You can put AOD on a schedule so it automatically disables after a certain time and come back on when you want. Also, utilize DND on a schedule so notifications don't display in the middle of the night. Not sure what the music controls have to do with AOD. You saying you had music controls on the AOD? You also don't have to wake your phone to see the the artist and track because it's right there on the AOD.

Yeah you could activate music controls on AOD but you had to actually swipe to get them which was a bit tedious.

Here is an app you can use for "always on." I have it and it works well.
Nice app but it needs to be dimmable and maybe offer an auto dim option. Also I guess Change Colors is part of the Premium but it chases every time ii hit it.

Also not locking is a BIG issue but being a 3ed party app that can't be avoided.

That’s rather ironic you say that because the iPhone X is all swipe gesture now but you don’t find that a bit tedious?

Is like rain on your wedding day? A free ride when you’ve already paid?

In all seriousness though. I just thought the controls should have been on the same page instead of swiping to get them. Just a very small annoyance. Like I said earlier, I liked AOD when I had the Note 8. Now that I have the X, I don’t necessarily miss it either. One of those nice features but not a needed one.

It is dimmable, I think you hold on the screen and drag up and down to dim and brighten. I tried it a couple weeks ago.

*Apple gets AOD*

Apple defenders: "I love AOD! Apple implemented it so much better than Samsung". (although it's the same exact thing).

Just noticed a 'nice' feature. Wondered what it had proximity sensor feature since you are not going to be talking on your iPhone with the app on. However this cuts it off when in your pocket. In hindsight it is obvious but I only assosuateod the sensor with using the phone (what it is designed for).

Nah. That's subjective. Some people prefer pop and some people find realistic color boring and dull. When I watch movies, I like my movies to pop out at me unlike soap operas that have drab colors.

What a weird area to be subjective about. Oh well. I'm happy I'm of the mindset that I'd like to see an artist's work the way he or she intended. Also glad I prefer to see the world the way it is objectively represented in my captured photos and videos.

The 8 plus and X do have popping colors, more so then the Samsung. In the camera department.

Taken with an X
Very difficult to shoot birds as they are never still

The color changing feature currently is not working, and although it has been fixed quiet a while back that app update has been pending App Store review for quiet a while. Implementing a locking mechanism is something that is doable for the iPhone X, i'll look into it if all goes well with the following updates.

I have an iPhone 8 and was wondering if there was a way to have like an always on display feature that says the time, maybe some notifications, etc.

Thanks.

I think it may come to the iPhone X with iOS 12 because it has the OLED display.

It won’t come to any other iPhone though.
