Looks like it was a good idea for me not to visit this thread over the weekend! I did not cancel my MBP ordered on 1/22, and it is now "shipping soon." I just called my CC, and Amazon has in fact charged my card for the full amount. Hopefully I'll get it tomorrow.

It just never made sense to me that canceling an early pre-order was a smart move. I wonder if the suggestion was an attempt to clear out a few pre-orders to get people in the back of the line a little bump. It reminds me of the day the Xbox 360 came out and customers were messing with other customers' minds while waiting in line. That's why I pre-order everything and never give up my spot.

That's great that they're on the move and you will be receiving your MBP. Sometimes hanging on to your pre-order works out as it should, other times it just sits there while all the new orders ship out ahead. I've had it work both ways for me, but more often than not, it's quicker to just re-order if the item becomes available-at least this has been my experience with Amazon.

Yeah I kinda regret it, but atleast it still shows that it's shipping today. I wonder what your status would have been on Saturday if you did infact see this thread then. Some people who preordered had that status on Saturday, but I didn't yet.

I called Amazon around an hour ago and the CSR said he can't give me an update on the status because their systems were being upgraded and to call back in two hours, so around 2pm CST. So I'm sure this effects their whole system and for all I know it's already been prepped for shipping. My credit card is my debit card and isn't the fastest to show CC transactions online, so I can't use that as a guage for if it shipped or not.

Yes you should have checked the thread! Ordered on 2/25 (Sat around 10pm). Received notice: Shipped 2/27 (with tracking number). Scheduled delivery on 3/1 (Free 2-Day delivery with Amazon Prime)

Woo hoo!

Congrats! Are you east coast or west coast?

"I don't see any reason why you would get this item, we don't have any in stock."

"I don't see why this would ship today. You will not get your order tomorrow."

"We don't have this item in inventory."

Needless to say it appears that this Amazon CSR is claiming that all people who are getting shipments are liars, they told me they wont do more for me without more "proof" that other customers are receiving shipment notifications. That I wont receive my MBP until April.

UPDATE 1:
Supervisor: "I have checked ALL orders on Amazon.com that we could not have shipped this item from Amazon.com"

UPDATE 2:
Well he put me on hold after swearing up and down that they didn't ship any, and my very nicely saying that what he is telling me is obviously not true. He came back to tell me he had found out that they did infact get some and the website was not updated to say that they had them and were shipping first come first served. He was going to put in a request to get my order pushed through for my problems and also gave me 5% off the price for my troubles.

Too bad he entered the new amount wrong and my laptop shows a cost of: 2,326,664.00

Where do they find these people?! That is such BS! And what did they say when in light of the fact that your order clearly states shipping today? Does Amazon have nothing to do with that as well? Give me a break!

Yeah look at my update... hillarity ensues.

The price got fixed without me having to call back, thank goodness! It's now at $2,326.66

Hang in there...just because they are evidently behind on their orders, and you apparantly got hold of an idiot on the phone (supervisor or not), doesn't mean that they won't still ship out this week...albeit late.

Amazon is known for way over-estimating shipment dates. The CSR that I talked to this morning was just the opposite...he acknowledged that they probably did get in a shipment and they were probably just bombarded with orders and it sold out as fast as it came in which is why it was never changed on the MBP web page itself.

From what I've found looking around on line, several major retailers are supposed to get their shipments of MBP's by mid week-I find it hard to believe that Amazon would not be as important as MacMall, CompUSA, or MacConnection. They are a huge Apple reseller. What that CRS said to you just doesn't wash.

That's crazy! Congrats on the discount though, that's a nice perk.

Latest update: still "Shipping soon" but now showing a delivery estimate of tomorrow. Before it just said "unavailable."

Okay, back to work!

McCarron,

Did Amazon offer you the discount or did you ask them for it? At least they're comping you some for your frustrations!

I did not ask, it was just said he'd give it to me. It was a supervisor, probably only person that could do it.

I ordered on 2/26 (1.83 model) and shows an estimated ship date of 4/28. What do you think are the chances of it actually shipping before then? I'd order through apple but the combination of amazon.com rebate and no tax really makes the deal...

PieMac,

I just got home from work. The Apple Store locally called me and said they had a 1.83 saved for me did I want it. I went and checked my Amazon and it still said "shipping soon" as of 5PM so I went and got the 1.83. I have it set up next to me now. Unfortunately it has a dead pixel..which drives me crazy. Now I have to see what the heck is going on with Amazon. They charged my card and said it shipped Sat. but no tracking number and no update

teerexx52,

That really stinks...but I think Amazon will probably come through because they have charged your card, therefore they are legally bound to deliver the product. I believe that you have 14 days to return the 1.83 so I would think that would plenty of time for you to receive your 2.0 from Amazon. If the dead pixel is driving you nuts, then you might want to just go ahead and return it. I know how it is to play computer roulette-my last Powerbook I had to return three times before I got one without issues. Good luck!

And...still no joy...still in "not yet shipped" land. :(

I have some more information. I called Amazon. The reason that there are no tracking numbers is that UPS did not show to there warehouse in Lexington, Kentucky to pick them up. She guaranteed me that a computer was there for me as my card was charged. She says......that none will ship now until tomorrow and.....no tracking number until then so nothing expected tonight. I asked several times about this so.....do we believe them or not. Have to wait until tomorrow now just to get tracking number. They said delivery Wed. Oh boy!!! Now what to do with the one I'm typing on. The bad pixel is off to the right but I am a crazy about dead pixels. My eyes follow them where ever they are.. Other wise it seems fine. I was lucky to get one as they only got 5 and I was second on the list. I was hoping all the way home no dead pixels:(

PieMac..will I have to pay 10% restocking or is it a defect?

If it's just one pixel, they will usually consider that within the normal range, so I would bet there will probably be a 10% restocking fee :(
BUT...I would call the store and ask first...you never know. That's one thing I really appreciate about Amazon...they will allow a return over a dead pixel. I had two cinema displays that I bought from Amazon and they took them both back-no questions or restocking fees.

Let's hope that's been the problem all along with our orders from Amazon-would make sense. Funny to me how some CSR's don't know anything and others can seemingly find out all kinds of info.

Either way, I will feel better if I can just move up to the next shipping phase.

In the last half hour or so mine is now: "shipping soon" and still shows the 28th as the date it'll be delivered. Horray!

If it gets delayed a day, that's not so good but I can deal. I wasn't going to go home on Wednesday, but I will now if it doesn't come tomorrow.

Congrats on getting one! That is cool.

My order status has changed to shipped, to be delivered tomorrow, with a tracking number . . . that doesn't work. So maybe it shipped today after all? We'll see.

to recap, I ordered on 1/22, with overnight shipping, of a stock 2.0, to San Francisco.

Three options:

Return the applestore one and fight the restock fee on the basis that it's a defect. Ask for a replacement, and most likely they won't have one on hand..so just ask for a refund.

If they charge a restock still, sell it on ebay or craigslist for the amt. you bought it for.

Refuse shipment of the amazon.com and it'll go back to them. They'll refund it minus shipping.

Wow...I'm really am truly glad for everyone-I think I'm the only one left that hasn't moved beyond open order stage. :(

But, I now have two orders in...the one that I placed on early Sunday am with a delivery date of tomorrow (HA!) and, for one fleeting moment today, there was one available to be shipped tomorrow, delivered on Weds, March 1st. I was just clicking through the shopping cart to see what the next available delivery date was (which was April 28th as of this am) and low and behold, there it was: ship 2/28, deliver by 3/1! So, I jumped on it-why not? Nothing else is moving.
So, now I have two orders in...I really hope one of them pulls through. I am really exasperated with this farce.
