Do you mean rumors that seem to be somehow credible? Because apart from outwards appearance (aluminium, keyboard, screen) similarity to the Air seems to originate in idle speculation on this (or perhaps others as well) forum. I don't know where people got that idea of new MacBooks being so much thinner and lighter. Perhaps because deep in their hearts they want an Air, but for MacBook price? ;)

The part about it being light is just my wishful thinking but the part about it being thin is looking at Apple products recently thin seems to be important.

I love panasonic toughbooks. If only Apple would create something as tough as panasonic toughbook in a sexy package!

I hope the screens stay at 15" and 17" AT 16:10. I like being able to fit a menu bar and a dock (albeit hidden most of the time) and still have 16:9 in the middle of the screen.

And make the MacBooks and iMacs 16:9 ratio then?
How about that?
16:9 ratio: consumer
16:10 ratio: "pro"

Nice compromise there.

I just saw some interesting predictions on Mac Soda
Thought some people might like a look
http://macsoda.com/2008/09/30/mac-sodas-official-brick-event-predictions/
:)
Here's my take on those predictions:

October 14 event: Definitely.

MacBook case: Yup yup yup. As I thought. Silver with black. They say the keyboard will be black, and I thought it would be white. So I guess black = notebook and white = desktop.

MacBook components: Agreed. I expect 2.27/2.4 GHz.

MacBook Pro: I don't see quad-core (too hot) or Blu-ray in them. But the rest of the details I agree with. Especially the improved GPU. :)

MacBook Air: Agreed. I always thought there would be a price drop in the next revision.

MacBook Mini, "Mac": I don't see this as much more than wishful thinking, especially given the lack of other rumors on these. But the MacBook Mini's 11" display means that there would be a full keyboard and a decent display resolution.

16:9 aspect ratios: 9 to 5 mac says 16:9 (same sizes as Mac Soda) while AppleInsider says 13"/15"/17". I think they will be 16:9 but with smaller display bezels to resemble 16:10's in physical case size.

Nonremovable battery and glass trackpad: I can really see these happening.

I hope the screens stay at 15" and 17" AT 16:10. I like being able to fit a menu bar and a dock (albeit hidden most of the time) and still have 16:9 in the middle of the screen.
Really good point there. I agree with that.

That's good, in that it would eliminate the 1920·1200 » 1920·1080 and 2560·1600 » 2560·1440 downgrades.

Attachment: Size comparisons of current and rumored displays. I'm not too convinced that a smaller bezel will completely help with those who want a physically smaller case.

I have a question for you.
Do you think a lot of people will be mad when the Mac laptops switch to 16:9 ratio or will this transition be almost "silent"?
Thanks.

People will probably like it, since everyone's hyped about "widescreen" this and that these days. I've seen plenty of flat panel TV's that look to be 16:9 - though don't quote me on this because I personally don't watch tv so I'm not an expert on tv's - they just look really wide. :)

it will not have a 16:9 aspect ratio that came from some random person in the "brick" thread that the brick could be 16:9 for the macbooks but its not its a tablet. Yes, Steve told me personally.;)

16:9 ratio: consumer

Nice compromise there.

Why is there a need to go wider? I've always thought 16:10 was the perfect compromise between 4:3 and 16:9. What's next, 2.35:1 displays? :(

I actually think the average consumer cannot tell a difference between 16:9 and 16:10 ratio panels (when they are looking at the laptop).

I think…
  1. A group of people will be outraged at the 16:9 transition.
  2. A group of people will be outraged at the increased display size ( = increased case size).
  3. A group of people will be outraged if the resolution goes down, in one way, both ways, or by the total pixel count.
  4. A group of people will be satisfied, as long as the resolution doesn't go down (I'm in this group).
  5. A group of people will praise the increased display size.
  6. A group of people will praise the 16:9 transition.
Although most people will be in group 4, groups 1 and 2 will be the loudest on these forums.

Absolutely. :D

It's a good chance the upcoming notebook revision will be 16:9. When do you think the rest of the Mac and display lineups will go 16:9?

iMac = 16:9
Cinema Display = Could be either 16:9 or remain at 16:10 just for "pros". Not really sure about the Cinema Display.
MacBook Air = 16:9 (thus explains why the MacBook Air has not been updated yet. MacBooks and MacBooks Pros are going to get 16:9 ratio displays first.)

the trackpad at 19$ made me laugh

no, seriously, does it bothers a lot of people if its 16:9 instead of 16:10
because personnally, i dont really care
what do you think guys?
Ive been googling but i cant seem to find anything other than forum discussions about it.

can someone post a visual comparison?

I personally dislike 16:9 for computers because I dont like carrying around what i call super rectangles.

16:10, i have no clue what that even looks like.

I think 16:10 is the one that Apple currently use
correct me if im wrong

It is like halfway between 4:3 ratio ("square ratio") and 16:9 ratio.
It is fine but I prefer 16:9 wide.

Also, the wider it is to me, the more "natural" it feels for me for some reason. Must have to do with peripheral vision and all of that stuff.

I'm with AppleInsider on this. Ever since the predictions about new MacBooks appeared on computerworld, I think iPod Nano was the last accurate rumor 9to5mac had, for some time at least.

:D BT touchpad...

Well, since two sources are saying 16:9 ratio then it is very very probable now 16:9 ratio is coming to Mac in this coming update.
I say 95% probable. :D

I know its maybe off topic
but I think the main difference between the macbook and macbook pro is gonna be :
-blue ray(Im sure 100% mbp will have them)
-touch screen on the trackpad(like in all the previous mockups)
-bigger screen and better graphic(like its always been)

feel free to add:)
