my first games were on a ][ as well. but im seeing a new complaint pattern: "I've owned every single Apple product since the II, but APPLE IS DOOOMED!!!!" (because of missing feature/spec XXX). if these life-long fans had all those products then theyd understand by now apple doesnt play the specs-alone game. UX and TCO and total value is a big part of what their products have always represented over the decades.

seriously.

OMG, I hate hearing this crap. Apple is doomed because the iPhone doesn't 2345234 gigs of RAM and all that other crap. Give me a break, people.

Nobody wants the entry level iPhone to only have 16GB anymore!

32GB minimum unless it's a low end phone.

-Kevin

Funny I sell phones for a living and I get customers all the time who want 16gb and would never use anything bigger. But For most people yes 32 is prefect.

Good for Amazon. If for some reason I ever leave Apple, I now have another option. I hope they cut into the NSA's (er I mean Google's)..profits.

You know that the Kindle Fire's os is a very heavily modified version of Android?

Of course here comes the flood of comments saying how this feature is dumb and the phone sucks..... Of course if apple implements some of these features they will be awesome and revolutionary.

For the guy saying it looks familiar.....

Who pissed in your Cheerios this morning? A little sensitive, eh?

Normally I would read through these comments here about a non Apple phone release and laugh quietly at some of the hyper critical, biased, hypocritical criticisms. But I have admit most of the criticism is spot on today. The major one being price point. $199 - $649? Had the prices been exactly half of that I think it would've been a hit. But why go for a Fire Phone when you could buy an iPhone or Galaxy for roughly the same price? I suspect that in a few months the prices will be $59 - $249 for the same phones.

Nice phone that, good specs, that screen seems, erm, interesting? One to try I think to get what it's about, shame it's only on sale in the US though. And SEE THAT APPLE!!! 32GB MINIMUM!!

Will also be interesting to see what the camera's like.

Oi Vei. Yet another phone that looks physically like the iPhone, has the same equivalent stuff and gimmicks... Its another vessel of malware...

Why is it so difficult for the industry to step back and design something that was revolutionary like the iPhone 1 was at the time it came out that it made EVERYONE in the industry go back to the drawing board.

Why can't [insert your favorite tech company here] pull that off again. Why are we stuck in gimmicks and look-a-likes and clones... and not come up with a truly revolutionary device.

All that money and all these companies do is copy, copy and copy.

And then the nerd-rage, just bend over and applaud them.

Call me when something revolutionary happens... otherwise its more Meh.

WHY?
Have you heard about "cloud" computing???? Why would I need a 64 GB phone when I can have a 100GB cloud service? Every user is different, and I listen to raw audio, so I HAVE to go to the cloud in order to get what I want. If your an MP3 fan, 16 GB's can supply MORE than you can listen to on a commute.

As long as my data plan runs out after a few gigs, the argument that's it's all in the cloud makes no sense for my mobile device. While there is some free wifi out there it's not enough.

100 Gb cloud is semi useless with the data plans and charges we are saddled with these days.

I don't even know how to response to this properly. No. Just no. That's not how sane folks operate (should or otherwise). Nevermind the ISP implications of that mindset, but to think that one should spend their money that way is unfathomable.

erm... really???? Me thinks the new Vertu $22,000 Android phone says different....

Yeah I'm MORE than sure the person who spends over 22 grand on one phone doesn't care about $100 extra. and yes he is right, when people are worth or earn over a certain amount an extra $100 or $200 really doesn't register with them.

The difference being that paying $22000 for that phone is moreso for the novelty of owning it - allowing yourself to be ripped off by network carriers through paying for substandard services is another thing.

Amazon will push the crap out of it on their website. Anyone anti AT&T will pass (why no choice?). And for now they include amazon prime membership. The phone seems okay, there are some cool features but seems like it is trying to pander to the ultra simplistic crowd. Hell No (!!), i'm not going to let some customer service rep access my life. Combine that feature with security nightmare Android and look out. there's two ways in - rogue employees and android. Yikes! Might appeal to the readers digest and us weekly readers though.

Some of these features i would absolutely want to be able to turned off easily. The 3d thing is annoying, on games it could be cool though. The dynamic scrolling would work well on subway (or driving...ugh!) but i would want it off when i don't want to play a game of "ball in the hole". Some of the other features are just OK - song identification (hello soundhound), well the list goes on but for the price, it will be a niche market and Amazon is going to lose money and waste time on this. Maybe they'll get some HTC and samsung users, or some Apple users who don't use apps (yes, there are some) but overall it is not that compelling at all.

Damn ! They look pretty similar
:D

I'm more impressed by it than I was the Galaxy S5/iPhone 5S/HTC One reveals. The features Amazon lists may or may not be features everyone is looking for but at least they show promise.

Hmm, I wonder how cases will work with the cameras on this phone. Might be a bit tough with all the infrared light being used to track head movement.

Just don't want a phone that encourages me to buy things. I'm in the business of saving money and even though Amazon preaches saving, this phone will entice me to spend more anyway.

Well if they want everyone to have this phone, it should have been free on contract on all carriers, and sold at cost around $250 off contract.

Couldnt agree more. Nexus 5 is at $350. So is Moto X and the elusive One+1. There is no way this will sell when you have unlocked stock android phones for half the cost.

Firefly looks really cool. Not sure there's enough here though to sway users from the iPhone or even other high end Android devices. Looking forward to reading the reviews.
