I totally agree with you except that for someone who is not gonna use them a lot, is it worth all this extra money?
No, but for someone who will use them a lot, it's worth it. So it depends on what your needs are.

Do you see a separate MacBook Mini/MacBook Touch coming?
Maybe, if so, MWSF most likely. Next likely is October 14.

Exactly, it also flies in the face of the supposed case leak photos.
Good point there. Do the MacBook photos also imply a removable battery or is it just the MacBook Pro?

As long as the resolution doesn't decrease then I'm fine. So since my iBook's 1024·768, 1280·800 (16:10), 1366·768 (16:9) and up are good. I fear Apple will put 1280·720 on the MacBooks.

Sure:

That one on the left is a little visually misleading only in terms of the vertical space we'd be losing. Its because it divides the loss equally on the top & bottom so it doesn't look so bad the way it is. Drop the 16:9 image down so their bottom edges are on the same plane & you'll see a different aspect as to exactly how much real estate will be gone.

Then YOU and your angry mob should be looking at the MacBook not the MacBook Pro. ;) :p :)

Agreed! I'd be absolutely fine if the price of the MBP went UP if it meant a better machine. Give me quad-core now w/ a 500 gb drive & 8gb of RAM....I'd pay for that to happen! ...prices going down is fine & dandy but I'm more interested in a beautiful machine that is solid & won't break down due to cheap internals.

My friends who want the cheapest parts possible always go for PCs.

Preach it brother!

It was about 10 posts ago. ;)

If Apple made the MB battery non-removable it'd only be to further cripple it from the Pro/make it 'thinner'.

Apple, just print an Apple logo on a sheet of aluminum foil and call it the MacBook SuperAir. Jeez.

I think if Apple plans on making a netbook/tablet then that'd be a good reason to release the updates now and still have a bombshell for January.

I don't know about the statement "the MacBook event was originally scheduled for September 29." I never saw that before.

Quad core would require more power, be hotter, way more expensive, and in return deliver little or no performance increase at least until Snow Leopard.

I deleted the points you already agreed with me on...

So, you are comparing the NEXT MacBook with the current MBP? Are you assuming the MBP won't receive any update?
That handles your Aluminum, Multi-Touch and Backlit keyboard arguments...

People who use express cards to have internet anywhere DEFINITELY care about an express card slot.

I said better speakers, not 12" woofers. :p

And right, an extra USB port is not worth $1000, I think that was your best point. :)

Hey, I have an old Powerbook G4 and have used the PC Card a looooooot. So I care about it.

Good News!!!!

Good News!!!!

i work for a large electronics retailer in Australia and we have started our 10% off all computers including Apple.........and apple computers fly out the door when we do this deal because 10% off is the best price u are going to find anywhere for apple computers. This sale is done usually to clear current apple stock and make way for the new models which should be coming soon!

Highly irritating :) I'll reply!
Why would anyone be 'absolutely fine' with prices going up? I guess your 'cheap internals' comment sums it up.

Why don't you compare the cost of apple laptops (post refresh) against the same parts used in 1000s of other manufacturers and decide for yourself if and how much premium to pay for 'a beautiful machine' ?

Nonremovable battery and glass trackpad: I can really see these happening.

that would be ridiculous. i don't think there's a single MB or MBP user in the world that would want their batteries to be non-removable. that would also mean that they could not upgrade their RAM without taking it in to a shop to get it done for them, which (unless it's covered under warranty) would unnecessarily cost the user money for something they've been able to do at home for a long time.

not to mention the headache of having to take the computer in each time they need to get a new battery.

discostu668, I agree.

Also, is the HDD user-removable in the newer MBPs, like it is in the MacBooks? That was a great idea to not void warranty and be able to replace HDD/RAM yourself. If this feature isn't in the current MBPs, I hope it's in the new ones.

Thanks for the info, can't wait for next Tuesday, I wanna see that "Let's Mac" ticket.

i don't know. i was just commenting on the thought of the MB and MBPs having non-removable batteries. i just think it would be a bad idea to restrict users from doing any minor upgrades/hardware replacements (such as battery and RAM) themselves.

as far as i know, HDDs have been "user-removable", but doing so outside of apple or an aasp automatically voids the warranty. i've never known it to not void the warranty and i doubt this will change with any future model of MB or MBP.

Yes your reply was highly irritating. ;)
I'll tell you why, because I do remember when Apple computers were actually expensive...people who complain now don't know what you're bitching about. I don't care if PCs are cheaper....THAT is my point.
Back when Macs were even MORE expensive than they are now they lasted LONGER and didn't break down nearly as often. It was only when they started using cheaper PC parts so that they could compete w/ PC prices that they started to fall apart more frequently. I've never once had to take a Mac in for repairs *knocks on wood* but after reading all the horror stories on these forums abo modern Macs I've decided to start buying AppleCare.
Listen to me closely, there is no free lunch. You either pay now or you pay later. Wish all you want for cheaper computers but its you the consumer who will pay for that when your warranty runs out. My experience in buying high end electronics is almost always positive. I paid more than double for first Mac than my pal who bought a PC...he went through about 4 of them by the time I needed a new one.

The thing is, the specs on an internal doesn't always tell the story. Look at a box and compare why one HD is more than another....they're both 500gb & 7200 but one just costs more. Why? Its probably a Seagate and has better materials & craftsmanship. If you're looking at a MB sure getting the cheapest unit possible makes perfect sense. I'm talking about the PRO line here and don't want cheap components. If anyone is overly concerned about the price of the MBP I strongly suggest you probably should be looking at a MB instead. Make sense? :apple:

I just don't see apple going to nonremovable batteries in the MB/MBP. How would we change the hdd or RAM?

I don't see it either. But even if they did, there would just be an alternative way of accessing RAM. The next MBP will probably support 8GB; not many folk would purchase that much at outset.

Easy to change HDD drive would be really nice though :)

oh i agree. making the HDD user-removable without it voiding the warranty would be a pretty nice option!

i suppose they could make an alternative way of accessing the RAM if they made the battery non-removable. but it still wouldn't make any sense to make it that way.

complete bollix lad apple use ordinary pc components, there is nothing special about them, apple simply up the prices because they can because of the styling, osx, the brand.
