Here is a question. With the new "notch", cut-out thing at the top of the screen (if indeed this is the final design) how will you quickly scroll back up to the top of a page in Safari, or the top of your Inbox in mail?

An example; on a current iPhone, open the Mail app to your Inbox, scroll down a page or so. Now, tap the to of the screen in the middle, and your Mail app helpfully scrolls back up to the first message. Lovely.

If you instead tap in the top-left corner (where the Carrier icon is) then Mail drops back a screen, as though you had actually tapped on the "Mailboxes" icon just below that.

If you tap in the top-right corner (where the battery icon is) then Mail opens the "Edit" function, as though you had actually tapped on the "Edit" icon just below that.

Does this mean the stock apps will have to change behaviour, or the "scroll up" function won't work?

I am confused...

This is a great question. I use that feature all the time, too. We’ll find out soon enough!

Hahaha, so buying an 7s will make you feel like crap about your purchasing decision but buying an inferior product from Samsung will make you feel better? And I don't get why everyone is hating on high prices for the phones.
What is the single most used device during your day? It will probably be your phone.
Don't get me wrong, I think the phone is also very expensive, but I am willing to pay that price, because I look at it for 5 hours every day, some days even up to 7 hours (I have a 3 hour commute every day). So it is my single most used device. And I am ready to spurge on that. And if you break it down; it's 41 USD each month (999 over 24 months). That goes down to around 1.4 USD a day. I don't know about you but I have used my money on stuff more stupid than an iPhone.

Hahaha you sure seem to advocate for Samsung on here, huh? ;P
That extra 550 is service. That extra 550 is reliablity. That extra 550 is Software updates until 2020 at least. That extra 550 is security. And most of all iOS. Those are all things you do not get in the same capacity with Samsung.

Well, the Airpods are 160, soooooooo. And don't come for the Airpods. It is the best new device Apple has launched in a long time.
[doublepost=1504685555][/doublepost]
Well no, you can't. Because Apple hasn't showed us yet how they are going to handel it. So until then your guess is as good as mine. So why don't we wait until it will be presented in 6 days, 8 hours and 50 Minutes.
I don't really get that argument. I use my iPhone 6S everyday and it was about £640 new. The iPhone 8 is apparently £400 more and will do practically the same thing. It's no wonder the rumoured 7S is bound to be more popular. If you can justify the extra cost because you feel you use your phone a lot, then more power to you. I think i'll save the difference and make the money stretch further. I can get an Apple Watch with the difference just as an example.

I just hope Apple put a decent amount of effort into the 7S and don't treat it as a budget device at a premium price. It'll be a flagship phone in its own right.

You’ll just touch the area under the notch. That’s where the status bar will be on apps if they’re not updated to support the new look. If they are, then the status bar is imply extended into the notch area so you can touch on that.

This was debunked and found out to be fake, FYI. One of the rounded corners in the top doesn’t match each other, the animations are different from those in iOS 11 and it’s super blurry.

Nah, I am just saying if someone is adamant about not paying the sticker price and can find a suitable replacement, they should go for it. Apple Tax cannot be calculated directly because software updates might mean an extra $50 to me. To you, it might be worth more. My iPhone SE has iOS for $180. My iPad has iOS for $280. So the Apple Tax varies per product as well.

Yes, you do get a lot from Apple, but that's if you want what they offer. You can get a combination of those things with other companies as well. Google's Pixel has a solid warranty and support system. Timely updates for about 2-3 years from them too. Google also puts monthly patches and will secure stuff as time goes on. It's not iOS security, but it is not porous as other Android OEMs.
Yeah, that is true.

Ok, I live in a country where the Pixel is not (yet) available, so I tend to forget about it. It is true, that the service seems to be better when it is sold directly by Google.
I also keep forgetting that not everyone is as heavily invested in the Apple Ecosystem as I am. And I am not talking about other devices, I mean more on my iPhone. There are so many Apps and Data that can not just be transfered (Calendar, Notes, Whatsapp for example) and most of all I have paid for so many Apps that it would be ridiculous for ME to switch.

I see why the Samsung S8 seems attractive. But for me it's just not an option. It would always feel like I'm sleeping with the enemy. And that is something a lot of us here seem to forget; We used to hate Samsung. And now suddenly y'all love Samsung.

Design compromise? The headphone jack was removed for more internal space so the iPhone X is possible.

The notch is specifically designed to get the maximal amount of screen space as possible.

“Maximize” at what price? What’s that notch going to do when watching videos in landscape mode for example?

"We"? I've never hated any phone brand. I appreciate them all for the competition & speeding up progression in smart phones.

Also think it's a ridiculous reason to not consider changing because they're "the enemy"? If they have a better phone for you, & you don't mind changing ecosystems, then it's perfectly reasonable to change.

For me, the ecosystem's a big thing - i've committed to IOS & it does what I want without much to complain about.

Logically thinking, the video won't extend into the notch area. There'll be a black bar at the left (notch) & maybe the right (to access Home screen).

Well, let's wait and see what they present on Tuesday. It's 5 days away and all our questions will be answered. That is why I hate leaks. A bunch of people already bash a phone they have not yet seen in action.

Oh, come on. We have all laughed at the Samsung phones before.

Ok, the enemy thing is a bit of a exaggeration. But for me the form factor of a phone is more of a vessel for the OS. So there is really no alternative for me. Android is just not polished enough for me, and the whole carrier branding thing is just a biiig no-go.

I find phone manufacturer fan bois more humorous myself.

I'm not saying you're one, as i've only read one of your posts, but if you know any, tell them to grow up.

I agree, but that’s also losing usable screen space, not maximizing it.

Yeah I don't think the promise will be more usable screen space in every situation. We should expect to see black bars for Videos/photos/games etc.

Still, the screen has increased in size, so the viewable area for these 'black-bar'd' Apps is higher.

We're not at a stage yet where absolute full screen can be utilised for every App & I don't think anyone's guaranteeing that.

Yes, but the notch has presumably the same height as the status bar. So you wouldn't be loosing that much screen estate, if they blacken it out, which I think they will do.

Because I used to get Apple's best for $799. Now if I want to get Apple's best I have to pay $1000. People wont be happy forking over money for an inferior model. My heart just wont be in it buying a reashed iPhone 6 design for the fourth time over

Hmmm... the "best" iPhone is $969... ;)

But I see your point.

It reminds me of Casper Mattresses. They said "We engineered the best mattress. Give us $800 for it..."

But now they have a better mattress for $1,600. o_O

You tap on the display and see new off-screen buttons or status where you otherwise would never have seen it. And even if they did absolutely nothing with it during videos (of course it will be black during videos, I'm referring to how videos currently function with menus coming up after you touch the screen for those who would read this without thinking), it wouldn't matter in the slightest because it does things during all other times when using the device. It's really really incredibly simple if you think about it for more than 0.004 seconds.

Which is why I said Apple need to put a decent amount of effort into the 7S. It's not a budget device despite being cheaper than the 8. If Apple treat it like a budget device at the previous premium price point then it shows poor form and a lack of respect for their customers IMO.

Doesn't seem like they are doing that though. The 7s seems to be just a 7 with a glass back and wireless charging.

Not really, the only difference between the $769 iPhone 7+ and $969 iPhone 7+ is storage, and which one you get depends on your needs. If you don't need 256GB of storage, then it doesn't mean the $769 iPhone is inferior to the $969 iPhone. It's literally the same phone except different storage capacities.

I use the same philosophy with the Plus models too. Many people class it as better than the standard edition because it has a better battery and camera etc. To me though it is inferior to my needs because it's physical size is totally impractical. It's all down to personal presences and what we prefer from the experience. :)

I have the S8 plus and it's going to be tough for me to get away from it because of that cut out on top. It's a real eye sore. Apple needs to black that out on top and blend it. Also FYI not biased towards any OS at this point I believe they are truly equal. There is nothing neither of them can do better albeit a bit differently. Having said that it looks like Apple is sloppy with this iteration. I've never been one to bring Steve Jobs up in regards to the company after him, but from what I have read he would have not allowed that notch on top lol!
