I'll be getting an iPhone 12 Pro regardless. Glad I held onto my 7 Plus for almost 4 years. It'll be a great upgrade!
me too. I'm on my 6plus, and pretty much getting a phone this year regardless. tried the SE actually, thought it be fine. but i got a migraine after using it for a few hours. who knew small screens would do that to me. good phone though.

I disagree that the notch is graceful. They had to break up the top bar and reduce the amount of information it has space to display - on my iPad, I get time, full date, and more indicators. The hit area for “double tap to scroll up” is smaller. They had to employ software tricks so that apps don’t accidentally bleed into that space (and some still do). If the size of the notch keeps changing, they have to manage that in software. The one thing it briefly achieved was being unique, but many Android OEMs immediately copied it in some form anyway.
My post was worded very carefully to address a response such as this. I'm not dismissing your opinion, but pointing out that an acceptable compromise and design to one person, may not be to another person.

My better half decided to wait it out for the rumored 5.4 (coming from original iphone SE) as opposed to going with the 2020 SE; shaping up to be a good call. I just hope the phone can make it until November-ish.

Is this meant to be the entire front assembly, or just the display before it's bonded to the cover glass? If the latter then surely it doesn't tell us anything about the bezel size?

I'm actually far more interested in thinner bezels than a smaller notch. I think it makes a bigger difference to the usable area.

11 Pro owner here. Great phone but the notch is its most obvious flaw, and people convincing themselves they “like” such an obvious technical obstacle will continue to be hilarious to me.

Desperately wish I could buy a full-screen phone with TouchID only. FaceID adds absolutely nothing to the experience for me, and is not worth the presence of the notch.

I can clearly see that the iPhone 12 5.4" will sell out in milliseconds. I'm going for the 6.7" model but I'm not gonna lie the idea of holding an all screen version of the 5.4" which reminds me of holding on to my iPhone 5 in the past is really enticing.

I dont know. Apple is supposed to be convincing people to give them money and isnt making a great case from the totality of the rumors- the different sources in agreement that is

If you have an older phone, or XR/11, then yes its a huge upgrade to get OLED on the mid-range models.

But the "Pro" purchasers are mainly the tech nerds. If all you are offering is square sides (which most hide in a case), 5g (which is still non-existent in most places to even use), better camera yearly bump, and the usual yearly faster chip which I have never found wanting more in the A13, that's a tough sell. If the notch isnt getting smaller, no 120hz, and no change in battery what is being offered for another $999/1099+?

And WHO keeps asking for thinner phones? I get the A14 may be more power efficient but why not, you know, keep the 3969mah battery and ADD battery life? Why shrink the battery to get the same usage time; why is the same the standard? I just dont get it.

I see no compelling reason to upgrade this year after upgrading almost every year I can remember (maybe skipped the 5S and other "S" models). I have no use for a better camera not to use, 5g that wont be big for years still, and a processor bump that really isnt needed when you are already so fast and ahead of the pack.

Let's be real. Put a new Galaxy/Note next to an iPhone, toss out iOS vs Android and just talk looks and visual look of the hardware (not chips etc), and hardware-wise it gets destroyed. The Samsungs look like they're from 2020+ and iPhone still looks like 2017 just from appearances; the same iPhone X with very small visual tweaks. Not saying the iPhone isnt good hardware or isnt elegant in its own right, but that futuristic vibe pushing it into the future just isnt there with Apple. It feels like resting on laurels right now.

But you can’t just throw out the OS. That’s the main thing about the phone. Note 20 ultra has more features than the iPhone but aside from s pen/5x zoom/ periscope the iPhone 12 won’t be missing loads. The overall camera quality could/should be better but will see

If hardware specs was the most important thing everybody would buy the note Line

Sure you can, hardware is a separate matter. Hardware design has nothing to do with what OS it runs; you can slap any OS on any hardware design. And one cant assume owning an iPhone means in the ecosystem or owns any other Apple products where that matters as Android is 100 times better and closer to iOs fluid than it was even 5 years ago.

Why does the new Galaxy/Note line look like its sleek from the future and the iphone still looks like it did from 2017 with the George Jefferson hairline notch? S8 in 2017 to S20 in 2020.

In 3 years, 4 model lines (X, XS, 11, and 12) if this year holds the same, worth $1 trillion, you're telling me they cant figure out how to shrink a notch not even 1mm? But Samsung can go from big forehead and chin to basically nothing.

Posting the X to 11 Pro is really useless as you wouldn't be able to tell the difference even- exactly the same look.

Or is it FAR more likely they know customers will buy anything they put out so stay the course of incremental upgrades and sell people the same phone for $999/1099 every year with just enough to make them want to upgrade?

At one time Apple innovated the market; original iPhone, multitouch, software keyboards that were actually usable on a capacitive display, iPad, etc. Not just recycled ideas and technologies (albeit maybe refined) by others.

I have both XS Max & 11 Pro Max (512 GBs) I don’t think I will switch to another anytime sooner. I like XS Max design overall than 11 Pro Max.

I don’t bother about smaller displays, 120 Hz, ToF cameras,5G is distant dream in my place.

Overall satisfied with my iPhones.

Hey Tim...why did you leave out more memory, faster/better/more efficient processor, better camera, better screen, better sound system, faster charging, oh and 5G, etc. You wanted us to be pleasantly surprised at all the tech packed into the phone without a price increase?
Yea forgot about how they are still turtling along at 7.5W wireless but expect to go full wireless.

After switching from Apple to the dark side with a Samsung S7 ( great phone not so great software and OS updates ) followed by a Honor View 20, I dug out the old 6s and installed the iOS 14 Beta. I'm delighted with the new stacks and widgets. I have ny current phone set up with Windows phone style tiles courtesy of "Square Home" and I love the functionality. Looks like I'll be switching back.
