WHY?
Have you heard about "cloud" computing???? Why would I need a 64 GB phone when I can have a 100GB cloud service? Every user is different, and I listen to raw audio, so I HAVE to go to the cloud in order to get what I want. If your an MP3 fan, 16 GB's can supply MORE than you can listen to on a commute.

People with tiered data plans don't think like you do. Some of the movies I watch is 8gigs in size.

Apple should be even more. Samsung will just release a better S5 prime with 32gigs and make it $100 on contract. 2 months later the phone will be free on contract. What's Apple going to do; give the iPhone 5s 8gigs of memory and knock off $50?

Huh? Why would Apple do anything since the Fire Phone is selling for more than the 5s will be in September and the same price as the iPhone 6. This will affect high end Android OEMs more than anyone.

This.

It looks like a nifty phone, but I won't likely be jumping ship from Samsung for it. And I still don't give a damn about an iPhone.

In a parallel universe there is a conversation on the In-N-Out Burger website where a member is stating, "It looks like a nifty burger, but I won't be jumping ship from McDonalds for it. And, I still don't give a damn about the Double Double."

So the Amazon Fire phone is exclusive to AT&T and I think exclusive to the US. No doubt they'll shout outstanding sales figures in a month or two. Not sure how relevant they'll be though with such a relatively small market.

When Apple announces the first iPad mini and put the price up on the screen the stock took a nose dive. Same thing with the iPhone 5c. Amazon stock is up 3% today even though the phone isn't that cheap, no revolutionary/unique data pricing and locked to AT&T. I don't get it. Plus it seems there are very few features that are hardware specific. Even aspects of the Firefly feature already exist on the Amazon iOS app. What is the point of Amazon doing its own hardware when it's goal of getting more people to buy stuff from amazon.com can be accomplished via software?

The amazon "success" is a myth. They dont make any profit. All they do is grow. But you can grow that much to a certain extent and then you'll have to actually make money to reinvest in future growth. I hope Amazon dive because they're even worse of a tyrant than Apple could ever be allegedly.

Same thing has been said about Apple and iphone since 2012. Get original.

Nobody wants the entry level iPhone to only have 16GB anymore!

32GB minimum unless it's a low end phone.

Sorry to burst your bubble but the 16gb iphone 5s is still the most popular model sold worldwide. But I wish they would make the 32gb entry model as well. :D

High end android phones such as the One Plus One cost half the price and is unlocked. Android oem's will win. Just not the current ones. Don't be surprised if you see $200 Android flagships next year. Apple has no answer for this.

Glad to see another contender entering the ring but seriously, a lot of the Fire Phone's features are for the lazy.

It's already been said, done and shown, Apple consumers don't want a "cheap alternative" even if it's made by APPLE. Definitely surprised to see the iPhone 5C tank like it's been doing.

oh right... this Amazon Fire phone...

Looks like its on Fire...

Waste of 4 perfectly good cameras.... if 3D is dead in the home, what makes them think it will try and make a come back on mobile ?

The cameras can't do other stuff?

Kinda niffy models and all in 3D, but you don't need cameras...

Just look at Maps on iPhone, switch to the 3D mode..

Same effect, only this is with cameras...

I'm sure everyone would want to see how many objects that can have on the Amazon phone in 3D

I am really content with my Nexus 5 phone, I love apple and all but I would never get an iPhone. I love android too much. Oh and I hate amazon so much that I sold all my kindles.

I feel the same but this phone is great if you're tied in the Amazon ecosystem. People don't care about playing the guitar or losing weight with the iPhone. People don't care about having a Android phone thats highly customizable. Amazon has a target market. It's just not me.

I think this will likely flop.

AT&T exclusive? Fail. This automatically eliminates the numerous people who use other carriers or MVNOs.

Price of $200 contract or $650 retail? Fail. The hardware is good, but not spectacular. Why choose this over Apple or Samsung? This should be priced lower in order to entice people to join and use the Amazon ecosystem. It's terrible value compared to the Nexus 5.

No Google Play store? Fail. What's the point of an Android phone if I can't even use the Android App Store?!?

I'm not impressed. This should have been at most $349 retail unlocked for use with any carrier.

If the end goal is to get people to buy stuff from Amazon and use Amazon streaming services, the hardware should be much more price competitive.

It's a nice feature whatever phone it's on... BUT is it just a gimmick other than on maps.

It uses 4 cameras on the front! Car-a-zy!

It's very very heavy as Smart phones go. 160grams.

"An image that changed with your perspective for a 3D illusion" was brought to us in the form of the iOS7 home screen. Most people don't like it, and some actually get sick from it. Apple later provided an update that allowed people to disable it.

So (1), something similar did come from Apple, and (2) people don't care about it at all, much less think it is magical and revolutionary.

You are welcome to your opinions, of course.

It would be wasted on Apple Maps because they are so inaccurate, unless you are living in the States.

You're completely wrong. Everyone wanted a cheap iPhone last year which was suppose to be the iPhone C. The iPhone C tanked because it was expensive. Apple is just plain greedy. I knew after the price was announced it would suck. Price the iPhone C today for $200 and it would sale like hotcakes even with those fruity colors. The new unlocked Motorola G LTE is only $218 with no contract and is just as powerful with similar build quality.

I'm honestly not impressed by any of the Amazon hardware.
They all have a kind of me too feel to them.

I think of amazon as an everything retailer and not really as a hardware or software company.
As such, I can't help but think that these products are second thoughts to their core business of selling everything online.

Nope, don't think it looks like an iPhone:

Looks more like the Kindle Fire 1:

Just don't want a phone that encourages me to buy things. I'm in the business of saving money and even though Amazon preaches saving, this phone will entice me to spend more anyway.

Wait! Apple has the most expensive computers, tablets and phones on the planet yet people buy discounted toilet paper from Amazon. Last time I checked you always need toilet paper and soap. Plenty of people buy that type of stuff on amazon. And it's cheaper than these super warehouses. That phone would make it super easy. Even the ads that pop up on their tablets has some good deals. 256gig SDD for like $75 a few days ago.

The basic specs for Fire Phone seem comparable to iPhone but as a far as phone hardware goes I guess time and user experience will tell how good it actually is. Battery life is one of the big questions.
For me the big draw card to this phone is its AR technology, Fire Fly, however it is easy enough for Apple to incorporate this tech into their phone too. I mean it shouldnt need any specific hardware. I would love to see an AR application for iPhone ... or do they already exist?
I can't see any real pratical application for having a 3D interface. It looks cool but its more of a gimmick.
Tilting the phone to scroll is also something Apple could incorporate in the future.
As other people have said, there's nothing overly new tech wise that would sway me to buy the phone. Besides, I love how the Apple ecosystem is evolving, especially with Continuity using iOS 8 and Yosemite across all my devices. You won't get that with Fire Phone. :D

No doubt at some point people will start shortening the name to FiPhone. :p
Is Fire Phone on fire (a hot product) or will it be a case of Fe Fi Ho Hum or even Fe Fi(re) Pho(ne) Hum? :p
If it fails to sell, will there be a Fire sale? :p

Seems very gimmicky. The big headline feature is angling the phone to get different views of things? Hmm... just an exaggerated version of the parallax effect iOS already does (and which many people dislike, I might add.)

The only new thing here is the tilt-to-scroll feature, but I'm thinking as good as that looks in the demo, it's going to be a pain because you have to keep the phone at the same angle you opened something at or it's going to scroll around on you. I doubt it's going to be as useful in practice as it seems in the demo.

I guess this is targeting more of the bottom tier market?
I have no idea why anyone interested in an iPhone would go with this.

I actually looked at this back in March. Amazon consistently had the highest prices for household supplies. Here are some examples, all per unit item, ft^2, oz, whatever made sense for making comparisons:

Cascade ActionPacs: Sams = .1303, Amazon = .3181
Bounty Select-A-Size: Sams = .0243, Amazon = .0342
Glad ForceFlex Kitchen Garbage Bags: Sams = .1315, Amazon = .1907

These are all Prime prices.
