The more I look at this in profile, the more I think we're looking at the next iMac.

Scale the iPad's squared out body up to 27" and have it floating on an arm and base like the new iPad keyboard, with ports on either side. This floating arrangement would make it possible to lower the screen to an angled drawing position with Pencil support.

Whether the next iMac is even a Mac or if it's instead a desktop iPad running iPad OS with this new touchpad cursor system, is another point entirely.

Maybe, but it would be much better if they went the Microsoft way and had a non-attached keyboard. An attached keyboard on an iMac would be a bad idea IMO.

'All New 2020 iPad Pro Models Feature 6GB RAM and Ultra Wideband Chip'

Where are the Apple Tags? Come on Apple.

The people who need a desktop or laptop environment will use a desktop or laptop respectively. No one is getting a phone and plugging it into an external monitor setup to replicate a desktop because it’s going to prove more cumbersome compared to the former, especially if this is going to be a long-term arrangement. It’s just not how people work.

As for the people who are using tablets to get meaningful work done, it makes sense to use the device with the larger app ecosystem, the more responsive touchscreen and the OS guaranteed of better support by its manufacturer.

It’s really about using the best tool the for job, and Dex simply isn’t it, no matter what angle I look at.

Yet... when phones become fast enough and the wireless connectivity good enough, they'll become the new laptop and the "docking" will be a screen/trackpad/keyboard shell were you place your phone close enough.

Android devices have much more advanced OS that let the users run multiple apps comfortably just like on a desktop. Samsung's DeX is an example. That said, most of this RAM is used by the apps not by OS. What we have is that the apps on Samsung phones have more memory in their disposal than the apps on iPad Pros which are supposed to be used for productivity.

More like it has tons of bloat and can’t optimise like IOS can.

Even now a 4GB is very close to Samsung new 16GB when it comes to ram

mini LED is on the way, end of this year or early next. Hopefully it also brings the A14X and 8GB RAM because I can see it being priced in myrrh...

mini led is just local dimming zones on the existing LCD, i'll be an improvement, but doesn't come close to OLED (The XDR has a myriad of issues like local blooming and requires cooling). God knows how long uLED is away, probably multiple years.

I’m going to assume the new models have increased rigidity from all the bending issues the previous model had. Waiting for a tear down to show some internal bracing making this much more solid.
kind of similar to the iPhone 6 bending problem was fixed with the 6s.
My 12.9" 1TB Wi-Fi-celluar iPad is as flat as the day I purchased it which is flat, the bending occurred because people dont realise thin big rectangular slabs made of aluminium which are hollow ish and covered in very thin glass bend easily, also I imagine some bracing may be added as you say but it will still bend as its still a large thin thing made of aluminium with very thin glass.

Is there an Android website we can go to to talk about iOS and iPadOS things, since it seems many of the people here are Android people who want to come and say how great Android is. I mean, I don't use Android and I wouldn't normally go to an Android website, but it looks like many here aren't iOS users, yet feel the need to come and talk about Android. So I figure any real iOS talk is over there?

I don't know how much of an issue that every really was and it certainly wasn't on the level of the iPhone 6 fiasco. I've had mine since day 1 and its remained totally flat with zero bending. I know it was an issue for some people, but I don't think it was rampant across that product line or it would have been more widely covered.

XDR is not mini-LED. Also, the cooling has nothing to do with the local dimming.

I have my 2018 iPad Pro and thinking about upgrading. Can anybody confirm that the new iPad will give me a lot of flexibility just like the one I own (mine can fold in half)?

Unless you are really into things like heavy video editing and AR, and take a lot of pictures on your iPad, I have zero idea on why you'd want to upgrade. If you do then yes its worth it, if not, Apple in no way made this a compelling upgrade to those who own the 2018 iPad Pro.

Mini LED is much more than just local dimming.

OLED screens are very limited when it comes to their peak brightness as the screens deminish over time is pushed too bright. While in comparison you can drive mini LED screens much brighter without negative effects and the HRD experience would be totally amazing. Smaller LED's mean much more controlled local dimming so blacks can get to similar levels as OLED but also have super bright whites as we get in traditional LED but without the blooming. The XDR is a more tradition FALD LED screen and why it goes to 1600nits but also why it suffers blooming.

When the 12.9 iPad Pro gets miniLED (and possibly a bigger screen) it will be a massive update.

I’ve needed an iPad for 4 years. Too bad it’s the price of LAPTOPS. The wait continues.

Wait, so you ‘needed’ an iPad for four years and nothing they have manufactured over this time frame has appealed to you in terms of price? (I’m sure you realize Apple has entry-level iPads/mid tier iPads that are well under this price point?) And you can’t find something within four years?

Respectfully, My thinking might be, maybe you just can’t afford an iPad in general, but I think Apple has made their lineup expanded with more affordable price points across the board, but if you can’t find something within that timeframe of four years, then maybe you should consider something other than an Apple product.

The phone already is the computer in your pocket. I see no point in carrying around a laptop shell for the docking of a phone, when I would probably be better off just carrying a laptop by itself. Sure, maybe that laptop dock will be much cheaper, but if I am an employer invested in boosting the productivity of my workers, it makes sense to just invest in getting better computers so that they can get the job done without any muss or fuss, as opposed to trying out all these fancy gimmicks that really benefit no one (and waste all that time troubleshooting issues).

You have to remember that many employees are not tech-savvy to begin with. No need to add an extra layer of complexity to their computing experience.

You are basically implying that a touchscreen tablet is better for productivity than a real desktop environment (which is what DeX offers). And yet people prefer laptops and desktops to tablets for productivity by a wide margin. Tablets are good for certain corner cases (mostly when mobility is required like those iPads in At&t stores) but that's about it.

Dex does not offer a real desktop environment - it still relies on the rather poor selection of Android apps - not full desktop applications. It is in this area where iPadOS shines (and iOS to be honest). I like Dex as a concept - but its not there yet. Android has lost on tablets - you can even ask Google about that.

All dex does is reformat your phone onto a monitor. However, not all the apps you use translate well into that environment in Android.

You can't be sure of that. While the potential is there, it all depends upon how Apple chooses to implement it. Personally I think it will be an improvement, but more likely a smaller incremental improvement than you suggest.
