Instead of a camera bump, Apple is going with a camera block.

Notch in the front.
Block in the back.

Sounds like the making of some awful mumble rap.

All that said, if the triple camera significantly improves in low light and noise performance, I may upgrade. MAY upgrade. I’m not looking at the back of my phone anyway and it will be in a case most times anyway.

Still a weird design choice.

The new Apple XI... cue the Beats...
Notch in the front.
Block in the back...

Ok, I’ll stop here.

They may well get destroyed for design but if the pics are that good the reviewers will talk more about what works well than a design

It will be a great year for iPhones if they price it where no increases

It still remains to be seen on what other upgrades the new phones have. That will decide more on who buys it

Said for a while that IOS 13 will mean more this year than feature upgrades in new phones
“Design is how it works”

After skipping the XS I assumed I’d probably buy this years upgrade as it would have some sort of design change. Looks like that’s not the case though. Pretty cool really as my X still looks the part and save some cash!

To think I used to upgrade every year.

“Design is how it works”
Design is just that a design...that has nothing to do with what the phones does.

This design does look ugly but most will hide the obvious look in a case and if this takes amazing pictures the design will be an after thought.

Can someone remind me why Apple decided to use Lightning rather than going with standards? Is it truly a self money motivated decision?
If I remember correctly, lightning came out before USB-C. Micro USB back then was less than ideal (loosening, orientation issues). Now, of course, there's no reason to stick with lightning. Although, to be fair, lighting feels slightly better than USB-C. But USB C allows faster transfer rates, and it's a standard, so there's that.

Spider-Eye Design! New for 2020!
It's funny, until you said that I never thought about it that way, but now I just can't unsee it! :D

Fake this doesn't look apple.s

Apple this year will implement a black tint in cameras glass, so we wont be able to see the lens.
Now imagine that triple lens in the back, tinted, and a small ball in the corner for the flash... it wont look balanced, it wont look an apple product.

Forget this, this is fake.

I thought the 7 plus and X cameras were hideous but this by far takes the cake.

Those cameras remind me of two things:

- What a fly sees.
- The little drone thing on the tether in the 1953 War Of The Worlds film.
It’s literally an Apple Watch screen. Fugly.

the only reason for such an arrangement is depth sensing / augmented reality.

But man, someone tell Apple that fugly crap isn’t necessary, put them all in a row, and place the middle lens at an angle!

99.9% of all phones look more or less like this these days. Off course it will sell loads.
I think the general public does not care as much as the people on this forum.
If it takes good pictures of your kids and you can do mail and Facebook most people are happy.

I think price will be more important than innovation this time.

Unfortunately Apples experimental days are over since they are to big now. And they get much more media attention than their competitors. Just look at how much attention the cancelled air power thing got. No one cared about it when they launched it but everyone were complaining when it got cancelled.

Imagine if the Samsung screen issue had been on a Apple phone. It would have been so much worse. For Samsung it was a day of twitter rage. For Apple it would have been years of abuse.

And unfortunately that forces Apple to play it beyond safe. And it slows down innovation.
Look at the speaker. It’s a great speaker, it was just released a few years to late to really make a mark.

Apple might have a foldable iPhone that is just as good as Samsung. But they would never get away with releasing a product that had as big problem yield. But for Samsung it was worth it.

And for us who have been with Apple for 20 years it’s an annoying new world. Because we remember when Apple changed the world. And every new computer update was new and cool. When Jonny was king.

Just look at iMac G4. It’s not a computer, it’s art. The power Mac G3-4-5 are not far behind. Not to mention the Cube and the iMacs.

But those days are gone.
And they would still have been gone even if Steve and had been here.

This is the new Apple.
And it will be like this probably forever. You all should have gotten used to it now.

Been there done this. The pictures taken will be amazing. Endless comparisons. The new chip will be faster than most super computers. A new amazing color that will generate 1000 page threads on here. And on we go.

Are there still people complaining about a notch? Funny stuff.

While a 3 lens camera has its advantages it’s not something you would buy a new iPhone for
I would. Actually I did. I upgraded my S9+ to the S10+. I am enjoying and using all the lenses and it’s kind of hard to go back to my Pixel or Xr and be restricted to just one lens and one view.

I have a problem with current iPhone OLED displays giving me migraines, but if Apple changes their OLED so that I can use their new phones I’ll definitely upgrade to the triple lens monstrosity. If I am still limited to LCD, I’ll update to the next version of the XR with the additional lens.

iPhones haven’t been terribly attractive on the back since iPhone 5/SE, though XR is cute enough. I don’t care as much what they look like anymore as much as I care what I can do with them.

My Xr takes nice enough photos that I’m excited to see the upgrades has in store for the camera this year.

If those molds are legit, then I suspect Apple is going to get absolutely hammered this fall by reviewers.

The overall design is now stale and boring. The camera “hump” (more like “block”) is now huge. The controversial notch will still be there. And it’s unlikely that 5G will be included, even if there really isn’t a market yet (it’s one less selling point).

It’s going to be a snoozer this year, folks. Exotic/experimental products like the Fold and Mate X are getting a lot of attention and mindshare — even if they come with issues — because they’re bold and new. I think it’s not going to be a good year for Apple iPhones.

Reviewers loved the essential phone. Didn’t mean much when it came to sales though. They also loved the palm pre etc etc.

Reviewers also lambasted the iPhone X and Xs and xr. They hated the notch and tried to make an issue regarding its prices. They even spent months writing piece after piece on how the x or the xr weren’t selling. None of that mattered when it came to sales, they were both best sellers.

Guess reviewers and reviews don’t mean much when it comes to sale.

Will decide in September whether the new iPhone 11 is worth an upgrade after the apple event.

Regardless hope the front changes (less notch, less bezel).

Unless Apple does something different with Face ID I think they're stuck with the notch for some time, and given the time Apple is taking with with such changes, no matter what they do will be a copy of someone else. For instance, if it were possible to put the front camera(s) into (more behind) the display today don't you think Samsung would be using a hole punch in the S10 else the flipping camera in the A80? Or are Apple engineers thinking they're the only ones that can do it… like the AirPower.

These guys really need to brush up on their 3D printing skills. Ew.

Man ..this is getting uglier than a sack of potatoes..
Until it comes out. Then everyone will be stumbling over each other trying to replicate the design and be 'cool'

Totally agree BTW.

Nope. Nothing personal, but when it comes to this topic instead of believing you, I believe Steve Jobs.

I don’t think “literally” means what you think it means.

Remember these? They were popping until about a month before launch.

At this point I think it's fair to say things have solidified around this design so 99% this is what we're getting in September... I hope the Camera performance is worth it for that huge carbuncle of a bump on the back!

I like the iPhone 6 design. So much so that I bought one on release year and kept it all the way until I bought my iPhone X.

I'm still rocking my iPhone 6 that I bought in 2015. I got a new battery in December. While I'm ready to move up to the XS etc I'm not so motivated since this old iPhone 6 still works just fine. I don't really care about the camera.

I want my product to be forward thinking, high quality film and photograph capable [front and back], while feeling natural in my hand. These comments about notch and bulky lens array are pathetic. The more phones attempt to match the power of a DSLR the more you will see these multiple lens solutions because your phone isn't a DSLR [bulky and powerful] so get over this mystique that your phone is first a fashion statement and then a portable computing powerhouse.
