I don't understand which market are they trying to penetrate or what's their customers target really is, looks like a confused product with no direction or a personality, it's also ugly looking.

TBH they had me until the price.

Were this phone 199-349 unlocked and off contract or Free to $50 on contract, I would have put my money down and preordered one. They are/should be selling this phone as a gateway into Amazon services. Because of that, not only should it be subsidized by At&t, but it should be by Amazon as well. This device for all purposes is locked into Amazon and even Google Play isn't accessible without a sideloaded apk or possibly even a need to root the device.

I don't mind them making hardware, but why not just use Android like Samsung, and couple the phones with Amazon apps... I would never use Amazon OS.

Oh, just to confirm that you're not part of the target audience for my replies.

Not my problem you don't get the Vertu phone and it's market.

I don't mind them making hardware, but why not just use Android like Samsung, and couple the phones with Amazon apps... I would never use Amazon OS.

Because that's not the Amazon style, Apple do so why can't Amazon? It offers all digital services and wants you to use those services which to be fair are pretty good, so it heavily integrates them. So it wants to present it's own brand and style and the Samsung version of Android doesn't do that really.

It's a very unattractive phone... Nothing about the look of the phone makes me think 'I gotta have one'.

Nice hardware hobbled with very conventional and disappointing pricing and wireless vendor lock-in. The off-contract locked-to-AT&T price is completely absurd and insulting. Very unlike amazon. This is not a market disruptor at all, just a follower at best.

Some nice features. And some very, very superfluous features.

I really wish Amazon had just lightly customised stock android, and not tried to make their own store. Bundle your phones with all your own apps sure, but don't heavily customise every ounce of the OS!

I imagine Amazon would have fared a lot better had they done a Motorola and released the equivalent Moto E, G and X. Cheap but decent, well made smartphones for the masses. Then they could have spent more time making their individual apps much better. And they would have sold like hot cakes!

Also....the name scheme annoys me.

Kindle
Kindle Fire
Fire TV
Fire Phone

How about:
Kindle Reader
Kindle Tablet
Kindle TV
Kindle Phone

Or, keep Kindle just as the reader and call everything else the Fire..Fire tab, Fire TV and Fire Phone.

Bah.

And holy freakin cameras batman. That's 5 cameras staring at you, 6 in total on the phone. And people were worried about the Kinect in a room. They have millions of faces on record!

Also....the name scheme annoys me.

Same here. I absolutely love my Paperwhite Kindle and I'm worried that they'll cease production of e-ink screens one day as LCD panels get cheaper. Both words by themselves are great too: Kindle & Paperwhite. But Fire? Nah. "to kindle a fire", it just does nothing for me.

I really hope that MR cut and pasted the text from someone else, because if not its awful. I got into the first few paragraphs and the ...."and more" at the end of every sentence was really wearing thin.

by reading comments on this device,
I came to think that the only phone which will truly revolutionize and shine,
will be the next phone that take us back to counting battery life by "days".

Not fancy looks,
not fancy specs,
not fancy ways to touch,
etc.

Adding you own features to someone else's design doesn't make the theft ok.
So, by that logic, Apple stole the design of their headphones because they added a shape to what all previous earbuds already had.

The earplugs are similarly shaped- but, upon closer examination, not all that similar. The rest of the headphones have more in common with those of other manufacturers than they do to Apple's design... the connection of the two buds reminds me of these, for example.

Of course here comes the flood of comments saying how this feature is dumb and the phone sucks..... Of course if apple implements some of these features they will be awesome and revolutionary.

This.

It looks like a nifty phone, but I won't likely be jumping ship from Samsung for it. And I still don't give a damn about an iPhone.

The phone is a complete rip off of the current iPod touch and up and coming iphone 6.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2661630/The-holophone-Amazon-reveals-revolutionary-3D-handset-Apple-Google.html

Even the above press conference with the camera on show looks a rip off from Apple.

Amazon may dominate the ereader market but everything else they do is aimed to be budget and copying Apple.

I wait the Amazon Fire watch next ...

Nobody wants the entry level iPhone to only have 16GB anymore!

32GB minimum unless it's a low end phone.

-Kevin

So you would rather everyone have less choice and more expensive options just because you and some others wouldnt buy the 16GB? couldnt that be applied to every size then (I personally wouldnt buy less than 64GB)? Its not like removing the 16GB model will necessarily make the 32GB cheaper... When this has happened in the past it is because the 32GB NAND chip prices went down to what apple paid for the 16GB chips in the previous model, so they can increase storage space for no extra cost. Sometimes this means the 16GB chips are just not really made by manufacturers anymore, sometimes it means the 16GB chips are now even cheaper! so if Apple kept a 16GB model in this instances it could be even cheaper entry level! and still have 32GB at last years 16GB price! But just removing the option of a 16GB phone just because no one wants such a model will not change anything for the consumer other than one less option...

On a final note... i think you are in the minority here... plenty of people dont even need 8GB on their phone... why pay more for 32GB when you wont use it? (other than no 8GB or 16GB model available)

Samsung should be a little worried...

Apple should be even more. Samsung will just release a better S5 prime with 32gigs and make it $100 on contract. 2 months later the phone will be free on contract. What's Apple going to do; give the iPhone 5s 8gigs of memory and knock off $50?
