They're not certified workstation cards, like what you get in the 'professional' lines of other manufacturers.
If you spent less time assuming you know what figures on a spec sheet mean, maybe you'd be surprised what apps do actually take anywhere (if at all) near the full advantage of gpus.

theres not that much of a difference between the mb and the mbp if it's not the price

The difference between the mbp and macbook is questionable Dan. If you look at it simply, you're paying a fair premium for discrete graphics. Apple don't offer a 'pro' gfx chipset for any of their laptops, and what apps other than games really take advantages of them anyway?

fine name me the differences
The black macbook has an even bigger hd so, yeah go ahead

Hahaha, well off the top of my head how about 15" and 17" screens, Aluminum body, faster processors, better graphics card, express card slot, multi-touch, better speakers, backlit keyboard, extra USB 2.0 port, DVI output, FireWire 800, can drive a 30" Cinema...

Yeah, and that's what me and the angry mob are looking at when we whine about silly prices.

ok fair enough
the screen size : I agree
aluminium : the new macbooks WILL have aluminium (so it doesnt count)
faster processors : yes, you can upgrade, but the low end is the same like the macbooks
better graphic cards : yes
express card slot : who cares, really???
multi touch :the new macbooks will have something similar
better speakers: for 2k machines theyre not that great, are they
backlit keybord : the new macbooks will have it probably
extra usb :-_- cmon you have to pay an additional grand to have it
fw 800 :fine
30inch :fine

So my conclusion, by paying 550$ more, thats what you get
15 inch screen size, better graphics, express card slot, thats pretty much it (if we take in consideration that the new macbooks will have some of the above)

On the low side, you loose 50gb hard drive and 550$ from your pocket
(plus, if you wanna get the Apple care, add 100$), etc, etc.

Up to you to decide if its worth it

Even if both ranges were brought upto date with the newest hardware, the macbook is just as bad value for money (the hardware).

Then YOU and your angry mob should be looking at the MacBook not the MacBook Pro. ;) :p :)

dont argue anymore
it's not even an opinion, it's a fact:the macbook pro is too expensive compared to the macbook!

By choosing the mbp, you get some extra features(not a lot though) and the word PRO on it.
Thats it!

Some people need and want those features though jojo, which makes a macbook worthless to them.

My issue is value for money throughout the entire range, and the acceptance (from some) that a discrete gfx chipset (and a few other 'extras') warrants such a premium price.

ok, it may sound like a really stupid reason to want a computer, but this is only one thing.

I REALLY hope that the new MB will have a backlit keyboard, really really hope.

as far as GPU, the only reason I'm hoping for a better chipset, is for the other people that want it, i dont do anything GPU intensive at all.

jojo, we get along right? dont take this personally, but opinion is NOT fact.

some people buy luxury cars and dont think their overpriced.

I totally agree with you except that for someone who is not gonna use them a lot, is it worth all this extra money?

I'm not saying the mbp is just a mb with the word pro on it, just that it would be cool if it hads some extra features that the mb cant compete with(bluray, touch screen trackpad, bigger hd, faster CPU with the entry level)

ok ok fine, it was an opinion :D
look, even if im saying all this, i might even get a mbp myself (look at my signature) just for the premium:D

so yeah, we get whatever we like and we enjoy our purchase :D

Aluminum body, backlit keyboard
Those will not count any more with the new MacBook. So, get those out of your head. :p

Back-lit Keyboard: Agreed

I deleted the points you already agreed with me on...

So, you are comparing the NEXT MacBook with the current MBP? Are you assuming the MBP won't receive any update?
That handles your Aluminum, Multi-Touch and Backlit keyboard arguments...

People who use express cards to have internet anywhere DEFINITELY care about an express card slot.

I said better speakers, not 12" woofers. :p

And right, an extra USB port is not worth $1000, I think that was your best point. :)

ok fine:)
lets stop arguing and lets hope the new macbook AND macbook pro
WILL ROCK :D:D

Absolutely not! They should buy a MacBook!

Who says they won't?

They will and they probably will fly off the shelves. :)

Cannot wait to see a $599-$700 MacBook Mini by the way. ;)
