of iPhones is a 'calculated' decision. Not just about generating hype, but also due to the scheduling of their announcement and release dates, and what factory yields they can get in a short amount of time while keeping a lid on leaks. Secrecy is a big factor and so is people not buying existing phones between the time new ones are announced and when they're available. They keep all this tight so don't have much time to crank out the units.

All we are asking for is sales figures. It's what happens when you are analytical over faithful ;)

You think it's hype them just making it up??? I would think it would be posted on Apple's website

I don't think these websites will just make this up but... how exactly did they receive this news? I cannot find this anywhere on Apples website or official feeds. Did Apple contact tech crunch directly? Seems a bit weird.
