Pfffff. A fake. Look at the trackpad: you can see the dock reflected on the glass. I don't see a dock on the desktop...

WHAT?!?!

they can't remove dual-link DVI or else the macbook pros won't work with the 30 inch Cinema Displays.

and if they remove the firewire 400 then they better provide a firewire 800 to 400 adapter or else I and a lot of other people will really be pissed off. And they will have to add another 800 port - many people need 2.

Plus isn't a firewire 800 port the same height as a 400? plus an ethernet port is taller than both so how can they reduce the footprint?

Apple should really give up this stupid secrecy about new product launches.

I want to make an informed choice before I am investing large amounts of money in a new computer and it seems the market has now reached a kind of state where 'new' computers introduces 'improved' features just for the sake of being different than the former model. If they are getting rid of (for some people) vital features, these people might just be better of to buy the current model. However, due to all this secrecy and hype a lot of people wait it out and I fail to see how this is benefiting anybody....

Why not just post the pic? So here's the pic he links to above: What's interesting, is what appears/looks like the dock in the track pad area. Perhaps the reason for the rumored Glass Track Pad? Hmmmmm? Time will tell. ;)

Except, it's not 100% recycleable. It's anodised, so it's not 100 percent.

It's funny, though, I don't consider Apple to be anywhere close to even resembling a "green" company.

I didn't know/realize that, thanks for the info!

It is certainly more recyclable then the current macbook plastic casings though.

Joking, right?

Dock display in the trackpad wouldn't work - not like that anyway. Using the current design of the dock there is far too little space to do it elegantly. Look at the supposed dock on the trackpad - there's, what, 6 or so items?

Looks good even though it's not real.

The implication is that the dock is in the trackpad... ie, the trackpad is not only glass, but an interactive touchscreen.

Sounds horrible to me. My fingers would always be tapping the dock by accident. I would say it is fake just 'cause Apple wouldn't make such a stupid design.

It's an "all rumours in one" MBP. It's not just a glass trackpad. It's a glass track pad with a screen. Think iPod Touch.

No problem :)

Yes, they certainly are.

Please, use common sense. The dock is ON the glass trackpad (like iTouch or iPhone screen)

I'm not sure if it is real or fake but I certainly hate the black keyboard. MBP should have silver one, it goes great with the style and it looks way better than the black one. The black keyboard looks very cheap and dell to me. :(

They would be CRAZY to change their secrecy policy. They get months of free publicity and hype out of it. You CAN make an informed decision. Wait until its released, read reviews, then wait for the Rev B to come out and buy it, fully informed.

For the amount of cash they take in and have on hand, I'D say there Green!--)) ;)

What the hell is behind the guy in the Photo Booth image? That might give us some answers on the real vs. fake front...

What I'm hearing

Removal of optical drive to an external unit, extra ports on the external unit, maybe more display options with the external unit. Are we describing a docking station for the MBP?

I love Apple products, but what you said is not the truth.

Agreed, and from another hog fan no less :)

I have seen better spec'd lappys in best buy less than the $1k MB on the next aisle, period. There is no "myth" this was or that, it's a fact. Combine that with the occasional instant rebate and it's a tough market.

Ok, fine, I don't think apple needs to loose money, but they have to be more competitive.

Yes, vista stinks in so many ways. Yes macs are usually ( don't ask me about my old dead macbook ) built better and their OS is tops, but they have to figure out how to get the buyer who has a price point in mind.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

FWIW. My friend delivers to ingram micro. Including today they have been receiving skids via UPS & FedEx freight of laptops. Ingram then supplies apple stores usually a day or 2 prerelease based on apple's direction. Maybe they are the current generation laptops but you'd have to doubt it if updates are as imminent as they sound. Again just for what it's worth.

What is if I don't like some of the 'new' features that Apple sends upon us?

A lot of people actively started to buy 1st gen iPhones - AFTER the iPhone 3G came out. I somehow see the same happening in the computer world: I would love to buy a 12' MacBook (they stopped offering it a while ago, and all 'informed choices' in the world are not bringing it back)...

I doubt yanking the optical drive would change the size of the case that much in a MB. Size of the case is controlled by the size of the LCD screen + bezel and thickness of HDD.

I'm pretty sure that the current thickness is a little more than a drive plus plastic on both sides. And if not... then taper like with the Air. Pulling the optical frees up a lot of space.

But thinness isn't really as important to me as weight. Carrying this thing through an airport for a couple hours starts to get painful. Any grams they can shave would be wonderful.
