I myself think the new look after this brushed aluminium could be something like transparent plastic that's been darkened, like in sunglasses. And there could be led-lighting inside. And a backlit desktop keyboard would be cool. For the displays, I think they'll have them with the same look as the G5.

They could also put one red eye near the top of them and name them Hal. :D

hmmmmmm

30" sounds nice, but how big a mortgage will i have to take out to afford one?
once the revision arrives, i'll be looking to find a 20" or 23" from the current range a bit cheaper than the current "large-intake-of-breath" expensive ones.
otherwise, i'll just get an NEC or Hitachi flatscreen.........

the refreshed product-line will feature 30-inch, 23-inch and 20-inch models, but will no longer include a 17-inch offering.

If the details are true, this could be really great!

With no 17", I would assume that the 20" will have to be in the $699 to $799 range. Really should be $699, in order to keep customers within the Apple family.

With the rebates on the 23", that would make the new 23" coming is at $1499, though $1399 would be a nice compromise.

Wow, this is looking great!

I don't know why they wouldn't expand the line up and offer a 17'' monitor for those who wouldn't want to spend however much a 20'' will cost from Apple... I personally am going to get the 23'' monitor asap... I am getting excited, I need a Apple monitor to accompany my new G5!

The article states that the 20" will be $999, the 23" $1,499-1,799 and the 30" will be $2,999. I guess we'll see for sure (if this even happens at all) next Monday...

That's why I think that the new 20" needs to be at $699. That would put it in the range of some of the 12" third party LCD's. And keep an important price point IMO.

I think AppleInsider had to pull their image - here it is for as long as it lasts:

(and for the record, it looks inherently unstable to me, so I think this may be off a bit, but I've been wrong before ;))

Bummer on the update on the expected pricing. $999 for the 20" and if true, no 17" Maybe they have to dwindle the inventory down on the 17" models before the change over.

any AGP video cards available to drive the 30 inch?

I'd like to get the 30 inch display, but, I'm not keen on buying a G5 until the 3.0 Ghz and PPC 975 are shipped. I have a 9800 in my dual 500 now, it won't drive the 30 inch, and I haven't come across any other compatible video cards that will.

BTW, these will be very desirable for MCAD systems. I have a 3.0 Pentium system set up for MCAD now that would really benefit from a 30 inch Cinema display, but, I would still have to track down a video card for that as well (it now has an nvidia GeForce FX 5200).

It looks a bit unsafe, but maybe it the stand connects to the top of the LCD. If that's the case, it'll bring more support towards the middle and make the unit sturdy. Just a guess, though.

Gee it looks nice (if it's real) but they cost an arm and a leg as it is. Why not make it out of plastic. Nice glossy white or light grey. Purple even, its plastic. Thats another reason apple stuff cost so much, all the extra stuff that don't actually make it run any better but yeah, it looks better. Like the iPod. If Steve is serious about dropping the prices, get rid of the metal glossy/shiny/mirrored back and stick a plastic one on. 99.9% of the time you're looking at the front anyway.

They will drive a 30 inch no problem even though the current drivers and sales literature do not say so. I'm positive of this.

Actually, it's quite useful at times. some of my friends use the back of my ipod as a mirror. it's actually quite useful at times.

The metal back is not chromed but polished stainless and on top of that it's metal to help cool the internals. It conducts the heat out and away from the internals. Also a polished surface cools better than and unpolished one. Chrome on the other hand holds heat.

Eyegonomic Already Makes the best LCD monitors, solid aluminum

www.eyegonomic.com

Small company in Denmark, all monitors are built to order. I've been eyeing those for a long long time now... As soon as the paper with presidents heads starts to flow in, i'm making a small investment toward one of these, either 19 or 24 inch.

That looks almost exactly what I would expect an Apple Aluminum monitor to look like! If only I had $$.... or maybe $$$

Exactly. Look at that massive single black cable coming out the back of it.... very cool.

As far as the design... not so sure that that'll pivot down.

If you go to the website, which i suggest you should, they offer any number of stands compatible with most models of monitors they offer to offer L-arm mount, and table mount, wall mounts, and other types of adjustable mounts.

Actually, though the article talks about lower profit margins, it also says this:

the article you quoted about iPod mini profit margins said that something may not be "directly effected," which makes me question the validity of the article.

maxx power: what's the pricepoint on those monitors. couldn't find anything on the web site (although, admittedly, I didn't look THAT hard).

Why would I do that when I can just order an apple branded lcd (which is exactly what I've been waiting for) on monday?
