The simplest solution is still the most obvious... the notch isn’t an issue with hardware design, it is software design. Black out the pixels (on the OLED phones) on either side of the notch with always white time/icons in the black. That’s all that’s up there anyway! It would look so much cleaner and not reduce any usable screen space. I’d also say it should just be permanently blacked out in landscape mode where it is most distracting.

There are apps (I have Custom Notch) that let you do just that. Or cat ears. Lots of options.

it is not the final version (or very possible a fake mold). for a case manufacturer (my brother is a designer for 3rd party apple accessories), they do receive some molds for preparation prior to the mass production of the iPhone, but in most cases, these molds do not show Apple logo and the words "iPhone". they have no impact on how the case will be designed and look like....

Why not skip that useless face ID stuff and copy the much more innovative technology from Samsung with touch ID under glass. No ugly notch anymore except a very small cut out for the front cam. Sad enough, that Apple is clearly lagging behind Samsung these days, used to be vice versa in the past.
Lol. Face ID os anything but useless. It blows Touch ID out of the water, in my view.

The problem is, Apple made a problem that didn't even exist. They could have avoided the notch and slimmed down the bezels. Check the Nokia 9 PureView, Samsung Galaxy S8+ or the Xperia XZ3. Beautiful phones with no notch.
Omg, Face ID is light years ahead of competition. I love it on my phone and if the notch is the price to pay, so be it.

When does apple realize that millions of potential customers will NEVER buy a phone with an ugly notch? There is no need for it.

They will realize no such thing, because the notch isn’t ugly, the notch provides extra screen real estate that otherwise would be forehead or chin, and anybody who claims they won’t buy the phone because of the notch wouldn’t buy the phone anyway.

As for need, the choice is a smaller screen with a top bezel, or the notch. Because Face ID kicks touch ID’s ASS.

And considering you just joined, and all of your posts are anti-notch, or lamenting the loss of Touch ID or headphone jack, your postings could easily be replaced by a samsung astroturfer and who would notice?

While a 3 lens camera has its advantages it’s not something you would buy a new iPhone for

Yeh! Otherwise we probably should start thinking of it as an iCamera instead of an iPhone. :p

Ultimately, I think most people are now going to be waiting for the 5G iPhone in 2020. That will be the next and most significant leap for smart phones, I guess?

It will be interesting to see how 5G changes things. I mean will 5G see an explosion in the IoT realm as far as new apps, new technology etc? There's a lot of hype around 5G but I wonder how much as actually just "hype" and nothing more.

But back on topic, a 3 lens camera may improve photographs/videos, which I'm all for especially if the vibrancy of colors in night time photos can be improved but it's not enough to make me personally want to upgrade this year.
And hopefully by 2020 Apple will have rethought the triangular configuration, or embed it so its not protruding, so that its more aesthetic and less susceptible to damage. Or whatever.

OLED or MicroLED displays are something else to hold out for.

I mean system wide, not just wallpaper on the home/lock screens. I would have to think an eventual dark mode in the next iOS would solve the problem for apps like Safari.

Read couple of pages of comments.

Insane bitching about the notch and camera bump, and how Apple has falled behind in everything, as expected.

Most of you will use a case so bump is a no issue. The triple lens setup looks fine. Do you look at it all the time, or what’s the issue if you don’t like it?

Notch won’t go away as long as there is FaceID. You all know this. There will never be an inscreen fingerprint reader in an iPhone.

Did you read the S10 reviews? The inscreen reader is not very good. None of the reviews said it works great and when you consider unlocking is something you do 100 times a day - no thanks. FaceID is great and likely to be even better in the new models.

When it comes to falling behind - S10 had a perhaps slightly improved camera and an inscreen fingerprint reader which isn’t very good. That’s it.

It’s amusing why Samsung etc are held to different standards. Better performance, better camera, slight other improvements (and cool but crap features like inscreen reader) -> amazing! But when Apple does the same (minus the gimmicky crap) -> fire Tim Cook!

Or not.

I would never buy a phone without Face ID.
What a massive step back that would feel like.

Can’t see how Samsung’s fingerprints are considered an innovation but FaceID is not.

Ridiculous in my opinion.

If this is a mold for case then why is everyone assuming the notch design is representative of the final design? The notch has nothing to do with case design.

Stop. At the time, usb-c wasn’t a thing. So the choice was ****** micro-usb (fragile, clunky, only can be plugged in one way) or usb-a (big, can only be plugged in one way). Lightning is way better than micro-usb, so it was a great idea.

USB-C probably still wouldn't be a thing if Apple hadn't rejected micro-usb.

I don’t care about the camera. But no USB-C = no buy. Your move, Apple.

The other day I was in a meeting and my boss's Mac died. He didn't have his charger.

Of the dozen people there, I was the only one with an Android phone, and I was therefore the only one who could help - my Samsung charger's USBC got the Mac back up and running.

Sad that Apple products aren't compatible with each other anymore.
