Unless, you know, Samsung phones started to set the world on fire.
Huh?? ?? ???

I think Apple would rather sell more iPhones. I personally never believed that Apple intentionally ever creates shortages.
probably to bring in more interest by limiting it....selling apple plan as way to get that phone...maybe.

You sold a 128GB iPhone for $1,580? You knowingly ripped that person off, massively. How do you sleep at night?
supply/demand? Its his business. Ethic doesn't apply to this type of situation. People just want it.

And what are you going to do with them?

I thought it was clear. The sales figures will tell us how well the iPhone 7 performs to previous models.

Cause.......a bunch of people here are waving the Pom poms due to said iPhone being sold out. Sold out means jack to be honest, if the supply is constrained.

So based on "sold out" you could have sold 10 or 10 million...

Sales figures are facts, sold out is a status.

But if supply is constrained how can you compare to last year if they don't have iphones to sell even if there could be more people wanting to buy one than last year.

They probably just gave all the in store stock to the IUP group. I'm not sure how anyone is silly enough to believe that either there will be no jet black phones sold Friday or that Apple intentionally is limiting its revenue for hype. Hype is great and all, but hype is supposed to lead to more profit. If you can't sell your product, you make less profit. And who the hell was like "oh damn, everyone must be getting this, so I should wait until November and get one now too even though I didn't want an iPhone 7!" Probably fewer people than will pass because of the hassle.

But if supply is constrained how can you compare to last year if they don't have iphones to sell even if there could be more people wanting to buy one than last year.

So.... from the sales figures, you will find out two things

1. Apple has sold equal or greater units compared to previous years : sold out means iPhone 7 is a success

2. Apple has sold less than last years units : sold out means , apple messed up supply , sucess iPhone 7 is unknown .

Now in both scenarios , the difference of units sold compared to last year will tell is how successful the iPhone 7 or how much supply was constrained.

If it's scenario 2 , we cannot work out the success of iPhone 7 cause apple under supplied compared to previous year. Under scenario 1, I am taking more units sold to previous year to be a success criteria, both years the phone sold out

Just trying to work out what sold out means, using simple analysis based on this years and last years figures.

Well considering this is the 11th iPhone Apple has made and that the company is run by a supply chain guru this lack of stock of all plus models and jet black models seems to me like poor planing.

A supply chain guru (as you put it), can only ensure supplies for forecasted demand. If that forecasted demand is greater then what was forecasted, then any type of guru wouldn't have helped... A lot of the Macrumors member are PR gurus, they can put a negative spin on any news and vice versa !

But I genuinely thought the iPhone 7 and 7+ wouldn't sell as much as previous models (even though I know that there were people who would upgrade from older models).

Apple bandwagon rolls on !!!

I am curious if the IUP changes had any impact on people that had phones on order already. Apple typically is faster than projected with their shipping so I am wondering is some people that had shipping dates within afed days of the launch that actually would have received a phone within a day or two of launch had those phones thrown into general stock to be sent to stores instead. Apple could potentially do that and still ship the phones on order by the predicted date instead of early like in the past.

My favorite photo seems to come in handy right now.... Lol, I guess i'll settle for matte black then.

Unless it was intentional.

Makes me wonder if they sold out of the Plus models due to pulling stock for the iPhone upgrade program reported by Macrumors earlier today.

And not to mention the Plus model is the most popular as well with the dual camera.

Calculate how many sales are lost by missed opportunity - e.g. potential IP7 buyers going over to the competition (which will be few, as the news-cycle is blasted with Samsung recall (true or not, I don't care)), compared to the increase sales (over the longer term) and expectation caused by staying in the daily (main-stream) news cycle "IP7 is sold out everywhere" -> consumer thinks this is some great update over the last phone.

Bottom line, Apple would probably sell more phones in total with the JB IP7 sold out due to under-production (planned or otherwise), even if it means waiting a month or two for most buyers.

If you don't think that businesses manipulate the sales-channels with those cost/benefits analyses, well, then you don't know business.

Is this just America or is this the worldwide situation?

If it's worldwide I'm really surprised especially given the massive price hikes in the EU/UK as a lot of people feel they are getting less phone (headphone jack/Old design) for more money.
We've heard this "a lot of people think" line a lot in the U.S. from one of our Presidential candidates.

Possibly Apple had fewer iPhone 7's manufactured based on the common wisdom of blog commenters that no one was going to want this model, but it turned out that the blog commenters weren't so wise after all.

I tend to think that the Jet Black finish and the dual camera really are supply constrained due to being more difficult to manufacture, just as the first generation of TouchID devices was supply-constrained.

So perhaps Samsung made up this exploding battery story in order to make the Samsung phones seem harder to get.

I am furious that Apple has let this happen. Of course, I wasn't going to buy an Iphone 7: It's the principle of the thing.LOL

Funny thing is, people are terrified of the note 7 battery exploding and causing a fire.....in a country with 300 million guns....

That sums it up nicely.

People fear air travel, but are competely comfortable in their highly dangerous daily car commute.

It's just not rational; similarly, an exploding phone is one of the scariest things ever, because you typically sleep next to your charging phone.

I believe the full scope of what is happening to Samsung right now is not fully understood yet; this will have very deep consequences, starting from Apple caught pants down with an unpredicted surge of orders for their new phones.

At least this will strain the black market scalpers from taking away from the experience of who actually want the iPhone.

But hey, the scalpers will have plenty of options of the 6s Plus in 32 GB.
