My iPad Pro 12.9" 1st gen still doing great. I don't see how folks make this their "computer". There are limits to this over sized iPhone no matter how Apple pushes and markets it, It will NEVER be a computer.
Why do people want iPads to be laptop computers? iPads are tablets. Just buy an iPad Pro and a MacBook Pro 16. To me, they overlap very little.

Wouldn't it be the THIRD Generation 11" iPad Pro and not the fifth? It WOULD, however, be the FIFTH generation 12.9" iPad Pro.
No, the 9.8 and 10.5 are counted as predecessors for the 11 inch. The exact size doesn’t matter because it just means the smaller iPad Pro.

So it’s looking more and more like there will be 2 x 12.9 versions... standard Apple with screen upgrades.

iPad 11 Pro - $799 (4G, A14X)
iPad 12.9 Pro - $999 (4G, A14X)
iPad 12.9 Pro Max - $1199 (5G, A14X (maybe Z) miniLED)

You heard it here first 😃
Prehaps there will be iPad Air Max?

iPad Air (11”)
iPad Air Max (12.9”)
iPad Pro (11” 5G)
iPad Pro Max (12.9” 5G)

iPad Pro seems to be continuing with sharp edges... i’d prefer the old, rounded corner style, because sharp edges are less comfortable for hands.

I too would prefer the front camera being on the right side, and not on top. I use iPP with a keyboard cover and scroll with my left hand. It blocks the light sensor and makes the use a bit annoying.

Having used the 2018 11" iPad Pro, "no major design changes" doesn't bother me one single bit. I've never used a more pleasant feeling computer. iOS on the other hand...

Huh. This got a good laugh out of me; I didn’t think literally anyone used their iPad flat…on a desk.

Maybe if their answer to a keyboard+trackpad didn’t cost $300? But with AirPods Max having just come out, I’ve lost hope in the idea of non-egregiously priced Apple products. It’s always been the name of the game.

(Save for the HomePod mini. I’ve got the full-size and the mini, can’t wholeheartedly recommend people spending $300 on the full-size unless they have money, but with the mini I’m just like—BUY IT! BUY TWO IF YOU CAN!!)

Anyway. It’d be nice to see a Pro upgrade, that’s another product of mine that’s…while certainly not failing, it’s aging, and I would love to see what kinda tech they put in the new-gen. LiDAR was tempting on the last upgrade but there was zero reason to upgrade besides that, lmao.
I actually take my 12.9 iPad Pro off the Magic Keyboard a lot when note taking, and admittedly, because it is the 2018 model, the camera module is much smaller than the 2020 and it literally doesn’t move at all. Maybe because the surface area is large enough the single lens bump doesn’t matter.

Since I'm bored I'll reply to this.

I said "I" don't see how folks make the iPad their "computer" like the only thing they use.

I get it, for those that only read and reply to emails, get on zoom calls, surf the web, check their bank accounts and what not but for me it is not enough.

My iMac is far better for my use. I have firefox, safari and chrome open each with at least 30 tabs open, photoshop, my trading platform running on windows. Plus I have another screen attached to the thing.

An iPad for me could never compensate. So for those that actually do multiple works an iPad will and never replace an actual computer.

I use my iPad just for media consumption. It's basically a mini TV for me. It's really meant for light use so again, the iPad can't replace an actual computer the way Apple like to say so thru their marketing.
Sure it can, and it does for lots of people. The iPad Pro isn’t targeted to users such as yourself. They didn’t say it can replace a desktop or laptop for everybody.

This is the absolute truth. iPadOS has and continues to be the only limitation to the iPad Pro.
With the power the iPad has I don’t know why Apple hasn’t given it full MacOS functionality like MS does with the Surface Pro.

At least give the user options on what they want to run. I’d say iPadOS as it is, full MacOS which looks and functions like the desktop, or a hybrid where it looks like iPadOS but you have the functions of MacOS.

Seems like their favored approach, as in "we believe we know what's best for our customers". Hence the basic lack of customizability on iOS on the iPhone after 12+ years.

True, felt that with the much-smaller camera bump. I can understand this complaint much more with the LiDAR camera set-up (not like I’m gonna yell at anyone who complains with the smaller camera bump, I’m not THAT uptight🤣)—and, granted, my Apple Pencil is barely functioning anymore, otherwise I’d probably be in your position. (Think I just need a new nib, buuuuuuuut…kinda embarrassing if this is how the AP functions when it needs a new nib, think it might need to be replaced as a whole)

Apple are a hardware company first - so they want to sell you ipads and Macs.

The camera bump is so annoying when you're using the iPad flat on the desk.
I couldn’t agree with you more. I could definitely feel the bump while using it as a note taking device. If there is a model without the camera, I would buy it just for that reason. I have been using iPads for years now and I never use the camera.

It will NEVER be a computer.

That is, EXCEPT if you only use a computer for email, music library use/management, note taking, drawing, light photo/video shooting/editing, light music production/creation, internet surfing, book reading, casual gaming, any computing task away from WiFi/Ethernet, or if you want to use it while standing or curled up on the couch/recliner, among other things.

Oh, and except if you don't want to learn to use a Mac or PC but know your iPhone inside-out.

Then, it is all the "computer" you'll EVER need.

I don't think Apple EVER positioned the iPad as an iMac replacement in the hardware/attributes sense.

You misinterpret their marketing. Apple targets the iPad towards people... those that, unlike you, DON'T need a Mac.

They advertise the experience of using it. And thus they posit the question to us: Do you REALLY need (or want) a Mac at all?

Trucks and cars, mate.

Limitation only to those that want the iPad to be (or truly replace) a laptop, really.

Which I can agree; it IS what I want. But that's because of ME, and my desire for the perfect 2-in-1 from Apple.

I feel we're 99% there: proper output to monitors and I'm good. Oh, and perhaps an even bigger iPad, like a 15".

USB-C, external drive and mouse/trackpad support were the biggest deal breakers for me and have now been addressed.

Hard disagree. I much prefer my iPad to be vertical. A landscape iPad would be a solid pass from me. No thanks.
When launched, the iPad sat on a vertical stand, like the iPhone. Things have changed in 10 years.

I honestly don't see who uses an iPad's front camera in portrait mode these days, but hey, to each their own.

Hell, I'd be okay with a camera-less iPad.

Aside from more refinement needed to file and window management and larger app support for keyboard and mouse, it is pretty much there.

I think the issues is more Apple trying to justify the existence of MacOS and iPadOS as two different product lines vs. a convergence of the two. It feels more ego driven to not admit that Microsoft had the right approach all along. Surface struggles with two incompatible architectures and no developer interest in tablet apps. Had windows phone taken off, I think that experience would be incredible today with a mix/match of PC and tablet experiences in once device.

Unlike Microsoft, Apple has all the pieces in place to actually execute this and do it well. An iPad pro full equipped with keyboards and accessories can be more money than a Macbook pro in some cases.

MacOS could totally run on an iPad now if Apple wanted it to. Macs and iPads using the same chip architecture is going to be interesting as we see what developers do especially as they stop supporting Intel machines over the next few years.
