Hmm.. I wonder if they'll explain the fact that according to some devs they can't use the extra 2GB in the 1TB 2018 models.. Despite other devs taking advantage of it fine.. Was it just an Apple guideline? Are these new iPads going to address the memory differently?

I have no need for more layers than my 2018 allows, its already crushing everything I throw at it, but if Procreate ends up supporting more layers on these 6GB iPads than the 2018 6GB iPads that'll be really interesting.
The extra 2GB was for OS disk I/O caching due to the increased size of 1TB storage. There will be no significant performance improvement in real-life use.

You can't be sure of that. While the potential is there, it all depends upon how Apple chooses to implement it. Personally I think it will be an improvement, but more likely a smaller incremental improvement than you suggest.
Quite possibly but I'd consider it a bigger update than the the iPad released yesterday. I love my 2018 12.9" and see no reason to update until miniLED.

Finally backlighting!! and an extra port and awesome angle adjustion as bonus! Definite buy for me! (the keyboard, not the new ipp)

I'd like to see at least 16gb of ram
if you want to make something with a potent processor and then only give it 6gb ram not so good
not when samsung phones already have 16gb. Samsung S20

It’s always funny to see trolls posting ‘but Android is more advanced!” “But... but my Samsung S20 can do this and do that! Too! Better than yours!” in a thread about.. iPad. It’s so enjoyable. Much better than watching all the news about COVID-19 in the lockdown.

Makes this 5G iPad Pro in the Fall more plausible with an A14X chip.
Mmm idk. I think this will be it for another year or so. Probably won't see the next refresh until March or WWDC '21. This was a fairly minor refresh all considering for the iPad Pro line, and it took nearly 18 months for us to even get this...

Update: This ⬇
18 months for the next big release. The IPP comes in 18 month cycles.

I think the last thing I want to do is splurge on a consumer electronic device while standing on the precipice of an unprecedented global recession.

Funnily enough, this is exactly the reason I am thinking I should buy now.
Who knows what the value of my savings will be by the time this crisis is over...

Dex does not offer a real desktop environment - it still relies on the rather poor selection of Android apps - not full desktop applications. It is in this area where iPadOS shines (and iOS to be honest). I like Dex as a concept - but its not there yet. Android has lost on tablets - you can even ask Google about that.

All dex does is reformat your phone onto a monitor. However, not all the apps you use translate well into that environment in Android.
That's incorrect. DeX has DeX-compatible apps. The list includes many productivity apps. MS Office and Adobe apps are in this list.

Android devices have much more advanced OS that let the users run multiple apps comfortably just like on a desktop. Samsung's DeX is an example. That said, most of this RAM is used by the apps not by OS. What we have is that the apps on Samsung phones have more memory in their disposal than the apps on iPad Pros which are supposed to be used for productivity.
You must be from the Windows world where RAM and processor speed matter are the only measures. With Mac and iOS its not near as important as you cannot compare amount of RAM between two devices unless you know how efficiently they use it.

I don't know how much of an issue that every really was and it certainly wasn't on the level of the iPhone 6 fiasco. I've had mine since day 1 and its remained totally flat with zero bending. I know it was an issue for some people, but I don't think it was rampant across that product line or it would have been more widely covered.
it seemed pretty bad from everything I was reading on here. Some people won't get it but a lot of people did have issues with them. Im still guessing the frame is improved. We'll see soon.

The fact that every iPad Pro now gets the 6GB is good, I’m un-decided about the 512GB or 1TB version. I like to download a lot of my TV shows and movies, I currently have the 512GB with about 100GB left.

but with my discount I can jump from the 512GB to the 1TB for less than £200

More features mean more lines of code and higher memory requirement. iOS/iPadOS still can't move icons anywhere on the home screen for personalization and convenience but it is slowly catching up to Android from what I see using both ecosystems. Still needs background multitasking, DeX desktop mode, more freedom, etc.

Actually it's not even close to 8GB Samsung phones. The 16GB S20U is in an entirely different league in terms of RAM capabilities.

At least 8GB on a Pro tablet would have been nice.

Yet 4GB very much kept up to 16GB Samsung phones in ram management tests so clearly it doesn’t need much at all while android clearly does

You seen the new pros advertised anywhere but Apple? Can’t seem to yet

Most iPads will have 4Gb for the next year or two. It will be fine for at least two next iOS updates.
Indeed. Or even 3 GB RAM. However, if you like longevity in your purchases today it's usually best to get those with more RAM.

That said, last year I purchased a 3 GB iPad 7 for the wife. Her needs tend to be much less demanding though.

4GB gets destroyed by 16GB in app reload tests but not a surprise since it's a huge app cache. Also, no future proofing with 4GB when iOS/iPadOS and apps get more bloated over time.

iPad Air two is still going strong with its 2 GB RAM, and it’s what, 6 years old?
We‘re talking about the iPad Pro in which we hope to get full Photoshop and and other professional apps. Hopefully Final Cut and Logic.
When/if pro apps do make it, the will require more resources just as they do on the MacBook. 8 gig being about the absolute minimum.

and potentailly cannibalizes the sales of Mac. From business standpoin, that’s really bad. So, when Apple decide to merge the 2 platforms together, I think we will not see Dex on iPad (Properly in the near future as ARM mac is on the horizon)
as for me, I use ipad as a drawing tablet to replace my wacom cintiq and it works as intended. I’m not gonna edit the photos / videos on ipad because of the limited storage. 1TB can store about 5 days of work...
