Maybe I’m old now and don’t give much of a **** what Apple does anymore. I used to get super excited about their products. Their most innovative days are over with Jobs gone. Jobs left them a 5 year blueprint and I think we’ve seen the end of that.

Does the notch and unshapely camera deter from the perfect form factor? Sure. Sometimes form and function just can’t jive. I don’t like it either but I don’t believe these to be main driving factors detracting the general pop from buying it. When was the last time you heard someone say they don’t want to be seen in public because their phone’s camera shape or a notch is ugly?

Com’on people. Keep it real.

If this new triple design just does better photography and depth of field pictures (like portrait mode,) forget it; I'm out. If it has heavy AR usage or 3D rendering, count me in.

Don't you think by this time that blueprint could be out of date as well?

Just had one last month. They're fine. Thanks for your concern. Please don't be a butthead just because we disagree. I ask again. How would you do a full face display and still put the cameras and sensors up front?
Magic. Or invest in a way where it can be hidden under the display.

I totally believe these are legit because they have the word “iPhone” right on them.

I’ll be upgrading. I think besides communication and apps, we all use our phones as our primary camera. And having a better camera with a wide angle lens is worth the upgrade.

Every year people say this and it turns out the leaks have been right all along.

Oh I do know. I remember the anti-apple iPhone 4 that someone """forgot""" in a public place. Turned out to be the most beautiful iPhone generation.

But this time it's hard to believe, its ugly as f, specially since competitors have much better camera designs.

Why not skip that useless face ID stuff and copy the much more innovative technology from Samsung with touch ID under glass. No ugly notch anymore except a very small cut out for the front cam. Sad enough, that Apple is clearly lagging behind Samsung these days, used to be vice versa in the past.

Is it just me or would the ugliness of this (or any potential square camera bump) be significantly reduced if the camera was flush as it was on pre-6 iPhones?
Yes but the phones would be a brick, so people would complain another that too. I am not a fan at all of this supposed camera layout. Looks worse than the Galaxy Fold. But I’m sure the ultra wide camera that will inevitably come with it will be nice to have.

As somebody who uses both in terms of speed Face ID is better but on a desk FPS is ideal. Notch isn’t w big deal to me as I’ve got used to it...don’t think apple will reduce it til they can get rid of it completely

I believe apple is headed in the wrong direction. Tim cook is not bad as ceo. he cant innovate like steve jobs. all the designs and concepts are from steve jobs (like the apple watch, iphone, ipad and etc.) are barely passing keeping the company together. Tim Cook cant design a product if his life depended on it and they somehow praise him better than steve. any ceo can take over and run apple and should be successful from steve's innovation. thats exactly what is happening with apple. They need another ceo innovator.

Who needs/wants a full edge-to-edge display?! Add a 3-5mm bezel at the top for that stuff. No one would complain, and beats having a notch. Personally, I’ll never buy a notch phone, nor one w/o Touch ID.

I tend to agree but Apple decided on edge to edge. You're going to have to stock upon older models if you insist on Touch ID.

Is it just me or have iPhone designs got uglier with the generation upgrades?

i can't use the term "uglier", but i think what's going on with design direction is, and has been, 3 things:

1 a person such as Jonny was able to push materials suppliers (PCB, Modem, Camera, Display, etc) to invest in tech to get lighter and more compact materials. this included innovative ways to deal with heat dissipation.

2 but the above approach has met its limitations and is pushing against the extremes of current knowhow.

3 in light of hitting upper reaches of lighter and more compact dimensions a strategic design decision had to be made to allow non-symetrical elements to be used (non flat back caused by current limitations on camera elements; weird cut-out notch in display due to under/in display sensor tech not ready yet)

thus we are in a transitional period where form is dictated by function.

i hope that for Autumn 2020 models we begin to see tech for componentry catch up to again make beautiful symmetrical designs capable.

1. XI vs 11 is so dumb

2. I haven’t ever used my iPhone and wished for a wider angle camera.

3. Why no iPad Pro edges?

Guess I’ll be doing an AppleCare+ replacement in October and holding onto the X for another year. 2018 and 2019 will be my first years not buying an iPhone. I haven’t bought anything from Apple since the AirPod launch. Watch is honestly the only thing temping at this point.

I do like Face ID but I hate the notch even more. In every single product category Apple seems to be playing catch up. Very sad.
