I have it on the Galaxy S8 and there is zero issues when it comes to burning from always ON. Because it does shift across the display and does not stay on same spot all times. And since iPhones have no LED notification indicator, I really think they should implement always on display. There are times when my phone is on the desk, u just want to glance on it for any messages, knowing this without having to tap on the screen or picking up the phone is great for me. I hope they will implement it.

I can see them doing this in IOS 12. With Ive saying X will be growing and doing things it isn't doing right now. An always on display makes sense. The technology is right there in our hands already.. but then again Apple Watch could already do this too but it hasn't.

I really wanted a similar feature, we created an app that resembles something like this, expect that you will have to open it manually. It prevents burn-in in on the iPhone X lock screen by taking jumps each hour and has various of features. Search OLEDX on the App Store if you want to check it out. However i am not sure if the app will be around for long.

Thanks for the tip, your app is actually pretty good. Even though it's not a true AOD, the fact you can turn it on during a meeting and just glance to see the time is useful.

I'd suggest the option of making the text not as bright and to move the image a little more often.

You can already change the apps brightness by panning on the interface up or down while keeping the device brightness on auto as the instructions haven't been added yet. While moving the interface more often can be tweaked on the next update. For now you can tap the screen to make the interface 'jump' manually.

I have found the change in screen on time for the X interesting. I use my phone as sort of a secondary night light when I get dressed for the gym in the AM. I used to only have to swipe the screen once during the middle of the process. Now I probably have to do it 6 times. I'm sure it is to prevent burn in and I've gotten used to it but it was a bit of a surprise / change to me.

The notification light and AoD extremely convenient on my SGS8. Apple should totally implement it.

Nice job! Yeah, it's an app, but it's pretty effective in providing same general functionality. Think I'm going to buy the premium :)

Thanks. There are a bunch of more features that can be implemented that would be quiet useful and i'm looking into it.

NO way apple going to give this to their users.....

I don't think it's Apple not wanting to "Give" as much as they're choosing to not utilize an always on display. You Have to remember, Apple is always different on how they do things and even though the possibilities are there for certain features, it's just their specific way of wanting to implement capabilities differently.

I hate the AOD, when I had the Galaxy A3(broke my iPhone screen) as a cheap replacement phone, the first thing I did was to disable the always on display - it annoys the hell out of me

I like the AOD but turned it off as I wanted to be cautious with screen burn in. The indicator lights I find a bit more useful just not when it' charging. I don't need the red light telling me the phone is charging.

I think they'll implement it in the watch before the phone - cut their teeth on it there as they did with OLED.
They may already have the logic in their display controller for doing the shifting to prevent screen burn....we don't know.
WatchOS 4.3 anyone? ;)

Yeah but when apple intro it to the iPhone then its the greatest thing since.......

I’d love that! Apple keeps taking about the X is a canvas for a bunch of upcoming features that will shape the phone to its fullest potential, but they only release new features once a year = ios 12. Basically, their words are bull.
