Apple is rumored to be planning a revamp of the Apple Watch for the device's tenth anniversary, and 91mobiles claims to have sourced CAD renders of what could be the "Apple Watch X" or Apple Watch Series 10 from industry insiders.

apple-watch-x-91mobiles.jpg

The site claims that the renders are of a "larger" model featuring a 2-inch display. The current Apple Watch Series 9 has a 1.7-inch display, while the Apple Watch Ultra has a display size of 1.93-inches, so this would be the biggest screen on an Apple Watch so far.

That said, its dimensions are said to measure roughly 46 x 39.7 x 11.6mm, which would make it bigger overall than the Series 9 but smaller than the Ultra. Otherwise, the renders suggest a design similar to the Series 9, with a Digital Crown and Side button, and a square display.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said a significantly overhauled "Apple Watch X" would launch in either 2024 or 2025, to mark the tenth anniversary of the device, so this could be the anniversary device, or it could be the Apple Watch Series 10. The original Apple Watch was announced in September 2014 and released in April 2015.

Gurman said the "Apple Watch X" would be equipped with a thinner case. The Bloomberg reporter also said it would potentially have a magnetic band attachment system, although there's no evidence of that in the renders.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently claimed that Apple Watch Series 10 will be thinner and come in larger screen sizes than previous models. Kuo said the screen size options on the next-generation Apple Watch will increase from 41mm to 45mm, and from 45mm to 49mm, while being encased in a thinner design. For reference, the Apple Watch Ultra has a 49mm case.

It's unclear at this point whether the CAD renders are accurate, but either way Apple typically launches new Apple Watch models around September alongside its latest iPhone lineup. Apple is said to be planning to incorporate blood pressure monitoring this year, with the watch able to detect hypertension, while sleep apnea detection is also said to be coming to the 2024 Apple Watch model.

I’m aware that there is only so much industrial design changes that can be made to a product that ain’t broke.

That said, what ever happened to Apple’s sense of aesthetic exploration? One of the things that drew me to this company was their ability to shake things up with their hardware designs.

Wasn’t always for the best. But they consistently went in new directions and tried new things with their hardware designs.

That was exciting. It represented a kind of curiosity about what they were doing.

I refuse to believe that all of their products have reached peak industrial design. Yet the iPad has looked the same since 2018. The iPhone since 2020. The watch since its introduction.

Why not shake things up? I sense a lack of inspiration regarding their current hardware design.

The regular AW should have an action button.

A large number of people use it for fitness and active sports. And certainly not everyone requires an Ultra.

I would like that. I use my s6 for fitness almost exclusively, and the ultra is just too big and bulky for my taste. I would like a more durable regular-sized model. I've scratched the screen on mine pretty badly from climbing/bouldering.

2in is too big of a watch for me. Ugh.

Surely the constant striving to make displays bigger and bigger only applies to phones, iPads, desktops, and macbooks...

A watch cant just keep growing theres only so big a screen can be before it looks ridiculous and would be too big for most people's wrists.
The Ultra is seen as 'very big' and not everyone can pull it off - but to go bigger still?
It already does. Apple Watches look horrible and IMO it’s a pure sports activity monitor. The trend in watches is classic styling and smaller sizes (sub 40mm dials).

I am not going to lie, i am rather disappointed. I wanted a big change just as iPhone X was.

I thought this might get me excited for the Apple Watch again but does not seem like that’ll happen for a while.

The watch really does not need a yearly release cycle.
Why not add the minor updates each year? People update and make new purchases at different times. Seems your desire is based on your personal spending habits, which don’t matter to the rest of us.

I just want a smaller version of the ultra… have small wrists (165mm) and don’t want a massive, bulky watch.

Well for one thing, from the Series 6 to Series 8 they didn't add any new features except I think a thermometer, but yet they released a new watch every year. The chip stayed the same.

A bit disappointed can’t lie considering it’s the 10th anniversary but thinner is good especially for the Apple Watch. And bigger display is good too. I’ll be upgrading from my series 7.

Sooooooo… ALSO this year?

If it’s not 4 inch I’m out. Why can’t they just put a decent screen on Apple Watch. The size is far too small to scroll through websites etc

4 inch for smaller watch and 12 inch for larger and 16 inch for Ultra, I’d say.

🥴
Good things come in small packages. At least that’s what my wife tells me

This probably be the standard model and then there will hopefully be the AW X model. Just like how they did iPhone 8 Series and iPhone X. 🤔
If there’s a Series 10 with this familiar design, marketing-wise doesn’t make sense to release the redesigned Apple Watch under the name of Series X, because it reads as Series “ten”, just like the regular Series 10.

Remember the iPhone X wasn’t the iPhone ex, or the XS wasn’t the “ex-es”, just like OS X wasn’t OS-ex. They were, respectively, the iPhone “ten”, iPhone “ten-es”, and OS “ten”.

So no, there won’t be a Series 10 and a redesigned Series “ten”. My bet, if this leak is legitimate and reflects the 2024 Apple Watch, is that we’ll see an Apple Watch 11, “the next generation of Apple Watch”, and it will probably be released in 2025 just to not affect this year’s model.

It is a gadget 😂

The only thing I agree on is an edge to edge screen.

You should go talk to Omega, Rolex and others about their men’s watches. You think Apple Watch is bulbous?
Guy has never looked at a luxury watch in person it seems. The Apple Watch is not very large.

Wrong.

6 —> 7: bigger display with smaller bezel, brighter always-on display indoors, fast charging, more dust and shatter proof.

7 —> 8: body temperature sensor, crash detection sensor.

If Apple manages to incorporate reliable readings of blood pressure and sleep apnea detection, I honestly should buy one to my mom. And probably another one for me.

EDIT: I stand corrected on my correction! If true, I’m psyched, bc I actually would like both! If it has those AND the slimmer design, I’m in.

That change already came with the Ultra.

You're going in the wrong direction, apple. I want a smaller Ultra, one with the same features and durability as the Ultra but with the size of the 9. I'm willing to charge every day because I understand the battery will be smaller.

Thought they were getting a new strap/connector? I guess apple really can't innovate anymore if this is the best "overhaul" they can come up with.
