Most people just need a portable tablet to surf the web, and Kindle does that. I love my mac products, but to the average consumer, it's a complete waste of money.
Try surfing at the beach or in a place with no WiFi....

why do you think the guy stopped to talk to her. i've been using the "hey is that the new kindle" line for 3 years!
So as an example, are you willing to buy the same apps for two different devices...? That would be a real waste of money.
Family oriented??? Hah! Put an iPad and a Fire at home, and watch the children fight to use the iPad.
The Fire is like a bronze medal, which is given to the second looser in a contest.
The point is that the Kindle is cheaper, right...Again - you missed the point entirely. But it's ok. You're not alone...
It's a great ad, and also illustrates why Amazon is doing so well. Great products, and not over-priced like Apple.
Amazon.com Inc warned of a possible operating loss in the first quarter following a sharp drop in fourth-quarter profit,
why are you all so biased toward sapple products?

I can buy 3 skateboards for less than the price of a car. That skateboard MUST be the best way to travel. Redonkulous!
Ummm, have you looked at the name of the website you are posting it on? Macrumors.com. There may be some bias here.
+1
Let's not be snobs about this. No, the Fire isn't an IPad replacement or an IPad killer but it's a nice little tablet that people can afford and that will work for their needs.
Yeah, and I could buy like 3 Kia Rios for the price of a single Range Rover. That totally makes the Kia Rio a superior car, right you guys?
Right. However what people are advocating is that just because something is cheaper, it doesn't necessarily match the quality of the more expensive product.Ok - for people like you who think this way. Try this one on.
I have a choice. Either buying a Kindle fire and being able to surf, watch movies, read books, etc and it's $199 or I don't get anything because I can't afford or want to spend $499+ for an iPad.
This whole skateboard/car comparison is stupid because for plenty of people and families it might not be an either/or it might be something or nothing.
Again - you missed the point entirely. But it's ok. You're not alone...

Oh dear. This week we have seen Samsung try and sell the idea that a stylus is a selling point and now here we are to believe that buying three inferior products for less than the price of an iPad is something to shout about. I can buy 3 skateboards for less than the price of a car. That skateboard MUST be the best way to travel. Redonkulous!
I didn't miss the point; it is the same as always:
- Some people drive KIAs, others drive Lexus.
- Some buy a car to go from Point-A to Point-B, others to enjoy going from Point-A to Point-B.
To each its own, but comparing the Kindle to an iPad is like comparing a burger from Burger King to a burger made by a professional chef.

A lot of people seem to miss the point of the ad. Its aimed at families. Why have everyone fight over one iPad, when everyone can get a device they can use for the cost of one iPad?
I like traveling light. I could not imagine having to go through the TSA checkpoint with a laptop plus 3 Kindles. I will stay with the iPad ( wait - I don't have one yet for personal use). Will be getting my first iPad for personal use with iPad 3. Sorry Android - but I prefer the stable and more elegant solution.![]()
There is (at least) one glaring problem with the Fire's business model (ie. sell a tablet cheaply, at or below cost, hoping to make it up on digital content sales): Sales of digital content aren't very profitable. If Apple sells its movies, TV shows, music, and books basically at a "break-even" price in order to drive sales of its (profitable) tablets, phones, and music players, how is Amazon supposed to ever make huge profits doing the same thing?
