Which is exactly why I was being so cynical about it. There's too much focus on margin and not enough on quality these days at Apple.
There aren't 8-bit notebook panels, and BD-ROM does not sit high on most priority lists. It's a bullet point aspiration for most. Anyone who really wants one can get an external drive.

Nobody else really cares to deal with the expense, thickness, and battery drain the devices cause. Beyond that, only a small minority of US households have anything on Blu-ray to begin with. It's nothing like the revolution that DVD provided. It's a capacity bump most people don't even care about.

Using notebook BD-ROM as a mark of "quality" is foolish at best.

If the new MBP doesn't have a backlit apple logo I'll wall to Steve's house to spank his ass and punch him in the face !!

maybe in the next revision, the back lit logo will match the keyboard color! so white on black keys, match with black logo with white glow. so black/gray on white keys will match with white logo with black/grey glow!!! LOLOLOL

does anyone remember this?

i think it's for a 13" macbook to be released with the new montevina platform. the redesign is most likely to accommodate the front side bus of the new platform. pity it'll still have penryn processors.

it kind of makes sense to make the macbook aluminium as apple have stated that they're moving to use greener materials (which aluminium is over the chemicals used to produce the existing plastic cases) AND it would bring all their products in line design wise (even their most iconic product - the ipod, has made the change from plastic to metal).

i expect them to drop mid august. just enough time for all the iphone hype to die down.

yeah, but the iphone dropped from polished metal to plastic! how about that? :D

mmmm yes, that would be nice.

To obtain a more vibrant color, a different angle of dispersion, brighter, generally more control such as blinking/pulsing to signify different states.

Maybe, who knows, but I would have chucked an LED in there years ago personally.

That would be an amazing look! It would look so nice with a black keyboard.
Someone should attempt a mock-up.

I don't know what the camera angle is, but that does look like it's meant to hold a screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio, to echo an earlier poster. Looks a lot like my 12" PB.

Shouldn't we expect more pictures at different angles if it were legit?

New MB Pro

Maybe the iSight can be changed to include a little projector that shines an Apple logo onto the user's face or even better - forehead!

Don't tell Steve Ballmer though when he's using his MB Pro to show some stupid Windows presentation...
(although admittedly he'll be too busy waddling around the stage - maybe this links in with the "positional prism" technology Apple have patented - it would follow him round the stage!)

You didn't get my point at all.

I was saying that they made quite a few mistakes with quality AND not very user centered politics (by not including Bluray).

Besides you made quite a few mistakes yourself. First of by assuming I care what most people buy. Or most US households. I'm not living in the US and I do care about movies on Bluray.
And please don't start the argument about downloads. Not unless they are 1080p24 and you buy me a 6TB RAID to store that stuff on.
The price of the drive? Are you all 14 years old on this forum all of a sudden? Doesn't anybody remember the first DVD Drives? Let me help you: back then people like you said "Nobody else really cares to deal with the expense, thickness, and battery drain the devices cause."

Well...

Then there's the 8 Bit vs. 6 Bit Debate. 6 Bit Panels did exist. And still do.

If you position yourself as a high class brand and want words like "design" associated with you, you better learn what design really means. I'm pissed at that company because I like it. I'm not pissed for example at Microsoft because they don't mean anything to me

I hope they would do something new, and different. But so far i am not to impressed by the design, even if this photo turns out to be true.

I too agree that they should try and make the logo backlit some how, i think that it would look sexy.

No backlit Apple logo!

No sale!
Being that the laptop is not fully assembled and just the aluminum shell. There is no way to determine what phase of development it is in. The embossing of the Apple may be done in a 4 step process. Punch and emboss the leaf, punch and emboss the bottom and a big punch and emboss the middle. Laser and Water cutting systems are great for custom metal jobs. However a hard die cut and emboss on a metal punch machine is a lot faster. Now the last step may have been to remove the back part of the Apple for the back lighting. Also they may replace the back lighting method so there would be 2 or 3 LEDs in the holes.

This looks more like the rumored potable imac. The top half is the screen and the bottom half is the keyboard very similar to the HP TouchSmart and the Sony VAIO LT.

I think I can still hear the echos of those certain a redesign will never take place.

Looks like a bigger battery located at the back judging by the little rectangle cutout for a release latch.. could be the same size though just different shape.

And I'm sure the logo will be backlit.

NOT excited about the idea of having the same keyboard from the MacBook Air...

And I don't really see anything special in that picture, but hey, maybe I am too much in love with my MacBook Pro :D

backlit logo

this photo doesn't indicate that there's no backlit logo, the two outermost circles in the centre are likely explained by being the part that a plastic logo would clip into, while the centre hole could be where the light from the lcd enters to light the logo.

All-day battery is coming!

The case design seems to use huge battery. What is even more interesting - they seem to have put the battery to the end of the case. This would make it possible to create extended batteries that are thicker than the case itself and would raise the back of the laptop.

With my limited Chinese ability, I translated the blog article. Sorry it is so rough. [Anything in brackets are notes made by me]

Two days ago my good friend Ariel brought over two pictures.
These are the ones we have been eyeing for quite some time...

They are very reliable plans.

If you think that the Macbook Air feels like a dustpan and not like a 'pro' machine, wait a bit.

This summer don't participate in the 'Back-to-School' event, [I believe the gist of this sentence is to encourage the reader not to buy an MBP in the summer. The literal translation is: "this summer don't buy student-special-case". I just guessed that "student-special-case" is probably some promotion, i.e: Apple-Back-To-School. I dunno if they have that in Taiwan]
The newest Macbook Pro is coming out...

The first small part I want to reveal to everyone is that
the Apple logo on the top case will no longer have a backlight.
Before, the 'apple' on the top case had a special glowing shine to it.
This recent version of the Apple Logo
is very similar to the Apple logo on everyone's iPhone or iMac.
It's not dazzling anymore.

This time around, the outside of the MBP is very similar to the MBA and iPhone 3G:
They all have adopted new designs.
Therefore, professionals and [other types of people],
should stop making orders for MBPs. [I am not 100% about this line, it is an educated guess]
I wait for you to get your new MBPs and congratulate me [presumably, the blogger wants recognition for leaking this].

Looking at the bottom casing of the prototype photographs,
you might think it's strange that the measurements do not match up with the top casing.
This is intentional, because
the Macbook Pro's battery this time around is a large, long shape. [rectangle(?)]
Not like the properly shaped square from before.
Regarding the keyboard, it is a very similar design to the MBA.

Actually, I think that the new MBP is not surprisingly gorgeous.
If you still want to know more predictions and details, (such as front side plans)
remember that other than reading offical Apple news,
you should also frequently read my unprofessional [I think he means that he's not getting paid for it, so, 'unofficial' would probably be a better word choice] blog.
"
Again, this is a very rough translation, but I hope it helps you folks and brings some more speculation and discussion :D. I did my best, sorry if there are a couple things off, but I think I got the general gist of it.

Also, if there are any native speakers that can correct my work, I'd greatly appreciate it :).

too big to be a MacBook, i believe.

and i hope they make the logo black glass, i don't care if its back-lit or not, its not like I ever see it.

If this is real, which it seems, I can't put into words how excited I am right now.

This may be trivial, but no backlit logo???? Wow.... That's a big turnoff..

Why put individual LED's in when it's sitting behind a full LED screen/backlight? That's how the current backlit logos work.

arn

Maybe have the logo blink like the sleep light does on current models? Change the current model's sleep light to an "any" light. Customizable to the users likings. It blinks for HDD usage or connectivity, "new mail" blink, new IM blink, or just off completely. That would require a separate LED in the logo, unless you wanted your screen to strobe while sleeping. ;)
