Because Apple will include a USB-C to lightning cable and a usb-c charger with the iPhones in 2019. At least that is rumored. So you will be able to connect it to your MacBook with usb-c.

Yeah, but then people will complain they can’t charge their iPhone at work because all the computers have USB-A and their USB-C cable doesn’t work.

The point is that the iPhone has an entire ecosystem of lightning accessories and Apple can't afford to just switch like that.

I see it as the price for having gotten lightning in 2012 compared to sticking with the 30-pin connector. It just means that now, we are stuck with it while the rest of the world has moved on to USB-C, but personally, I am not that bothered. Everything is wireless these days. I also have a USB-C to lightning cable so I can charge my iPhone from my iPad Pro.

Otherwise, I haven't really plugged anything into my iPhone recently and it doesn't really bother me what port it has. Heck, I probably would be able to get by with it not having a charging port even...
Do you charge your phone mostly via cable or wireless charging?

If Steve Jobs 'turned' in his grave every time such a comment is made on Macrumors, he would have rolled all the way to Mexico by now.....

Why people get tizzy about a launch so far away and what may or may not be true, is beyond comprehension. If when it comes out and you don't like it, don't buy it.

Having worked for Steve at NeXT and Apple he would have told this crew of whiners to pee up a rope and stay out of Apple's ``vision.''

Regarding the notch. I mentioned to my Apple fanatic sister the other day about Apple hopefully doing away with the notch soon. Her response was “what notch?” She had no idea that was even a thing and thought it was ridiculous people were mad about it.

Apple adds more lenses while others are innovating with things like combining better software with the camera hardware. Things like night sight and hybrid zoom.
Apple’s innovations are seamless to the user.
- smart HDR. No longer you need a separate mode nor wait for a few seconds for an HDR photo.
- video quality and stabilization. Most videographers still put iPhones as de facto smartphone for video recording.
- seamless panorama. Not only it auto adjusts exposure, it produce true high megapixel panorama.

Night mode is the only “feature” left that Apple has not fully embrace, probably because the current implementation requires user to hold their phone still for 5-10 seconds, and through a separate mode. I know this because I have the Honor View 10 which has this feature. Apple probably wait until they can do this seamlessly, just like how they developed smart HDR.

The notch is Apple's way to differentiate the iPhone. Nearly all of the Android devices have the hole punch and look nearly identical from the front. Unfortunately this is what happens when you lose the bezels. Everything starts to look the same and Apple wants their products to be instantly recognizable, thus the notch.

I can understand why it bothers many, but I would be fine with it to be honest. Maybe Apple will invent some auto sliding front camera that retracts when not in use. This would really be the ideal solution (no notch, no hole) but adding something like this would result in more broken phones.

And less instantaneous picture taking. Not at all ideal.

Wireless charging at night, wired during the day if it needs a boost.
oh so primarily wireless charging. But before Apple had wireless charging it was useless and you would never have used it right? Now Apple has it, you're all for it. Just like many other features you said were useless...how 3.5" screen was big enough.

As I said prior, Im not in the market for a new phone just yet - the iPhone X is enough for me; for now.

But remember what Jony Ive said about the iPhone X.... this model is what he was shooting for for years. He hated the bezels on the iPhone 6, 7, & 8 and his perfect vision for a phone is the iPhone X. The technology back during the iPhone 6 wouldn't allow him to make that style just yet.

We are stuck with the iPhone X body for a while....I don't see any huge changes coming.

This tune will be different once Apple shrinks the notch in future iPhone models. Just saying.

FaceID phones are already different without a slim bottom bezel aka chin.

Marketing, nothing more. What did you expect him to say? He said the same thing about the iPod Nano, that it’s slim and small size is what Apple wanted the original iPod to be, blah blah tech did not permit at the time blah blah.

When we get flexible phones (vice iPad Pro) and/or holographic phones, I am sure the narrative will be something different.

Nothing Apple has looked like Apple for years.

Started with the camera bump and progressively got worse to this mock-up and possible really abomination.

Then again who am I to comment on others personal preference of beauty.

one step forward 3 steps back only with apple. because they know as long as they put the logo on the phone the sheep will always buy

This comment does not explain the price drops in China for the XR and the hearty trade-in value in other countries.

I know many people still sporting a 6 or mini 2.

Oh how clever. People who buy apple stuff are like sheep. Bet nobody has ever thought of that before.

Technology has become a religion for some, I utilize the appropriate tech for the job.

I don't care if the tri-lens looks odd. Just wish there were no camera bump. It's really not Apple-like to have a phone that wobbles oddly when placed on a table, plus the lens gets dirty or scratched.

Except for AirPods. I'll never buy them only cause of Bluetooth's incompetence, but gotta say AirPods + carrying case is pretty sleek, and Apple did a great job on it.
The lack of a lit-up Apple logo on MBPs still bothers me. And my work laptop is a new MBP. Ruined it enough that I went from having a clean laptop to slapping stickers on to hide its lameness.

I love Force Touch. Even though I only use it for half a dozen functions, I use those functions all the time.

I always put a case on my phones so the slight camera bump is irrelevant to me, even if it gets bigger as shown in this article.
I would say the mass majority of people put a case on their iPhone and could care less about the bump or post their feelings of it on a forum like this. It’s only weirdos like us who have such strong opinions on something so insignificant.

I think tech "religion" makes sense sometimes because you often times don't know exactly how well everything will do. For example, I've excommunicated MySQL cause it looks the same as PostgreSQL on the cover but is actually inferior in every tiny way. Same with macOS vs Windows. Either can regain my trust but not very quickly cause I simply don't have time to keep browsing the market, and I don't think anyone can claim to either.

You can do a lot with ML, but hardware goes a much longer way. And you can do both.

Also what the other guy said. Apple usually doesn't add fancy features until they're very ready. They've been behind in this respect forever. I, for one, welcome that instead of being a test subject.

This is not how brand-building works.
