While many in here may applaud this, there is Cook's darker play in here, whereby Apple is locking up the MSRP with no room for "unauthorized" discounts.

Those mythical "Authorized Apple Resellers in/by Amazon" will now face a two-sided whammy: from Apple underneath, and from Amazon from above. And, left with no margin to profit.

Why even bother, then?

Most Apple products have always been available for sale on Amazon, and many still won't be for sale on Amazon after this.

The change is you would be buying the products from Apple or an authorized reseller, rather than from some no name Miami-based warehouse that may or may not be selling stolen products. It will also eliminate a lot of the price gouging that goes on.

Right, that's clearly indicated in the article (I didn't say otherwise), but this is a bit of a change between Amazon and Apple - which historically has been a touch of a back and forth with regards to competing market space - and kind of signifies a re-evaluation of their business relationship. The latter I'd say got a little positive momentum from Prime on ATV (where there was/is a conflicting hardware offering).

That's good because trying to order an iPhone on Apple's website always crashes Safari (or any browser) on my phone. I can't order one from my iPhone (but I can order a Mac). Way to go apple.

Get the Apple Store App. No crashes.

Some people might want the Amazon points.

I can now go to Krogers and get an Amazon gift card. Load it into my Amazon account and buy computer and such with my online credit. PLUS I CAN NOW GET KROGER GAS POINTS AND KROGER BUCKS. Win/Win!!!

This is a good thing. Amazon is quite aggressive with discounts in my experience.

Take the good with the bad. There are unquestionably shady re-sellers of not only Apple products but other wares on Amazon. In theory this will get rid of them at least as far as Apple is concerned, that's a good thing. You raise a good point on locking up MSRP though so that's a bit of a loss for consumers. There could be ways around this though, depending on how the agreement has been made, such as Amazon offering a % or certain $ amount off of purchases in general, not specifically tied to Apple products.

I guess we'll see, right?

Unless they are (decently) cheaper, which I doubt they will be, I'd sooner buy direct from Apple.

Generally I agree but there have been a couple instances where I've got an Amazon gift card from a holiday or something that I wanted to use towards an Apple product and couldn't.

Interesting I just ran into this....this morning Amazon banned 3rd party sellers from selling ALL Apple products from their platform starting January 4th. That means if you have the old iPad 2 or some old keyboard from almost 10 years ago you can no longer resell it on Amazon unless your a certified Apple reseller.

Dear Seller,

Amazon is constantly working to enhance the customer experience, and one of the ways we do this is by increasing selection of the products we know customers want. As part of a new agreement with Apple, we are working with a select group of authorized resellers to offer an expanded selection of Apple and Beats products, including new releases, in Amazon’s stores.

You are receiving this message because you are currently selling, or have previously sold, Apple or Beats products. Your existing offers for those products will soon be removed from Amazon’s online store in the United States. Please contact Apple if you would like to apply to become an authorized reseller on Amazon.

To prepare for this change, you may continue selling these products on Amazon through the holiday season until January 4, 2019. If you have any remaining inventory of these products in Amazon fulfillment centers on January 5, 2019, you will need to create a removal order. Amazon will reimburse you for the return or disposal fees through February 4, 2019. Please also note you will not be able to send shipments of these products to Amazon fulfillment centers effective December 1, 2018.

Thank you for selling on Amazon,
Amazon Services

I'd like to see that.

Most Apple thingies are already sold on Amazon. People read the article.

Okay, I saw that, but apparently you didn't see nor interpret what I said, which here is a hint, it was in the past tense, as in two years ago. What I said:

A couple of years ago I bought my MBP 15" Retina on Amazon. I got it for $100 less than Apple, and delivered more quickly too for free. I assumed Amazon already sold most of the newer Apple thingies, but I guess they didn't. I'm glad Amazon will now be selling more of Apple products.

' your amazon package has been left with a neighbour' yes because that what I want order a £1500 phone.

I'd rather buy from store or Apple online with courier delivery.

True. 5% back on a $1400 iPhone would be nice!

Yes I forgot about that. When I bought my MBP from Amazon for $1,869.99 with my Amazon card so I got $93.50 credit the following month from Chase bank card. So I bought it for $100 less than Apple wanted, plus I got another $93.50 in credit to spend on anything in the future, which I did of course.
