No problem. I wasn't actually upset, of course! I hope that Apple makes us all happy soon. My guess is supplier problems. I don't think they're intentionally waiting this long for upgrades.

I too believe its supplier problems, and i don't think its IBM's fault either, could be new screens or Superdrives, or even the ATI new video cards. What the hold up is no one knows. All i know is that ive got a jones for a PM and everyone around here at school is wondeing when i am getting it as well as i have been talking about it for the last few months. All i know is that once i get the new rev PM i will be a happy camper and will not need a new desktop for a little while. Although i will be looking for a new Powerbook next summer before my educational discount is over.

not sure what this means, but i was in fry's burbank this weekend and noticed that they'd cleared out all of the old apple monitors except for a couple of ancient 15" lcd's that the store probably owns, and had on display the powerbooks, ibooks, imac, and a couple of g5's being run thru the 15" and that new gigantic 30" samsung. noticed as well that there were no boxes of product in stock re. "current"/old-style plastique monitors. draw your own conclusions.

of the samsung garganticon, i'd be really hyped about it if it weren't for the fact that maximum vertical resolution is 768. are they kidding? you'll pay less for a 32" plasma television with a computer video input and get higher resolution (i checked; it's true)! if that's the best anyone can do with a large-format lcd computer monitor, i'll take a 22" or 23" apple lcd on the second hand market any day of the week, thanks. please - what moron's out there spending $4k on that samsung monitor?

Really, people.

Why waste your time? You're contributing to a rather poor image of Mac adherents.

Why not spend the time writing to Apple and encouraging them to fix outstanding problems?

My bet is on colored aluminum, like the iPod mini. The consumer line will have cool colors, and the pro line will be the current silver, or maybe a darker aluminum. Who knows. I think Apple will be dropping the white plastic of the iPod, iMac, iBook soon.

I've read rumors that the G5 PowerBook will be made of carbon fiber. I think that would look pretty cool for the pro line. I'd love to see an 'artist's rendition' of that.

if apple released a gold or green aluminum screen i think i will personally go to j ives and shoot him.

i think they will phase out the burshed metal within a few years time, but i dont think it will hapenn within the next year

Please no green! Gold is very valuable, it would give it a very rich look.

If Apple phases out the brushed metal in a few years, what do you think will follow?

i think if they make a 30" display they should make it dvi compatible w/ a power cord port dealie so pc people would use it cause any huge other display is very low res and that would open up a new market for apple. the only exception i know of for that is the 9megapixel ibm display which is 8 grand, only works w/ ibm comps and requires a nvidia quadro (1500 dollars for a damn graphics card!) if it's colored aluminum i'd buy a pink one and dont call me gay. pink is just undeniably cool. if i only had a mac...

Carbon fiber would kick ass for a laptop. Strong, light, black.... and feels awesome.

Just imagine walking into xxx with a carbon fiber laptop.

Imagine the girls.... mmm.

still waiting for the next display...
hurry it up apple! my 12 inch powerbooks is killing my eyes!

only the best wood paneling for my mac!

Instead of Aluminum casing, my dream would be a re-issue of the G5 with lacquered wood paneling with black trim. I could even stand for the tower to be a little larger than the current G5. And please don't them allow for more than one optical drive. Lord knows that we don't need that option again! And it's not like we'll ever use zip drives again either, so I think we're safe.

And for the display, a matching woodtone would be nice for its casing, but I don't think my desk will hold anything larger than a 34" Display (I hope they don't go CinemaScope on us!), so that will be a factor as well. I love ADC, too. The more proprietary technology, the better!

Oh, wait! Granite would also be a great material. It's as expensive as amorphous metals, but probably a thousand times stronger! And it's not like it would be for the laptops, so who cares if it's heavier! Besides, gold says 'needy for attention' like nothing else!

Leaking aluminum doesn't seem safe for the environment..

Pin-striped plastics are SO ten minutes ago.

Actually, with all the stories about how easy the aluminum PBs are to dent, maybe you could "adjust" these with a mallet.

Personally, i like the pin stripes, but i do also really like that one in the picture above. Also, i don't think that many people plan on inteninally denting, or droping their $700-1000 investment.

Do you think the new iMacs are also getting the new screens (17 and 20...23??) and thats one reason they are being held off?

I'm not sure those iMacs necks would be able to support the weight of a 23 Cinema Display, do you?

Either they bought into a fake (which they as much admit to the possibility) or this is right around the corner. This web site usually doesn't post junk, so I'm kind of surprised that they bit on this one. Looking at the pics, I feel right off the bat that they're fake (it sits too far down and looks like it would easily tip over, given no back brace and very short feet) - and the info states that they'll be "...introducing it at the next Macworld Expo."

(supposed "side view" shown below - story and other pics at link above)

Again...this looks like a rehash of what's been around for quite a while now.

Those images have been floating around for a while, though I couldn't point you right at an originating source. They're nothing new and quite possibly just a mockup that someone made, like the aluminum dome iMac that's still drifting through the forums.

No, they say that it's coming at Worldwide Developer, not Macworld. They also state that there are no definitive screen sizes but that they're guessing 30" diagonal, but that the displays are lower power than their predecessors.

(supposed "side view" shown below - story and other pics at link above).

The "side view" looks like a badly smoothed render.

At least we are getting to see some actual ideas. I would prefer that the edges be rounded.

I'd love that in a sleek black look.
