Maybe it's just me, but in any form having to worry about my iTunes window placement and app screen is a pain. It just seems so untidy. Just a personal opinion.

I have 4 desktops on my 1 monitor open at all times. iTunes tends to fill desktop 2 or 3 if I've only got Safari or whatever open. If I've got a load of stuff filling every desktop I close the iTunes window and use the function keys on my keyboard to flick through songs. With the little notifications that now appear in Mavericks it's made things a lot nicer.

Oh cool, Jony Ive discovered Tiger. Everything he makes software wise is ass backwards.

Next year 10.11 will come out and all the icons will look like OS 9. Because, you know, modern.

This looks worse than OS 9.

I am obviously in minority, but I do love flat design. Kinda elegant. At least to me. But don't really like all that blurriness, so I hope that we can turn it off just like in iOS 7 :)

I think I'm most excited to see what they do with iTunes. That program is long overdue for an overhaul.

Yeah right. It's not even 16x9...

To be fair, it is exactly the same image used on the poster.

Are we ever going to see the end of glossy icons for Mac OS X?

If these screenshots are true, the icons are there as just placeholders.

While I initially thought it looked ugly, actually it's not bad. e.g. I still use Dashboard a lot and I've been hoping for a Windows 8 style tile version. Looking at the new left/right sideboards in these screenshots, they look like tiled Dashboard gadgets. :)

If that dock can't be hidden or resized, this update isn't happening on my machines.

Dock Improvements

I use a Mac at home, but I use a Windows 7 PC at work (fwiw, I've never actually owned a PC). But one definite advantage to the PC's implementation of their 'dock' is that when you hover over an app (e.g. Firefox, Excel, etc.) you actually can see smaller, live images of the windows running under that particular app. This seems far superior to the Mac's version where you have to enter Mission Control and, even then, you're presented with multiple layers for the same app represented, as opposed to the side-by-side images of your open windows in W7.

so ivy is messing around with GUI meanwhile federighi is trying to slow down and bugging' even more that poor OS, bring back snow leopard!

The poster, using a throwaway account, claimed to have taken the photos himself at Apple headquarters in Cupertino, but did not offer any further details on how he was able to gain access to a system running the next-generation operating system.

They might be legit photos but something tells me that they didn't come about as the reddit poster claims. Because if they were taken at HQ there's likely only a few folks with access to the software at this point which means that that claim and posting those photos would be signing your firing slip.

More likely, assuming they are legit, they were taken during a dry run of this mornings keynote at Moscone by one of the many youngsters from the various stores that works as a page type figure. Might explain why they showed up so late in the game

That's one of the many points where they dumbed down the OS since Snow Leopard. Check this out, this is Exposé in "clear" mode (= 10.6 version):

Regarding the window previews on dock hovering, there's a 3rd party app called Hyperdock which does exactly what Windows does, and even a bit more for special apps.

Has OS X 10.10 but doesn't know how to take screenshots lol

If I am correct that these were actually taken at a dry run for this morning than they might not have wanted to risk being that close to the computer in order to take them, plug in a USB etc. Too likely he/she would get caught

----------

Why leak it now? If they had had access to the project would they not have leaked it earlier?

two possibles
1. they are lying about how they got the shots and didn't have access until this weekend
2. They aren't lying but knew that due to the limited number of folks that had access before now, it would be a quick investigation to find the person to fire over it. perhaps the thought was that no one would bother what with the keynote being in a couple of hours

I take it back, there is a third possibility. The conspiracy of the controlled leak. perhaps Apple did this to build up some hype and faked it to look like a random grabbed shot and figured if they look too clean someone would figure out it was a set up

I thought people would have accepted the flat iOS7 style by now. OS X was always going to be redesigned in a similar fashion.

Apple is not going to stick with the current outdated glossy look of OS X nor are they going to design a look that's different to iOS. They want one design language across all of their products. This was always coming.

I tend to agree with this. I think you are correct that they have been planning a common design for a while and iOS 7 was just a sample of that design.
