I’m still hoping one day Apple releases a new phone with the notch and Touch ID area. This forum would explode and I’d be here for it.

no one has shrunk the Face ID components down

even the company that supplies Apple has not been able to do so yet. This has been confirmed by supply chain leakers several times over the last few years. At the moment al they can do to reduce the notch size is to move the speaker up and squish the other components together (this is what the iPhone 12 lineup will allegedly do), but there are no component size changes

Regarding the iPad; there is a very Distinct and different bezel size between the iPad Pro redesign and iPhones. I recommend you hold the two together to see how thick the bezel is on the iPad vs any notched iPhone, even the lcd models that have thicker bezels at baseline (Xr, 11)

Regarding other manufacturers; no other company uses the same components as the Face ID tech. Not one other company.

The only company that has come close is google with the pixel 4/4XL, that system is very similar. and they had to add a full forehead to their phone to fit all their components (which included a radar system, but I digress)

That's fine. I don't mind a full forehead. I just want a full screen that's not interrupted by a notch.

Doesn’t Apple care that the flat hard square edges are uncomfortable to hold in your hand?

As long as the iPhone continues to have a notch, I will never buy one and Steve will continue spinning at a high enough amount of RPMs to power all of California.

The notch is an unnecessary design failure. Simple have a small bezel at the top and give me a proper screen.

What else would there be? Seems to me the only two logical edges to a phone would be rounded or squared off. Unless you’re proposing some sort of diagonal slant?
Just to piss off or please everybody complaining about the same old designs Apple should come up with a circular phone or something? I don't know.

Not impressed. It needs to have NO notch, 120 hz display, 4 cameras, better selfie camera, and new color for me to buy

First up, it's a rumor, so I don't pin much on that. But let's take this as what might be, and if it is. Yuck. The square edges of the 5S were horrible to hold and hated that phone, only good thing about it at the time was the larger screen. For me the rounded bezels have always been much better.

What exactly are you doing with your phone for which rounded edges drives you nuts? Are you trying to balance it on your head? Playing Jenga with it? I know you’re going to say something about holding it being inconvenient because of the rounded edges (which is utter nonsense). I think you’re just bored with the design and you put a lot of self worth into the inanimate objects you own. Just speculation on my part.
So if you think he’s just bored with the design or whatever, why did you feel the need to put your two cents in? Did it make you feel superior in some way?

They're basically out of ideas and going back to the 4/4s/5/5s/SE design.

more like the ipad pro design. The iphone 4 had huge bezels. There is only so much you can do with a flat slab design wise. At least until foldable screens are perfected....but then I guess people will complain it looks too much like an old flip phone. 🤦‍♂️

A matter requires space. FaceID will always require a notch. That’s a fact, unless we all turn into energies.

Apple are willing to die on this notch-shaped hill.

In all jest, it reminds me of the original iPhone. The proportion of the front screen was the same for 10 years, all while other manufacturers were trying to reduce the fingerprint sensor on the front or shrink the forehead of the device, Apple stubbornly stuck to a strict symmetrical design for years.

Maybe with tech shrinking we'll lose the notch in 2023?

I‘m glad I bought the iPhone 11 Pro when I did, then. 5.8” is a better size for me than 6.1”. Doesn’t seem like much, but my kids have the 6.1” iPhone 11 and I find it too wide to be comfortable. I prefer the X/XS/11Pro size much more.
It’s possible that they may reduce the bezels a tiny bit while keeping the overall size the same as the X/XS/11 Pro. I also think the notch here is wrong, probably from an earlier version that we saw months ago before we knew about the smaller notch.

The notch a problem?
NO.
The problem is those who prefer form over function. The notch and the camera bump arre there because of the technologies Apple is offering consumers.
