Don't be silly. It's not just for music. RAM is also for apps. With everything else on there (photos not included as Amazon is giving away free storage for that for Kindle Phones), how many apps do you think can fit in 16 GB? Good luck running apps from your cloud storage lockers.

I think your confusing RAM and Storage Space!

More serious competition = good.

I don't want Apple to be lazy and release new hardware where the only "innovation" is halved storage space or processor speed. :)

WHY?
Have you heard about "cloud" computing???? Why would I need a 64 GB phone when I can have a 100GB cloud service? Every user is different, and I listen to raw audio, so I HAVE to go to the cloud in order to get what I want. If your an MP3 fan, 16 GB's can supply MORE than you can listen to on a commute.

Unless you want to use your media when you have no reception, or if you are worried about going over your data allotment. Both very valid concerns with today's reception and pricing.

I never understood this argument, it's missing some glaring difficulties with cloud computing. Reception and the price of data.

On topic, the phone looks kinda neat. I think it's a fatal mistake to price it so high, but that's just me. The 3d seems neat, but may just be a gimmick. Does the 3d go inwards with depth, or does it actually look like something is physically popping out of the phone? If it's the former then I'll give it a big fat meh, if it's the latter then I'm intrigued.

There's just nothing compelling enough here to get me to fork out $650+ (or, sorta kinda, $540+ since there's a year of Prime thrown in and $10 in Amazon coins... woo hoo).

Given that this phone is essentially made to increase sales for Amazon's products, you'd think they'd subsidize the price to Nexus-like levels. And given that they'd want a lot of people to buy it, you'd think they wouldn't lock into AT&T.

Had the phone been $499 at 64GB and unlocked, I'd have one on preorder now. As it stands, I'll likely never see one.

I really do like the camera tracking. And Firefly. But... not enough to be locked into AT&T. For less, and without that lock? It might have been a second phone.

Underwhelmed..

Didn't expect anything great, so not disappointed as to phone itself. Pricing is a whole different story. I don't know what they were thinking to price it at $199 on contract. Moto X/MotoG look like much better alternatives.

I thought that Amazon would revolutionize in terms of plan structure. Maybe offer different slabs of data - 1GB($20), 3GB($30) etc. where data is all you need. Phone(VOIP) and texting is driven by your data. Now, that is where Amazon could have differentiated themselves.

Wow yeh as if Amazon made headphones that fit in your ear like Apple did. Them copycats! Oh yeh and that case, wow yeh they may be completely different colours but see how the case has a hole for the camera, just like Apples, blatant copy!

/Sarcasm out.

It has to be the former, since the screen itself has no 3D capability. It's just changing the perspective based on your viewing angle and distance.

Eh...

I don't think that. I think it's more of a feature like Samsung tends to put out. Is it cool, yeah, but not even close to necessary. Maybe helpful in something like Maps, but on the lockscreen and other places it's not needed and will likely just lead to killing more battery life.

Its got everything to do with that - if Dynamic Perspective was on the iPhone 6 you'd be seeing more positive reaction.

Yes, it will drain battery life….

I'm trying to keep my bias out of this, but I don't think it's going to do well.

Me either.

But the majority of people who visit tech blogs and message boards are not the targets for this. Your parents and grandparents are.

The only real problem I have is all those front cameras. Android doesn't sandbox stuff like iOS does, and those front cameras are pretty scary since they work in the dark and are invisible.

Agreed. The 3D feature looks nice, but given that they tied themselves to an AT&T exclusive, I thought that they would be more aggressive on the pricing. Granted, it includes a year of Amazon Prime, but that's a typical "give away the blade, charge for the razor" strategy that doesn't really cost Amazon that much.

If this were a $450 phone unlocked, I might have picked one up. But at $650 I'll just wait for the iPhone 6.

$299 for 32GB and $349 for 64GB off contract could have shaken up the entire market.

If it will make you want to spend more money at Amazon, then it should have been subsidized.

I was really hoping that Amazon would have a winner.:(

Nice phone from Amazon.. But it worries me that they are not being completely honest about the battery life.. No way a phone with that many unnecessary hardware(7/8cameras/3D/firefly) features would last for more than 3/4 hours on a full charge... It just not possible and by the way this phone must weight a ton.. I will wait and see before i buy it...

I'm waiting until it actually gets into people's hands and used in the real world before I'll make a judgement ... I can see some positives, but you are right ... there are also a lot of questions, too. Actually, it makes me think I might be more interested in a Kindle tablet if they add some of these features and they actually work well.

Including a free year of Amazon Prime is a $99 value if you were already into the Prime thing. I'll give Amazon credit for some of the "Dynamic Perspective" features. Maybe they'll just give good demo and not be that useful, but it certainly is innovative.

As others have said, this is more Android vs Android competition. The majority of iPhone owners will buy the new iPhone no matter what because it's the iPhone.

Hey wait - does this mean with ATT we will get activation/sales numbers for an Amazon product?!?!?! That could be interesting.....

Not necessarily. They have stopped giving activation statistics for the iPhone and Samsung phones now.

Why the sarcasm? The Amazon earphones also have a magnetic coupler and flat tangle-free cords, just like Apple's.

Oh, wait.

Let's see...

I have a choice between an iPhone, S5 and Amazon Fire!
Amazon does not stand a chance!!! I thought their pricing might give them the edge!!! Think again!

Amazon totally missed the mark here! Nothing I haven't seen or heard before!

Apple has always been the essence of a company that does few things and does them really well. Amazon making phones and tablets? - it doesn't make any sense. They're an online shop for everything, and the only hardware that ever made sense for them to make was the kindle due to their great ebook catalog. I don't know what they're doing in this market now, and quite frankly they should just be focusing on what amazon is truly about: ecommerce, not this crap. :)

Are you serious? Amazon has a whole line of technology related accessories they make. That issue aside, this phone makes perfect sense for Amazon. They enter a market that expands yearly, and have developed a phone that has some minor "cool" factors to it and above everything else will increase sales on their site. You may be shocked to know how many people will search things on Amazon or some other site before buying them in a store. In fact, I just did it earlier today and saved like $8 on a movie by using Amazon instead of Target. Amazon just made all these new customers an extremely easy way to buy products through them, not to mention the Amazon prime members they will gain.

"Exclusive to AT&T"

I suppose Amazon didn't learn from the Facebook phone. This is destined for failure. Why place yourself outside of over 60% of the market?
