exploding phones wont happen again. touchwiz is not what it was 3 years ago.
bloatware... you mean like Apple's default apps that cant be uninstalled?

I'm an iOS user. but I'm not naive to think that android (and samsung's galaxy series) is making significant strides and indeed has surpassed apple in a lot of ways.
Design is one. hold even last year's s7 and compare it to the iphone 7. the latter seems CHEAP in comparison and that's shocking coming from me, with regards to apple. never thought i'd ever say that.
I disagree. My brother has an s7 and it feels like a toy compared to my iPhone 6 Plus. My friend with a new s7 also drops her jaw every time I show her a photo on my display.

It's still full of bloatware and touchwiz nonsense.

Stock iOS apps are bloatware? They run much better than any bs 3rd party app that does the same thing.

"exploding phones wont happen again."- how did you come to this theory?

I don't understand Apple anymore. When I'm viewing photos I want color fidelity. When I'm watching a SciFi movie I want HDR. Who really cares about true tone?

Ummm, but I have calibrated monitors too, just like you.
But the professional colorimeters i have used attach to the screen, thereby removing all ambient light, and then adjusting the display colour profile to be as accurate as possible, objectively.

I get what you're saying.. that subjectively, how you view a screen is influenced by the environmental light conditions.. and that for 99% of what you do with an iPad, True Tone adjustment is probably for the best... but I would still argue that what True Tone is doing is sacrificing accuracy, for what is more comfortable/natural/easy on the eye.
And that is fine. I'm happy to trust all the opinions that like this feature.
But I just wanted to get my head around what is happening.. and what is happening is less accuracy, in favour of more comfort.
But if I want the most accurate colour reproduction, i should switch True Tone off.

I think the answer is: "it depends".

Anandtech measured a scenario with 5000K lights, and the grayscale and gamut accuracy was more accurate with True Tone on, vs. off.

4K hdr on a 5 inch phone is hilarious and not really a noticeable difference to 1080p

True-Tone does make a difference if you haven't experienced it. The way it adjusts to the ambient lighting makes it a much better viewing experience and an easier transition on the eyes.

I did not like True Tone when I first experienced it. However I grew to love it once I got an iPad Pro with a decent even toned display.

I went through 14 iPad Pros which all had uneven screens i.e one side was more yellow than the other or had pinkish tones on one side and yellow the other. When True Tone was turned on for these it made the uneven tones even more noticeable.
[doublepost=1490985892][/doublepost]By the sounds of it the iPhone "Edition/Pro" will be a Samsung Galaxy Edge design whilst running iOS. I don't know why they are planning to charge a premium just because the screens are moving to OLED. Samsung has had OLED displays since the first Galaxy S.

OK.

:)

Thank you.

As Anandtech said in that link, "Anyone using the iPad Pro for color critical work will disable True Tone while the average user will find keeping it on provides a display that is pleasing to the eyes in any ambient lighting."

I don't want true tone or night whatever. I want my phone to always have a cooler color temperature. What settings do I need to set or adjust for that? Warm tones look dingy and dirty to me.

You should've known and used color filters in accessibility setting, you can completely make your phone display looks more bluish and cooler.

You're conflating HDR and 4K. 4K is utterly blah. HDR on the other hand is a game changer. Utterly black blacks and bright whites in the same frame makes a huge difference.

I've had a 9.7 iPad Pro since launch and True Tone is a joke, to be honest. On the other hand my jaw hit the floor when I saw the LA cityscape at night when streaming HDR Bosch on my LG OLED TV. It's a game changer (unlike the gimmick that s true tone)

If the iPhone Edition actually starts at $1000... and if they actually release two more models with the 2014 design...I think it will be time to finally jump ship.

If the reasonably price phone is nothing more than an iPhone 6SSS, I'm just going to keep my 6S for as long as possible....then jump ship.

I have an iPad Pro, havn't noticed it compared to my old macbook pro or my iPhone 7. The average user won't notice it is there or what it does.

That's definitely an opinion. And Comparing HDR/OLED isn't in the same category at all and not a fair comparison.

It's Tru-Tone, and plenty of others have stated how they appreciate for what it is.

Weird, I don't consider it a gimmick at all. I've been using Flux for years, and can't wait for this to replace it; while being more efficient of how much it changes, and which color temperature to choose based upon my environment.

Also looking forward to the standardization of HDR.

It is very noticeable when putting it in a VR viewer. 1080p on a phone is on the way out. iPhone 8 will proof that too if you aren't convinced.

Weird - why do you think Apple automatically switch off true tone when you start the photos app?

and I'm interested only in that bike. What website this is?

Yes, I threw away my Samsung TV and fridge, just in case they explode.
actually Samsung recalled several million washing machines, dryers and freezers :D

I didn't think this would happen but many rumors are showing having a 7s model a long with the 8.

So basically, we will have the new iPhone 8, and a 6sss model for 2017.

I hear ya. I don't see that happening at all.

My guess is that the 7s update that has some new internals and maybe more expensive model without a bezel.

Part leaks will let us know if the plus will be the only model with the reduced bezel.

yeah.. i have both phones and there's no way anyone would 'drop their jaw' because of the difference in displays... if anything its the other way around. Sorry, the S7's display is just amazing.

Because the mobile phone business is too important and theres no way samsung would make the same mistake two years in a row. in fact, the s8's battery capacity is reduced in order to make doubly sure this wont happen again. the verge had a nice article about all this published yesterday.

'touchwiz nonsense' - like what? you know one of the benefits of android is custom launchers right?

ever used the 'tips' app?
