The new iPad Air looks nice. My biggest problem now is decided between the Air and the Mini, but it looks like it might be a while before the Minis are released.

I'm still a little confused as to why people come to bash on Apple's press conferences on an Apple forum. I don't mean to fan the flames, but I'm pretty sure that people who are happy with their Apple products don't go on Android forums to complain.

Huge upgrade from my iPad 3. The speed will be fantastic for reading PDFs. Also for some numerical processing I want to do. I will give the iP3 to the wife and get the Air.

Curious about the M7 chip. I wouldn't expect to run around with the iPad was with an iPhone. Maybe if you carry it in a backpack you can track your hikes or bike rides?

chat support told me to check back later in the week, because they might have pre-orders. what does that mean? i don't know. i guess even apple employees don't know or can't say.

oh well. i'll get it one way or another. in the meantime, my ipad 3 works just as well as it did before 10:00 this morning.

It's not likely there will be any option to preorder. If there was going to be Apple would have announced it today. I suspect the issue is supply constraints just like with the iPhone 5S and that's why they are not offering the option to preorder. It will basically be first come first served. It won't be until November 1st when the orders go up on their site that we will know what the estimated wait will be for shipping and actual delivery.

this seems more likely to me. maybe the chat person was just throwing me a bone. oh well. i'll get a hold of one eventually.

Besides all the obvious specs, the Ipad Air checked NONE of what wouldve swayed me to get one

No Gold to match my 5S
No A7X
No Touch ID
No 2GB ram

If it had atleast checked 2 of the 4, wouldve been great. Now I need to really think it over or wait 6 months.

Same for me. More ram, touch id. I also wanted a bigger HD for the price. What is it 4 years at 16gbs?

I'm pretty sure I'm going to get one mainly because its not going to cost me anything, since selling my iPad will cover half and I have Best Buy gift cards to cover the other half. But I'm widely disappointed by iPad 5. They didn't add a new colors like the iPhone. No touch ID which I don't understand why they didn't add it. Plus the rumor about the sapphire home button didn't come true at all. Yes is lighter and faster but its not going to help Apple reclaim the iPad market at all. It already slipped by half. I mean Apple claimed 60% of the tablet field last year and now it slipped way down to 30% this year. It's going to slip even more this year. I mean just today 2 other tablets were release or announce. This update is not going to get people to switch or become new iPad users.

iPad2 feeling extra slow after this announcement, but we'll see how I feel. My grad student income (or lack thereof) will dictate my ability to upgrade.

I was all set to pre-order/order the iPad 5/iPad air, but 64 bit and a thin bezel, nah. Touch ID and gold color woulda swayed me. My iPad 2 works fine.

Its funny to me that I literally dont care about any of these items. The color is just not a big deal to me. The A7 seems plenty fast and is a large improvement over the previous iteration. The CPUs have already gotten so fast you wont notice slowdown for a few years and Id rather have the efficiency of the A7 for battery life. Touch ID doesnt matter to me since I wont be locking my iPad like I do my phone. I guess RAM would be annoying if it is affecting performance. Have iPad apps been experiencing issues with 1 GB of ram?

Any news on the new smart covers? Are they same as the old ones? I rather get the smart case but its so freakin expensive.
with Apple cases aren't their specialty. I'd suggest waiting for third party makers to get one as Apples are usually junk.

I hate typing in a password. Waiting for the finger scanner. Especially with the new Password sync. I didn't need one now anyways, but good luck to all those buying!

If you work with PDFs, especially large scanned ones, then the apps can be quite sluggish. For example, going from page 1 to 700 in a PDF (maybe to look up an endnote) is quite tedious at the moment. I am really hoping that the A7 + more RAM (maybe?) will alleviate the problem.

I'm assuming that the clock speeds of the A7 are greater than that of the iPhone 5S!

Although I have to agree, a iPad Pro seems to be in the works.

But either way, 32GB in probably white with a leather case is going to be winging its way to me at some point.

Don't know if I will try to order on the Apple Store or just turn up to the Apple Store one day *shrug*

SO disappointed there's no Touch ID. That's a dealbreaker for me. But it is very beautiful in every other way.
